Start/Stop Technology question

Hi guys,

I've recently purchased a 2014 fiesta zetec s with what was advertised as start/stop technology.

I passed my test in the vauxhall corsa that had the same, just a question, when i stalled the corsa all i needed to do was depress the clutch to restart the engine, does anyone know if the fiesta has the same operation, i never stalled it on my test drive so didn't have to do it and i was too excited to try it out on the drive.

Cheers,

The fiesta has "antistall" so if you release the clutch the car will add revs slightly to help prevent you stalling. Obviously if you're useless with a clutch you're always going to stall it. I've only ever stalled mine once and that was when I first got it hence can't remember the process of restarting

Does your car also have hill hold assist? As again this should help prevent you stalling

Just passed your test and you buy a Zetec S ?  Be-careful out there and try not to right the car off or harm yourself

I've known loads of people pass their test and brag off about their new car, some buy a low powered cars but many buy sports cars only to crash it a month on.

My Sons mate passed his test and he got a 208 GTI and all he did was brag & brag, a week later he wrote it off going around a bend.

Sorry for the negativity but everyone prangs their first car, that's why parents tell their kids to buy a cheap car as you'll prang it.

Stay safe

Aye mate, most of my friends did the same things, bought alfa's and the likes and wrapped them around lampposts and other inanimate objects.

I'm 28 so have a more sensible frame of mind and i value my life and car haha.

Thanks for the heads up though.

I've passed my test 7 and a half months ago, hav not hit anything yet...not everyone is the same. :wink:One of my friends has a 65 plate Fiesta Titanium as his first car, hes done about 10k miles in a year in it and hasn't had any issues, the only dent in it was caused by someone else in a car park!

Plus a ZS is only a Zetec with a body kit, not exactly a 208 GTI as you describe! A GTI is excessive as a first car. The ZS ounds like the perfect first car if you ask me. I'd rather be driving a newer, safer car as a new driver if the worst happens and I'm involved in an accident.

Congrats OP on passing, won't take long to get into the swing of things properly. When I was learning I stalled my Focus a few times, strangely putting the car into neutral and releasing the clutch, then pressing the clutch again seemeseemed to restart the car unless it said "manual restart required" not sure if there's a similar system in the Fiesta or not.

Thanks man, yeah i wouldn't consider anything more powerful, not because of the unsuitability but the absolute looseness of my back end after the insurance companies would have had their way with me at excessive amounts.

Huh strange, meh i suppose i will have to wait and see until i jump into it and do the inevitable.

Congrats on your no scratch history, lets hope you touched wood after writing that haha. (not as dirty as it sounds)

If I stall my Fiesta 1.5tdci with stop/start it restarts when I press the clutch.

You can easily find out if your car has Hill Start Assist.   Find a hill and drive halfway up and stop.   Hold down the footbrake with the handbrake off and take your foot off the footbrake.   If your car stays where it is you have Hill Start Assist.   If it rolls back you haven't.

I'll be sure to try this out for sure, thanks for the reply.

Enter your reg into ford etis. It'll tell you if it has hill start assist :)

I binned my mk6 fiesta 12 days after passing my test. Learnt from it, scrapped the car and bought an identical one so the girlfriends parents didn't find out.

Two years down the line I've got a ZS. It's not just a zetec with a body kit, the ecoboost also has 25ps more than the "standard" zetec unless Is specced otherwise

They grip like glue round corners, but even So it doesn't take long to find the limit as you'll feel well before it goes.

Safe driving and enjoy the new car!

When I was 28 I was trying to kill myself in my MKII RS2000, luckily I knew how to get round corners sideways

So 2 years down the line and you have traded for a ZS, have you traded the mrs too or have you kept hold of her hoping she will pass her MOT at year 3 [emoji12]

My pal had an xr2i as his first car, I'm actually amazed he didn't stack it. I had an old Astra GTE, wasnt that old when I had it 19 years ago! Anyway I 'gently' nosed that into a dry stone wall, the wall faired pretty well lol

I was 29 when I passed my test [first attempt]. I bought a Ford Escort 1.6 and wrote it off within two weeks.

I passed my test 50 years ago and still haven't pranged it yet, I think if you become over-cautious and keep worrying you will eventually prang it. By passing your test you have proved you can be a responsible driver. Just take care and try not to do any daft  stunts when mates in the car try to encourage you to do so. Anyone wrapping their car around a lampost etc because of speed proves poor driving skill,  it's not the crar that is dangerous, it is the person behind the wheel controlling it.

Enjoy the car and leave road rage at home. It's your licence you worked hard to get it so look after it, no-one can take it away from you unless you deserve it. Enjoy your new found freedom.

Thanks man, it's too true though, lots of younger minded men showing off in front of pals are what cause a lot of issues with younger drivers.

''Heel & Toe'' gear changing and of course big balls in this shed which I never crashed too  Sold it back in 1993 because of mad car insurances against the RS crowd, went from £50 a year to £700, enough was enough so sold it on  Strangely the new owner wrote my love off within a month
