Interior light not working

I have a ford fiesta 56 plate and the interior light doesn't work. Have tested with a multimeter and get 12v when switched on.

Have checked all fuses and all were good

Have changed bulb but doesn't change a thing

Thanks in advance for any help

What kind of bulb is it? If you are using LED then don't forget they are polarity sensitive so it may need turning 180degrees. Or it is possible you have two dodgy bulbs

Just a normal type 12v 10w bulb. Have now tested the switch and shows continuity on the multimeter but have lost the 12v. Is there a fuse for the interior lights?

Yes there is, it's in the fuse box in the engine bay not the one in the passenger compartment. If I am right then your horn should have also stopped working as the two seem to run off the same fuse. It's fuse 32 and it's a 20A fuse. The fuse layout diagram should be on the cover of the fuse box. Fingers crossed 🤞

Thank you. Have checked the engine bay for the fuse box and not able to find it. Where in the engine bay is it?

The wife has her car just now and she is on night shift. From memory it is at the top right of the engine bay and has a black cover

Hi still no luck, Have taken a few photos of the engine bay. Seen a box with coloured wires coming out of a small black box by the battery.

Thanks for all help.

Sorry Gethin Ive unintentionally sent you on a wild goose chase, forgive me. there is no fuse box in the engine bay. I muddled up the years of the fiesta. The interior lights run off a GEM (General Electronic Module) for your year. The problem is either going to be a door switch or the light unit itself. You can run a diagnostic test yourself, instructions below. A replacement GEM, if that's what it is can costs hundreds. If you find out which one it is you can get them off eBay and replace yourself though.

See how you get on with this...

To activate the GEM self test is as follows,

Switch off the ignition
Switch off all other electrical consumers
Apply the handbrake
Shift to neutral
Close the doors.
Activate service mode
Proceed as follows to activate service mode:

OPERATE the switch of the heated rear window and HOLD IT THERE
Turn on the ignition.
RELEASE the switch of the heated rear window
PRESS the heated rear window switch 8 times within 6 seconds
A signal sounds and the direction indicator lamps come on to indicate that
service mode has been successfully activated.
NOTE: If the alarm sounds (in vehicles fitted with an anti-theft
alarm system), service mode cannot be activated.
Input signals
SWITCH the wiper switch to the "Off" position to test the input signals. The
following is a list of the signals to be tested, in no particular order:

Direction indicators (right, left, hazard warning lights)
"Lights on" warning (terminal 58)
windshield wiper (intermittent wipe)
windshield washer system
rear window wiper
rear window washer system
Doors open/closed
Central locking (if fitted)
Bonnet up/down (in vehicles fitted with anti-theft alarm system)
Heated rear window
Heated windscreen (if fitted)
An acoustic signal sounds and the turn signal lamps flash to indicate receipt
of each input signal by the generic electronic module.
Output signals
SWITCH the wiper switch to the "Intermittent" position to test the output
signals. PRESSING the heated rear window switch activates or deactivates the
output signals in the following order:

Windshield wipers (a signal sounds and the direction indicator lamps flash
when the "Park" position is reached)
Heated rear window
Interior light(s) (the interior light switch must be in the "ON" position)
rear window wiper
heated windshield (if equipped, is only activated when engine is
running)
If the heated rear window switch is operated again, the sequence restarts
with point 'a' and the functions are activated again in this order.
End service mode
The GEM automatically ends service mode 20 seconds after the final input.
However, service mode can be manually ended at any time by proceeding as
follows:

OPERATE the switch of the heated rear window and HOLD IT THERE
Switch off the ignition.
RELEASE the switch of the heated rear window
3 signals sound and the direction indicator lamps come on to indicate that
service mode has ended.

Thanks. Have got the 12v back but still no light. Will try a new light unit. Door sensors work fine.

Hi

Hope someone can help me - Ford Fiesta Active, 22 plate (23) interior lights do not switch on when the car is unlocked by the fob but do when the ignition is turned off and the doors are opened.  They have been working ok but suddenly seem to have de-activated somehow.

They are ok manually switching on/off at the light and via the centre button switches - the centre button is in the middle position.

Any ideas anyone please?

Thanks

Mich

Another question you may be able to help with.

Could the above be anything to do with the fact that the window switches on the arm rests stay illuminated blue for 10 minutes after the car is switched off and locked up?  Apparently this is usual but I don't know any other car with that pointless feature.

Thanks

I doubt that will be making a big difference.

It's usually short journeys that are the main problem.
