XR3i HELP!

I am not directly a Ford owner although my wife does have a Fiesta but I do have a Ford Escort XR3i engine in my 1992 Morgan 4/4.

Recently the fuel system has developed an intermittent serious leak, it is leaking from a fitting that looks like a plastic pushfit plumbing fitting and as soon as the ignition is turned on fuel sprays out.  Can anyone tell what is the function of this "elbow" or is it simply a connector for the two parts of the fuel delivery pipe?

My local Morgan dealer cannot identify the part, probably because they don't know what it is, the problem being that this engine was only used by Morgan for part of 1992 and therefore there are not many of them about in Morgans.

Any help that anyone can give on what it is, what it does and where can we get a replacement would be most welcome.

Attached are a couple of photos showing the location in the Morgan engine bay.
