1.0T EcoBoost engine diferrences between 100,125,140HP

Hello to everyone,

This is my first post to this forum, sorry for mistakes(I'm Spanish), and sorry if I had anything to do previously to post the first post...

I've just bought the new Ford Fiesta ST-Line, with EcoBoost 1.0T engine (100cv/HP), and I was thinking what is the difference between the 100HP, 125HP and 140HP engines, maybe are exactly the same, but only with limitations at the ECU? With different map?

If any of you have information about these engines and also if these are exactly the same as the Mk7 I will be pleased to read you, THANKS!

Also, if you have a Ford fiesta mk8 with 125 or 140HP, and can take a photo of your engine to compare with mine, it will be great.

From what I can remember the 125 to 140 has a different head gasket and remap. I believe the 100 to 125 is just a marketing thing to make the 100 appeal to more. Same engine and turbo (other than the stamps) but different map is all that's different.

125 also has overboost, but under normal driving (ie not foot to the floor everywhere) you wouldn't notice the difference.

Prior to a certain date the 125 and 140 shared a turbo. Now the 100 and 125 share a turbo. 140 has a thicker head gasket. Tune is different between the 3.

If very well might be wrong but, i have come to understand that only map difference is that 125 has overboost enabled, so you have same performance except the X seconds that overboost is working.

I checked various vins in etis by trial an error and i can see this (Pictures Attached). As you can see one engine is listed as Ecoboost 100ps and the other (mine St Line 125ps) listed as Ecoboost 125/140 ps. I dont have the vin of a 140ps variant to check though. At the details both have engine performance level- standand. From this i suppose the 125ps engine is more like the 140 rather than the 100ps. Maybe its exact the same engine. Also i suppose the 140ps variant would have different engine performance level? Maybe someone with a 140 variant could provide his vin to compare.

I am sure i read a topic on the differences on here a long while ago, maybe last summer time.

Did one of the guys say the 100 & 125 were esentially the same other than a remap.

He said something along the lines of different engine, turbo, drive shafts and possibly more, for the 140 as it can be mapped up to 170+,  i don't remember exactly.

Below are the specifications for the three engines (based on the new 2017 3dr model).

I have had the luxury of driving all three of these cars, as well as the older (Mk7/7.5) versions. The step-up in perceived performance between the engines in the new Fiesta is now more proportionate between 100 to 125 and 125 to 140. Previously, the difference between the 100 and 125 was quite obvious and the difference between the 125 and 140 was not as noticeable.

This is simply my opinion, and while the new Fiesta with the 140 PS engine was a brilliant drive, I would opt for the 125 PS version (gosh I am getting old).

Currently have a 125 and a 140 and in my opinion the 140 knocks spots off of the 125. In performance, sounds totally different when accelerating, idling sounds, suspension feels a lot tighter and less bouncy (both cars are the same year),haha even the heater and heated screen seem a lot more efficient.

In the mk7.5 the 140 variant came later on as a special model with stronger engine, tighter suspensions etc. But in the Mk8 both 125 and 140 are the same St-line variant. With same suspension and almost everything. Diffent differential ratio and the engine are the only differences i think.

Ah ok I see. The one in the pic on my avatar is the 140, it is a 17 plate, not sure what MK they are to be honest,  MK7.5?

What MK are the new ones that we are waiting for (the St Line X) are they MK8?

I think there are more differences between 100HP and 125HP, than 125HP and 140HP.

Cause u pay another €1000 extra if u want 125HP, compared to the 100HP.

Okay u get discs instead of drums on the rear, but I don't think those discs are €1000 more expensive

The delta in price difference has little bearing on what physical differences might exist. If they can sell the 125PS version for €1000 more than the 100PS then they will.

i would rather pay 300-400 on a bluefin and remap it.

Okay but if u take the 100HP, u get drums, if u take the 125HP version, u get discs, so I rather have discs than drums

Hi everyone, old thread but thought its worthwhile posting here before i make a new topic

I've just bought a MK7 140hp 1.0 Ecoboost thats a non runner, possibly have to stick an engine in it, would it be possible to buy a 125hp engine and still use the ECU i have now to bring it back up to 140? are all the engines the exact same bar the map and the head gasket? 

If someone can get back to me that'd be brilliant 🙂

Gearbox on the 140 may be different to the 125. Not sure if the 125 engine will fit a 140 gearbox. Driveshafts may also be different, not 100% sure as read it a long time ago.

Ah right okay, would the ECU be compatible with that or would it have to be a 125 ECU as well? bit confused

The 140ps has a cast iron block but the 100ps and 125ps have a aluminum block.

Afaik they're all the same (cast iron) block. According to Ford publicity when the engine was first launched, cast iron was chosen for strength and faster warm up and the weight penalty of the material was cancelled out by the compact dimensions.

as far as I know, the difference between the 100 ps and the 125 ps is the exhaust valves and the turbocharger ( due to higher exhaust temperature ), the 125 ps turbocharger part number ends with GE while the 100 ps one ends with HE , the 140 ps is exactly the same as the 125ps except for a different cylinder head gasket.. all three engines share the same short block with the same part number ( except for the 100 ps mated with the automatic transmission it has a different part number due to the different oil pump with the balancer shaft installed into the short block ) 🙂

140 Has different turbo, cylinder head gasket giving different compression ratio & gear ratio different in  gearbox too.
