ABS - DONK! Anyone else get this?

Evening peeps.

I have the 09 1.6 TDCi and every time I set off in a morning, I turn the corner, from 1st into 2nd and then I get this, 'donk' sound which feels like it's coming from either the clutch pedal or brake pedal.

Does anyone know what this is?

I remember searching long ago and I seem to recall some info online about 09 - 11 plate fords including Focus and Kuga that do this self abs check and that's what the noise is.

Can anyone confirm if this is the case?

Just took the car for an MOT, passed with flying colours, bloke said I couldn't find a single fault with it.

Sure would be nice to get confirmation on what this noise is.

Cheers :)

its always worse if you do it on a corner, on a straight its a donk, but when turning full lock and accelerating it sounds like the engine has fallen of its mounts,

My mk2 did it :) Sometimes it would sound awful like wheel spin / engine failing out of car / etc .

I always thought I was going mad. Never really got any worse though.  Mk3 doesn't seem to do it.

it would be interesting to know why it does it and why its worse on a corner. I mean I know its the ABS but I cant think of any other car I have driven that has done that.

I mean even my old Astra didn't do it albeit that horrendous crunching sound we get in the focus may very well have been the engine falling off its mount on an astra  :whistling:

I hate having to wait on the clutch to engage to avoid embarrassment of reverse crunching more tbh.

Dee I can only imagine it's to test that the solenoids are all functioning and the motor is working - I suppose whilst turning you will have two wheels turning faster than the others so is it detecting that?
