Problems with music/podcasts etc - Fiesta / iPhone

Featured Replies

I've just got a 2016 Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost Titanium with the factory fitted radio, aux, etc. I've paired an iPhone 6s with it and am having a few problems when playing music via the phone. I've checked the manual and looked online, but found nothing so I'm hoping someone on here can help me.

1. When an album, podcast etc is playing, the volume will noticeably reduce regularly for a few seconds throughout and then come back up again. I've checked the recordings on the iPhone and everything is ok there.

2. Also when listening to a recording from the iPhone, you can hear a low level 'tinkling' sound like bells before an announcement go off. When I first heard it, I thought the sat nav was going to cut in but it didn't. Just the little tinkling sound , sometimes accompanied by a reduction in volume, then back to the recording.

3. I can listen to recordings from the iPhone whilst it's plugged in as an Aux, but I cannot access it otherwise. Should I be able to access music etc through Bluetooth and, if so, how do I set it up?

Hope someone can help me!

So do the first two happen while playing over USB or Bluetooth audio?

The adjusting volume may be down to the auto adjust setting in your car. It gets louder as your speed increases I believe to compensate for engine noise.

When using an aux lead, the only thing it will do is play like a pair of headphones. I'm not quite sure about what you mean about accessing the phone through bluetooth though.

Do you have reversing sensors? The volume reduces and there is a sound when they kick in. Perhaps you have a faulty connection?

At the moment, I don't seem to be able to listen to music on the iPhone via Bluetooth, so it's just whilst playing over USB.  It's a new lead, and I've tried another one with the same result.

Most of the time, the music will get much lower for just a few seconds then come back up. It doesn't appear to relate to speed/engine noise at all. I was cruising at around 60mph on fairly fast roads during the middle of the day when the volume was fluctuating, and the road noise was more or less the same for much of the journey.

I have paired the phone to the car using Bluetooth and it will happily make and receive calls without being connected via the Aux lead. However, I cannot play music from the phone without it being connected via the USB. With my husband's car (an Astra) once my phone is paired, I can scroll through music etc on his display screen, select albums and podcasts to play.

Does that explain the situation better?

I do have front/rear sensors (I've not noticed a sound when the kick in though) but have never used them with music playing.  I'll have to check that, but I'm sure you're right.  However, I wonder if there is a faulty connection somewhere.

Ahh I see. It should play over bluetooth, I would've thought SYNC is standard on a 2016, especially on a high end model. When you press aux, can you cycle through SYNC, Line in, and USB as you keep pressing the aux button? If you press it untill it says SYNC, connect your phone via bluetooth, open the music app and it should play through the car.

Thanks, I'll re-check what happens when I select Aux and come back here if I still have a problem.

Just a quick update in case anyone is having the same problems.

I've discovered that the 'tinkling' sound is effectively advising you that you have a text/message come through.  The sound will also decrease for a few seconds at the same time.

I've also checked what options are available under Aux (suggested by Saftie above), and can now play music over Bluetooth without needing the phone to be connected via the USB.

Thanks to everyone who responded.
