problemchild
...a things on my £450 streetka 1. the windscreen spray isn't currently working. will have a look for the fuse later but is there anything common i should be looking for? (i can't hear the pump trying but can hear the relay) 2. both ford badges are pretty tatty. Are these expensive? eBay says yes they are. 3. the driver side rear arch has obviously been hit and badly sprayed. are they an easy replace? Thanks JJ
problemchild
oh and the steering wheel is nasty - what options are there? its a pretty small wheel so the generic covers will be a tad loose? JJ

Lee67
I did my steering wheel strips in brushed alloy..£470 is good price
problemchild
were those the ones off eBay? i looked at them but just assumed they would be very small pieces of vinyl? stripped out the washer pump and it seems like the pipe was blocked and the pump has cooked itself its currently soaking in a bowl of water but a new one is only £7 so oredered also ordered some ford side stripes to cover up some of the bad scratches on the lower door and to try and man the car up a bit spent the day cleaning the interior - god it was grubby JJ
GaryPL
Brand new MOT and a washer jet not working? Clearly that was an honest pass at a reputable testing station! Presumably you plan on driving it into the ground and not trying to get it through next year's MOT? As if you get an honest one, my bet is it'll be painful. problemchild
no its a proper mot lots of fails got list of fails and retest (all done at same place) drivers lower suspension replaced plus exhaust rear section maybe they forgot to test it with all the other stuff wrong haha no point driving into ground already spent £100 on getting some decent OEM parts back on it JJ
137699
The ford badges can be rejuvenated by buying stick-onl ford logos that are specifically designed to make them look like new again but at a fraction of the cost of complete new ones. I used this to make the tailgate one on our ka look like new again: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ford-KA-rear-tailgate-badge-/201921820265?hash=item2f037a7669:g:XzAAAOSwd4tUEyEn
problemchild
ta buddy - i'd get the full one for £10 tbh but these are v small compared to the streetka one which is about 120mm (forget now) JJ
problemchild
got a developing rotational "knock" coming on deceleration thought it may be CV joint but seems to be coming from the gearbox :( got a hint of engine mounts as well any info on common issues? JJ
problemchild
i'm thinking no oil in gearbox? drive shaft seal? there has obviously been some oil loss from the driver's side somewhere but i put that down to someone leaving the oil filler cap off and it being sprayed around by the belts on that end. thoughts? problemchild
guess this is part of sub £500 motoring :( is the gearbox fill point easily accessed? JJ
problemchild
sorted out a few little bits today... 1. swapped out the bluetooth/USB/aux radio to a nice 6cd FD6006e unit 2. tidies up the wheel centres 3. Fitted a rear wind deflector and cheesy eBay sticker JJ
137699
This car is going to be rather nice when you've finished with it. Maybe you'll make a few quid come sale time?
problemchild
doubt it - the really bad knocking from the passenger front area is gonna be either a drive shaft/cv failure or something expensive i have no locking wheel nut key - how do i remove? JJ
problemchild
well i've fixed my noise...... what seemed to be a drive shaft was 3 out of 4 finger tight wheel nuts!! seems the MOT people undid 3, looked for the locking nut which is missing and clearly never got round to doing them back up again :( back to loving the car JJ
problemchild
£10 Sumex Car+ 35-36cm (small) steering wheel cover to get away from the sticky OEM one... feels loads better JJ
problemchild
replaced broken near side front fog today relatively simple (20mins) and only £20 off eBay (sportka or streetka fits) need to jack up car as access is all from behind the bumper remove mini scuttle tray from underneath the rad (3 x T??) and an 8mm self tapper remove horn (1 x 13mm) and disconnect (bracket has an orientation tab) remove the self tapper that holds the bottom corner of the bumper to the metal support to give a little flex remove fog light (2 x 10mm) then wriggle it out using the flex created in the step above disconnect then refit it all easy :) JJ
137699
Locking wheel nuts are a PITA. Nobody nicks alloys anymore - all those nuts do is cause issues - lost keys, damaged keys, damaged nuts etc. Your local tyre place will probably be able to get them off for you. I just replaced the locking nuts on ours with some used standard ones - £5 for four on eBay and I don't have to worry about any of the aforementioned problems anymore. Plus I sold the locking nuts & key for £10 so made myself a fiver into the bargain!
problemchild
today added some boy racer dross ;) hopefully doesn't make the car look awful JJ
Saxosim
Looks great, bargain price too. I just bought my wife a Streetka as a suprise for her birthday a few weeks ago as a fun second car so have also been doing a few jobs to it. Just sourced a hardtop and brackets so need to work that out soon. Don't suppose you know of anywhere reasonably priced for front mud flaps as I would like to source a pair to cut down on the road spray Enjoy yours I work I will keep an eye on your post and progress made. problemchild
yeah i looked at mud flaps but man they are expensive so didn't bother i also fancied some side skirts i want ;) JJ
Saxosim
Wow side skirts look great. I wonder why the dam mud flaps are so pricey when parts for these mainly see to be pretty cheap. What's next on your list?
