Well took car in today to Source Sounds in Sheffield, had new headunit fitted. So let me introduce you all to the Kenwood DMX7017 DAB... Android Auto and Apple car play ready, DAB ready, mechless.. all in all think it looks very smart and the audio improvement is night and day over the stock Sony DAB it had in it. Which is now on eBay!!

  • 3 weeks later...

My MK2 1.8 TDCi saloon Ghia still going strong at 142K miles, pictures are from last year.

Still on the original:

  • Clutch
  • DMF
  • Turbo
  • Injectors
  • High pressure pump

Items replaced/upgrades:

  • Refurbished the rear calipers (including guide pins/seals) and painted gloss black (planning to do the fronts in 2018)
  • Blanked the EGR valve
  • New glow plugs
  • Refurbished alternator
  • New battery
  • Vented Brembo discs on the front
  • Bosch discs on the rear
  • EBC Yellowstuff pads all round
  • Pagid flexi brake hoses on the rear
  • Replaced both front wings with genuine Ford ones as they were well rotted at the bottom
  • Fitted genuine Ford mud flaps front and rear
  • Replaced the leaking heater matrix
  • Replaced the crappy little 90 degree pipe that always cracks on this engine with a silicone part (the one near the EGR)
  • Silver (non OEM) front grill
  • Pioneer DEH-X7800DAB (award winning Pioneer DAB stereo)
  • External microphone and DAB antenna (cables concealed)
  • Replaced the dodgy rear speakers with JVC units
  • Replaced all interior lights with cool white LED Bulbs
  • Replaced number plate bulbs with cool white LED Bulbs
  • Replaced reverse lights with genuine Cree LED Bulbs (Cree bulbs kick *****)
  • Blue hologram effect gel badges, including the steering wheel (exterior badges aren't pictured)
  • Vinyl wrapped (with black 3M vinyl) the full centre console, handbrake surround, gear shift surround, lower trims (passenger & drivers side), the 4 satin silver trims on the steering wheel and the rear cubby hole thing that pulls out for rear passengers
  • Replaced the 3 console knobs with the illuminated ones that most of us on here have used
  • Replaced the gear knob with a nice one silver one off a MK4 Mondeo
  • Replaced the gear shift gaiter with a nice new leather one which included a chrome finish surround
  • Fitted 3 cool white SMD pads in the boot so it's like "Blackpool Illuminations" when I get looking in the boot at night
  • Replaced the ugly Ghia alloys with the nice "Y-Spoke" ones of a MK4 Mondeo
  • Fitted front and rear Heko wind deflectors

All of the above is over the last 5-6 years and a lot of it was my choice rather than necessary,, it really hasn't cost me much in the time I've owed it.  She still drives spot on and when a job needs doing to keep her running nicely I make sure it's done, hoping to get a few more years out of her yet before she goes to the scrapheap.

(Also got a Terraclean done 3 years ago which made a massive difference, especially when cold).

EDIT - When I finally get chance to get her properly clean inside I'll take some pics of the interior lighting.

Early Mk2 facelift 1.6TDCi, Feb 2008 built.

Titanium spec but with most of the extras of a Titanium X - they didn't make a Titanium X spec on the mk2.5 so the options had to be individually selected.  On top of the usual Titanium spec (auto wipers, lights and rear view mirror, premium sound system, voice control, ambient lighting, door sill plates, multispoke alloys, etc) I also have xenon headlights, washers and levellers with LED rears, rear privacy glass & front screen heat reflective (IR) coating, powerfold mirrors with puddle lights and full leather heated seats with electronic adjustment on the drivers side.  I'd been looking for one specifically with cruise and climate control as optional extras, but couldn't leave this one with the options it had, I knew I could add cruise fairly easily...and would have to live with the lack of climate, 3 years on the manual AC is still one of the worst parts of this car lol, fortunately they fit climate to all Titaniums on mk3 lol!

Still basically standard but improvements since the factory are - cruise control, gel badges & plates, clear rear fog, gloss black front fog surrounds, ice white sidelight bulbs, ~140bhp remap, dashcam.

The 50mm drop and Mondeo alloys make a BIG difference to the look/stance of the car, very nice.

Thanks mate  Even before I picked the car up (it belonged to a mate's dad) I knew I wanted it clean, plain & simple

I'm also not a fan of the "Fast and the Furious" big daft wing and bodykit scraping on the road floor look...although I wouldn't mind some underbody neons, lol

Here are a few pictures of my Mk2.5 Focus ST2. You may recognise the photos from issue two of Modern Classics magazine, and more recently in the Heritage Insurance adverts! The magazine wanted to do a feature on the Ford Focus ST with it's competitors, VW Golf GTI and Honda Civic Type R, for it's first issues. The photo-shoot and road tests were done in and around the surrounding areas of Silverstone race circuit.

Needless to say, Mike Duff, author of the article, loved the ST! Having been at the original press day release of the Mk2 Focus ST back in 2005, on Mike's return from road testing my car, it had reminded him of how good the car was, his smile was like a Cheshire cat that had pinched all the cream!

I purchased the car in January 2012 from our local main Ford dealer. Although it was a "dealer demo" car, she only had 92 miles on the clock! She is standard and has only done 38,000 miles. The performance is very quick and although the ride is a bit firm, the road holding is superb, and I love the noise the 5-pot makes!!!

Modern Classics magazine think my car could be the last registered Mk2 Focus, July 2011, supported by Ford's Etis...unless you know differently!

That's the very same (or similar) head unit i'm looking at, what do you think of it? Was looking at the Sony one but it's not got a flat front and would either stick out or look silly if it's pushed back flush with the dash

the headunit is really good considering how much it cost (£80, from Halfords!) I would recommend getting the next one up with bluetooth though. I regret not doing it. The headunit i had in my old mk1.5 focus was sticking out, only slighty but i though it looked messy so went with one that sits flush with the dash this time.
