Nick54320
Hi there, I have two queries, firstly when driving my 61 reg Ford Fiesta Zetec, when going under 10 mph and especially when turning, I hear a sorts of grinding noise, it doesn't affect the drive just doesn't sound right and I was wondering if anyone had any idea about this or experienced it before? Also, I have a space saver but now have acquired a spare alloy and I was just wondering whether it's possible in anyway to have a full spare in the boot? Whether anyone had done it? And whether if it was to go in, how big it would be? Im going to try it tomorrow but was just wondering if anyone had any experience. Thank you
usersteve
Hi Nick your best bet would be to just try the wheel and see for yourself The grinding noise,,, where would you say its coming from wheel? front/back?
isetta
full spare will fit in boot width wise but it will be a bit high so boot floor will not be as low and flat as it was. I would not see that as a problem for most people. the wheel won't be secured in so it could fly around in theory if car was in accident and turned over but personally i would not worry about that as likelihood is low, but it is a bigger risk than before. MJNewton
As above check to see if the spare alloy will fit. On ours (with 195/50/R16 'Titanium' alloys) it wouldn't due to it being slightly too big a diameter with a newish tyre on so I opted for a 14" steel spare (175/65/R14) instead and this gave the added benefit of not raising the floor too. It is also a bit lighter but that wasn't of much concern to me. Regarding the spare being loose I fixed it down with a couple of releasable cable ties to the bracket in the wheel well. Nick54320
I think my next course of action will be just trying to see if it fits etc and then go from there. The noise i would say is there front, perhaps the drivers side. Very strange and doesn't sound right but doesn't seem to affect the drive in anyway. Is noticeable at slower speeds and turning. May just book it in but don't really want to pay the fees aha
