synaesthesia
After spending most of the morning wrestling with the removal of the damn cooling fan, I've gotten my DPF out to replace it with a refurbed part. So far so good, until I notice a slight variation in the models :( The DPF that came out is moden 8M51-SH270-AA, the one I have been sent is 9M51-5H270-DA They appear identical with the exception of 2 extra ports in the top of the one I've been sent presumably for some sort of sensors. Have I been sent the wrong part? Can I fit the new one and block the holes with appropriate size bolts?
TomsFocus
Top tip for the fan cowling, cut part of the tab off the top corner that gets stuck with a Dremel or similar. The cowling rattles anyway but you'll never get it back in otherwise! As for the DPF, sounds like the wrong one. Extra holes are in the coated DPF (mid 09 onwards) which is much better than the old style one but not interchangeable.
synaesthesia
Is there a particular reason they're not interchangeable if you dont mind me asking? And yup, that's exactly what I ended up doing with the fan :D
TomsFocus
Although it will bolt on ok, the PCM is programmed for the old type and it's not just a tick box to change. You'll still be chucking eolys additive into the fuel which won't do the cDPF any good. The old type needs a much hotter temp to regen and be done more frequently, the PCM will continue to do that which could damage the newer type. There may be other reasons that I've forgotten. I looked into 'upgrading' to the newer type about 3 years ago but was told it wasn't possible. The thread should still be on here somewhere. synaesthesia
Ah, gotcha. I assumed it would have been temperature related and not liking having the additive chucked in it. Put the old one back in for now so I've got a car for the time being. Just got to wait for the eBay seller to make up some excuses as to why he was selling a euro 5 DPF as fit for 2004-2010 Focus's. Shame about not being able to retrofit, I did spent an hour or so googling around with no luck, that might have made the whole thing a bit less painful! TomsFocus
The sellers won't know what they're selling...plus the late Mk2 facelifts did come with them, crossover was some point in 2009. I'm sure it won't be the first they've had returned though!
synaesthesia
Indeed, but he was a specialist Focus breaker apparently. Will see what he says. If not I'll have to flog it on and get myself another. I thought for a brief moment about power washing the old one out to see if that improves it, but despite the success stories I couldn't help but imagine it would turn out a bit more like Ross (Friends) when he mixed oil and talc putting on leather trousers...
TomsFocus
It only works with the straight DPFs anyway, the 1.6 dpf has bent ends so you can't get the pressure washer lance in. On the older Peugeot 1.6s you could separate the cat and DPF easily to clean it. I have no idea why they stopped doing it that way, unless they decided it was just too easy to smash out the DPF like that.

If it's a business you bought from (as a buy it now) you are covered by the consumer rights act (distance selling regs) and have the right to return it. PayPal currently have an offer on - "return shipping on us" which will refund your shipping costs for sending it back. You need to register for this offer though. He's arguing against the wrong description, said I'm free to return for a refund but at my cost for postage. Not having any of it, despite having documentation from ford proving the moron wrong! Just open a "not as described" case on eBay and attach a scan of whatever you got from Ford stating the dpf is the wrong model. Once a return case has been approved the shipping label (through ebay) is usually free, or at least is was last week when I returned something myself! Paypal Return Shipping on Us: https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/refunded-returns If he is a business:- Have a read: https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-contracts-regulations#cancelling-goods-and-services Quote Your right to cancel Your right to cancel an order for goods starts the moment you place your order and ends 14 days from the day you receive your goods. If your order consists of multiple goods, the 14 day period runs from when you get the last of the batch. This 14 day period is the time you have to decide whether to cancel, you then have a further 14 days to actually send the goods back. If he is arguing the toss, and refusing, then just refer it to eBay. You will need to pay for return shipping unless eBay send you a label, but you should receive a FULL refund of what you paid (including any shipping costs for them to send it to you if not Free delivery). Remember to try and claim back your return shipping if you do have to pay for it.
