swifty137
Hi Everyone, First time poster. I hope someone can help me or offer some advice please. I recently bought a Focus 1.6 econetic diesel. It hadn’t had a service in a while so I changed the oil, filter, air filter etc last weekend. Last night on the way home from work it started making a ticking noise which increases in speed in line with engine revs. i turned the engine off and let it cool down for ten minutes and took it out again to see if it reappeared. The noise wasn’t there again until the engine got back up to temperature. From google searches I’ve seen that it could be an issue with oil that I have used. This is what I put in it. http://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-fluids/engine-oil/halfords-5w30-ford-fully-synthetic-motor-oil-5l Guy at Halfords said this would be fine. I’m thinking that I may need to swap it for a better quality oil such as Castrol Magnetec. Any advice anyone can offer is much appreciated. Thanks,

Thanks, Hi, welcome to the forum. It may just be coincidental that you recently serviced it.The most recent issue I had with a ticking noise (not a rattle) from the engine bay was a leaky injector seal. I'm not the most experienced DIY'er on here so wait for some more advice but it may be worth checking to see if there's any deposits left around the injector seals. The oil you used looks ok - I think a few people on here get Halfords oil when it's on offer!
williamweb
As long as the correct spec oil is in and the correct amount, your description of the engine ticking when warm is normal mate.I don't think you have discovered any horrors.Mine sounds like an old tractor, had it for seven years.Just to add the best thing you can do for your engine is regular oil changes at least every six months, happy days.
