Which car to buy

Featured Replies

I'm looking to buy a second hand Fiesta car... There's two I'm interested in 1.4 tdci 2011 or 1.6 econetic 2012. I need assistant to make a wise decision. Fuel consumption is important to me.

I assume you're doing more than just city driving then requiring a diesel?

I'm not sure if there's much difference between the 1.4 and the 1.6 in terms of fuel consumption. Personally I'd go for the 1.6 if I could.

Also depends on what model you get. An edge doesn't have alloys compared to the top spec titanium which has all the bells and whistles.

i have driven a 1.4tdci. I did not think it was quite good enough for me so bought a 1.6tdci (that was my previous fiesta, not the 1.5 I have  now). The 1.6 is 95bhp, can't recall what the 1.4 is.  The econetic has higher gearing than a non-econetic, so a 1.6 econetic will probably not be any quicker away from the lights but is probably better on long motorway hills at higher speed.

Depends on your driving style and the roads you will be driving on.  The  1.6 econetic should in theory be better on fuel but it depends if you will be driving on long straight roads where it can take advantage of the higher gearing. Another advantage - the econetics came with a spare wheel as standard - the same size as the wheels on the car.  The 1.4 would not have had a spare wheel as standard and if it has one, it is probably smaller than the wheels on the car.   Econetics have 175/65/14 wheels/tyres as standard as the narrower wheels aid the fuel economy.
