What about something that can go in the glove box? I have a diagnostic laptop but when you hit "limp mode" your usually out with nothing.

I have a bluetooth dongle and the Torque app on my phone but don't know how useful that will be. I see a lot of £20 hand held diagnostic machines that claim to be able to clear codes is anyone using one of them? Any recommendations? the cheaper the better.

There is not one ideal solution. Forscan is the most comprehensive diagnostics & maintenance package you can get apart from the Ford IDS system found in dealers & some other garages. But it is not very convenient or that easy to use. A self-contained OBD2 scanner for under £20 will display 80% of the error codes you are likely to get, and clear them, and is much more convenient.

I use both, a very basic old U480 handheld scanner, and Forscan with an ELM327. You can get both for well under £30 total, and are then covered for most error code type problems.
