Aluns1
Good afternoon all, I am after some help as my wife has lost one of the keyfobs for the 2014 Focus titanium navigator which we have. It is the style which has the blade of the key hidden in under the little cover on the back of the 3 button fob. The dealer has quoted £83 for the fob but £100 for programming. can I get it done somewhere else? any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Alun
Stoney871
I'd get quotes from a few local Auto Locksmiths first.Sent from my SM-G930F
Aluns1
Thanks Stoney, my only issue could be is that the car goes back off lease in the next few months so if the auto locksmith gives me a non ford key will they end up charging me through the nose (the dealer that is) Cheers Alun
Stoney871
A decent locksmith should be able to source an original key and at a better price than Ford retail price. The big chunk is the reprogramming cost at your dealership which is a rip for a literally 2 minute job.The problem is that dealerships won't do anything without a one hour diagnostic check which is a ) pointless and b ) is charged at a minimum hours labour rate. All they do is plug the car in while they carry on with other jobs then come back to read the results while their tea brews.Any Auto locksmith you contact may well be under retainer to the dealership to process their keys anyway so you can simply cut out the (rather expensive) middleman.I have a good contact where I live who does all the keys for my dealership and he gets just the basic costs while the dealership makes the majority of the cash.Sent from my SM-G930F

iantt
It is a rip off charging an hour for programming keys. It takes me all of 5 mins to program as long as the laptop and software is not playing up.lol

ScaniaPBman
Here's my contribution to the Replacement Key debate in this topic I bought my flip key from the same supplier as Simon (simcor). The service was excellent, I sent a close-up picture of the blade as cut on my current key at 13:00 ish and the finished key dropped through the letter box first thing NEXT MORNING, amazing. To top it off the key actually turned in the door and ignition! Programming it to suit the car was not so quick. I am not up to all this Forscan clever stuff. The delay was mainly my fault since I had not done my homework properly. Local car key specialists quoted £60 to match the key to the car. My frequently used one said he would do it for £40. I sent Mrs ScaniaPBman round and he did the biz in 10 mins. Total price comes out at £31+£40= £71 If the frequently used man had done the whole job he would have charged £100 to supply the key and fully programme it. The others started from £125 for the same thing. I didn't even bother to get a price from my neighbourhood Ford dealer, I felt certain they would not match these prices. Devonboy
I purchased a new flip key last week, Ford dealer quoted £114, local locksmith did the job for £70 using a genuine Ford key. he also mentioned not to purchase blanks from the internet as the chips are of cheap Chinese origin and are not reliable

RobertDarwin
It's a great deal, getting it done at £110. Even local locksmith is charging me £150 for that.
