Okay so this may be the dumbest question ever but how do I know if my fiesta has an alarm..?

Few different ways

1. Go to https://www.etis.ford.com and enter your VIN number. If it comes up saying "Less Anti-Theft Alarm", then you don't

2. Leave a window open and lock the car. After a few minutes open the door from the handle inside. If it goes off, you have an alarm.

Afaik all UK Mk7 Fiesta's have the perimeter alarm, which is triggered by any door, the boot or bonnet opening when the car is locked.

The ST has a thatcham alarm with interior motion sensors.

Alex, according to etis my 2010 Zetec tdci doesn't have a permiter alarm as it states "Less Anti-Theft Alarm".

I've also tried openning the door when the car is locked and the alarm did not go off, so mine probably doesn't have one. I'd imagine there are certain models that include it as standard, but not all of them.

My 2010 Titanium had the perimeter alarm.

Maybe it was only on certain trims for the early cars.

Another way to test alarms is to open the car door using just the manual key (not rcl buttons).
Do not put the key in the ignition (or do not place the key inside the car at all if it's keyfree) and wait.
If the alarm sounds then you will know.

I have a mk7.5 price list jan 2015, alarm was optional on style and zetec at £100.  standard on other models except studio where it was not available at all.

on my car to test. sit in car without key in ignition. lock doors with key fob. wait a couple of minutes, pull bonnet release, alarm sounds.  I did this so that I would know what it sounds like if I hear a car alarm in the night.  alas I have forgotten what it sounds like now.

  • 2 weeks later...

I was messing around with forscan earlier and it appears the perimiter alarm is a feature that can be activated even if the car doesn't come with it.

My 2010 Zetec did not have an alarm, yet i was able to activate it using forscan. Tested with the open window method and the car behaved correctly.

I did come across the following bugs however that will need further testing to confirm their cause

  1. I get a notice saying "Bonnet open". My bonnet has a sensor on it, however it needs some "persuasion" to close fully after a minor bump, so the lock might need replacing on my car.
  2. I don't get an actual alarm sounding. The hazzard lights are flashing which indicates i'm missing the sounder. My horn has stopped working some time ago (before i activated the alarm) so will need to test again when i replace it. At this stage i'm unsure if the car needs a separate sounder for the alarm or it simply honks the horn when the alarm goes off.

I'm quite confident those bugs are limited to my car, but will let you know when i get to the bottom of them.

I may be wrong but I have a suspicion that the alarm uses the horn as the sounder

I also checked earlier today before I read the post above and found the same thing. The layout of the screen has changed since I last looked and it seems that you have to click on something else to see more than the basic details but as above when you click where it says nothing happens.

another thing which also happened before the recent change, if I use google chrome you have to put vin number in, the box for reg no does not appear.it does appear with internet explorer

As for the reg number change the setting from US to UK through the start page and preferences and you can put reg in then.

Yes im getting the same problem no drop down just the basic details.

OK, thanks, I have now got the reg. no. option.  I am wondering if they have changed the system so that it only shows the more detailed info if you register and log in perhaps. Are you registered and logged in? (I am not)

Looks like a coding issue on the updated website. There appear to be some JavaScript errors on the details page, which probably break the "more details" button. Looking at the source of the page, the details are there, just hidden, so it's probably a temporary bug.

checked again (not logged in). My current Fiesta says click to expand but does not expand to show the features.

A Focus I previously owned Y998XOT has the 'click to expand' part missing from the screen.

An Escort I previously owned R198HUF has the 'click to expand' part and when I click on it, it does go on to show the full list.

So I randomly looked at some cars for sale on Autotrader:  ML05XFA  works ok.  RX52CLJ works OK.  Newer ones don't seem to work.

Clearly it's not working in a consistent manner
