Wheel cleaning

Featured Replies

Hi all

Just wondering what you all use to clean your wheels ? After cleaning the car today and polishing. The car in itself I'm happy with but the wheels just don't seem to come up as well.

Any tips or advice? Have  an alloy wheel brush and don't really want to be taking wheels off.

How have they not come up well? Is there still baked on brake dust/dirt or are they wheels dull? I've seen other Fiesta's with these wheels where they have gone dull, probably due to some harsh chemical being used.

I use Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel and a little brush to work it in. I then polish and wax the whole wheel. The wax makes it very easy to clean with just the car shampoo and a mitt/sponge.  It's a bit easier for me as I swap between summer and winter wheels/tyres and do the above once on each set before I fit them to the car.

So, if you can spend some time applying wax twice a year (I use Mer Wheel Wax, bottle has lasted years, dont know what the current best is), it will help stop brake dust from baking on to the wheels and make your wheels easier to clean.

Thanks for the tips

Yeah I've heard bilt hamber auto wheels are good. It reacts with the fallout making it turn purple. Planning on getting it. I don't have a wheel brush yet but I'm thinking of getting EZ wheel brush. There's also microfiber madness and their microfiber wheel cleaner. With wheel sealants I heard gtechniq C4 wheel armour is good. These sealants can withstand the heat and make it easier to take off dirt when cleaning the wheels

gave my alloys a spruce up during the 2 hours its not rained this week lol

after washing gave the wheel faces a rub down with clay bar then applied a coat of autoglym EGP.

they're as smooth as glass now and shine like the north star..........

:-)
