Diesel Smell / Leak Ford Fiesta 2006

Featured Replies

Hi, i have a Ford Fiesta 2006 1.4.

Recenty noticed a diesel smell inside the car. This morning checked the engine, and if you look at the photo the part circled in red appears to be leaking, and where ive highlighted it blue, there seems to be fluid which smells like diesel around the rim. What is this part and any suggestions/ideas of the problem?

Thanks

Matt

That's the fuel filter.  Either one of the fuel lines is leaking, or the filter casing has cracked in the cold weather.

if you have a leak there one of the side effects could turn into a very annoying problem. the diesel draining back down the pipe to the fuel tank and the pipe being left full of air (let in from the leak) and then you find the car won't start (or does start but dies a few seconds later) as the fuel system needs bleeding to get the air out - which can be quite troublesome to do
