DIY tool for learning new TPMS

Hello,

I would like to link up four new Ford TPMS sensors to my car (the ones which have a standard looking black flexible valve and sensor inside the wheel, 315MHz).

Although I haven't tried this, I'm not convinced the deflation method will work so I'm searching for an electronic gadget.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks.

There are 2 different methods to program TPMS sensors on European Ford models.

Step 1:  Press the brake 1 time.
Step 2:  Switch the ignition on/off 3 times (end with the ignition on).
Step 3:  Press the brake 1 time.
Step 4:  Switch the ignition on/off 3 times (end with the ignition on).

Now the horn will sound which indicates that the TPMS system is in learning mode. Once in learning mode  a Ford TPMS tool is needed.

Holding the TPMS tool close to the TPMS sensor while pressing the button on the tool basically forces the TPMS valve to transmit a signal.

Once in learning mode the front left TPMS sensor needs to be programmed first. When succesful the horn will sound. Now proceed with the remaining sensors in the following sequence  front right --> rear right --> rear left.

Another much easier way is to change the wheels --> Lock the car and leave it for at least 15 minutes --> Drive the car at a steady speed for at least 20 minutes.

The current Ford models do only store a maximum of 4 TPMS sensors. This means that every time the wheels are changed the TPMS sensors needs to be programmed.

Thanks very much.  It’s going to be Monday before I get these wheels on so I’ll reply as soon as I can after that.

So I’ve got the wheels on, locked the car for 1 hour, reset the TPMS via the steering wheel and went out for a 45min drive.

Haven’t seen a single TPMS warning message.  Was expecting to see something at the start until they had been ‘learned’ but all clear.

I know the warning light does work because I’ve seen it on before.

Would you have expected this?

Yep, that's fine. Sometimes you do sometimes you don't.
