MOT Brake Failure

Featured Replies

Hi All, new the forum.

Just failed MOT on rear brakes (one side not that effective).  Had drums off and the slave cylinders look fine (no leaks) drums and shoes look within tolerance with regard to wear, but I though just for a fresh start I'd replace drums shoes and bearings.  I'm conscious however, that the wearing surfaces would need bedding in, but does anyone know if all these new components together will show as an increased braking efficiency on the rolling road during the retest.  I'm currently not in a position to be able to drive the car around so as to bed the brake components in before I present the car to the MOT re-test.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Don’t see any reason why they would fail a retest unless the handbrake wasn’t adjusted correctly, after all if you had the garage do them they wouldn’t bed the brakes in either!

bedding in is adviseable if you hadnt replaced the drums. but as you have replaced drums and shoes then it should be ok.

Thanks Russ, you have a very good point.  iantt, that makes sense.  Thank you both guys.

If you are in any doubt, for a small fee I'm sure the garage would run it on the brake rollers for you before putting it on the test.
