unfortunatly that method no longer applies to alot of modern engines especialy the 1.25 the topic is supposed to be refering to. the probem being there is no key to locate crank timing pulley to crank .

Is this the same with the 1.4?

yes , theres been a few on here that have done what you suggest and done lots of damage, bent valves, brokem cams. etc.

for the 1.25, 1.4 1.6 tools inc flywheel locking tool no more than £25. £8 for timing tools, £16 flywheel locking tool. that on ebay i looked. 

then after youve used it  just put it back on ebay to recoup some of the cost.
