Loofer
I've got a MK1 focus 1.6 (03) which is suffering the dreaded dashboard corrosion from condensation. I took it out last winter and cleaned the corrosion, dabbed it with silicone and it came back to life but it's gone again this year. I took it out to have a look and there's no additional visible corrosion on it so I assume one of the components have failed, tried heating/drying and replacing but it's dead and will have to be replaced. I'm getting a dash from a scrapper but as my mileage was pretty low at 90k I'd like to carry the mileage over to the new dash if I can. Are there any chips on the board that can be removed and replaced on the new one or are they coded to only work on the original? is there any way to carry over the mileage? I know in the Elmconfig sofrware you can change mileage but i'm not sure if it is compatible with your car. Could you just get yours repaired at one of the specialist repair centers? Loofer
I wasn't aware there were dashboard repair centres? can you give me any names to check them out?
Micro
There are various threads on this forum, a quick google reveals this company (http://www.clusterrepairsuk.co.uk/) and as mentioned here. I've never used them, but Stoney (who mentions it in this thread: Is a very well respected chap!
Loofer
That's great, I'll look into then, thanks Micro.
Loofer
I had a chat with those guys and they say that you can't even put a dashboard in from a scrapper because it needs to be coded to the car to work at all. Is that correct? I've read of other makes of car getting instruments swapped out for 2nd hand parts. Quote to rebuild my dash was £170 all in...... for a 13 year old car, not too keen on that route. Micro
There are other companies just Google Cluster repair.I'm not sure regards the IC replacement - you may possibly need the immobiliser components and computers from the donor car too. Search the forum and you should find some answers.
mjt
Even if you do change the cluster my understanding is that you can only increase the displayed mileage so you'd need to make sure you got one with a lower mileage than your old one.
