Was hoovering the car out the other day and noticed that the driver's side front seat mount (front, nearest the door) is rusty. The black paint is bubbled etc.

Is this a common problem? Do I need to be lifting the carpet etc to see what else is affected?

Wife's MK2.5 (58 plate) Focus has the same issue, as per the above comments a quick sand and some anti rust paint will see to that problem.  Slightly strangely my 2005 MK2 doesn't suffer from the issue?!?

Mines the same...would expect better paint to be used on the rails for my full leathers with what they cost as an option... :whistling:

Yes, but by purchasing their paint off eBay as "unbranded" they save 3p per car

I would say it depends on the climate where you live and if they use a lot of salt in winter which will get dragged in on your shoes.  The metal seat frames in my cars always started rusting within a couple of years when I lived in Canada because snow would stick to shoes, mixed with salt from the road or sidewalks which would attack the metal as soon as it melted.  Then again, it didn't take much longer for the rest of the car to became a rust bucket so no one noticed the seats as being any worse.

So am I right in thinking that it's just crappy paint on the seat and nothing to do with the floorpan? If that's the case, that's generally OK. I was just worried that the rust will be spreading to the chassis.
