I only have one central locking key for my 2006 Fiesta.

What is the best/cheapest way of acquiring a spare key?

do you mean you have one key with the buttons on and one plain key, or you only have one key in total?  I had a 2007 fiesta and I think you needed to already have two keys in order to program a new one but I might be wrong.  At that time Ford supplied one key with buttons on and one plain key with a new Fiesta. You had to pay about £25 extra for a 2nd key with buttons on, or have the optional Technology pack.

I only have one key. When I bought it it only came with one central locking key,  nothing else.

You can get a key with no buttons just the fob however best to get it with all the electronics. You then would need it cut and programmed so it starts the car.

My fiesta only came with one key so had to get a spare one like you. I bought a flip up ford key and bought a normal key with the electronics. Swapped the electronics. Now just have to get it cut and the immobiliser chip programmed.

Here's a video on how to program the key. My dad did it on my car with the new key and they both lock and unlock the car.

Erm, none of what zain611 made any sense to me at all, sorry.

Anyone got any simple suggestions of where and how to get a spare key?

Timpson's:

Non-remote car keys

We can supply and cut chipped (transponder keys) non-remote keys for your vehicle the main difference being there are no remote functions on the key (this type of key is also known as a copy key).  Please call in to your nearest Timpson store for further information regarding your key.

Remote car keys

We can supply, cut and program original remote control keys in our auto specialist stores. Our original keys are exactly the same as the keys you can buy from your main car dealer, the big benefit having Timpson cut and program your keys is they are on average 20% cheaper and can offer a more efficient programming service than the dealer.

Thanks Tiexen. Where is my nearest Timpsons? (I am in Maldon in Essex) And how much would a remote control key be for a 2006 Ford Fiesta?

as for price you'll have to ask.

Zain611, the link you posted shows resetting keys on a mk6 fiesta. Would this same procedure work on a 1999 mk4?

My remote key hasn't worked since i've had the car , and would like to get it working.

Hey Andy I'm not too sure sorry. You could try. My dad was the one who programmed it and I'm sure this was with a blank tip before getting it cut and the immobiliser chip programmed.

Only thing I'm not sure about is if putting a blank key in the ignition barrel might get stuck in there. I had a bad experience where my cousin put my cut key in his mum's mk1 focus ignition barrel and that took about 20 minutes to get the key out the barrel. Thought I had to cut the key out. I don't know though if a blank key will get stuck in the ignition barrel

I need a new keyless entry key as current one is only lasting 7 days per battery are the eBay ones easy to programme? as they are loads cheaper than getting one from the dealership.

When I was getting my key programmed and cut the guy said something about the immobiliser chip. I think he said the aftermarket ones are made out of a different material compared to the Ford factory ones. Luckily he had a spare immobiliser chip so swapped it. I'd say best to try and get a genuine ford key with electronics. The one I bought was from eBay

Edit: just realised you said keyless. I think scotty kilmer made a video talking about getting different keys and programming them.

Ford keep changing the PATS system. It does little to stop theft, the crooks soon find out the "secrets", but it makes it hard to get keys programmed.

Forscan can do Fiesta 2008 -2011, and also US market Fiesta for 2011-2017, but not keyless version.

(From the Forscan Download page, with all the change history.)

So it looks like Ford Stealers have a monopoly on later UK Fiestas, and on the Mk3 Focus. So they can charge whatever they feel like. sad.pngangry.png

Forscan will do mk3 Focus etc keys if you request the short term extended licence via the Forscan forum.
