Welcome aboard the FOC! Get yourself comfy, take a look for any guides that might tickle your fancy, and join in with the best ranking Ford forum out there! as for the accuracy, this will differ depending on if the car has been disconnected from the battery. it tends to be inaccurate one way or the other though, but as a rough guide, its not too bad!1 point

Ah the good old RFA's. One of my oppos was a first mate. (He's a lazy plonker btw :p)1 point

rear drums last ages. The main thing with those is everytime you remove them to inspect the shoes, is to take the lip off the inner edge of the drum to make it easier to get off again next time. Id expect you to get 50,000 to a drum before its worn. And shoes should last 25,000 atleast. The rear brakes dont actually do a great deal, hence why some cars are still on drums. Its cheaper to make and the stopping power isnt needed.1 point

I would say the rocker cover is weeping a touch there. See if you can nip the four allen key bolts up a tadge. Youll need a 5mm allen key or allen socket. I wouldnt worry too much about it, but when you get it serviced get the gasket changed aswell1 point

It needs both to be done adequately for proper protection. Paint won't protect well on it's own because there's always the problem of uneven coverage, especially on edges and corners, and pinholes and galvanising will corrode in the presence of road salt if unprotected by paint. Cavities also need to be well wax-injected to protect from condensation. I suspect we've passed the high point of manufacturers applying good protection to bodyshells, around the turn of the century, and they're now starting to compete to shave the costs of providing it.1 point

im liking the led tail lights. do they just plug straight in or have you got to change any wires or anything.1 point

Congrats on the new car, I love my Titanium X. We need to see pictures though :P Keeping back £100 is pretty reasonable if the clutch is genuinely shot and they didn't know, it will cost more than that to put right. Dealers normally take on the car in all good faith, so you could probably argue in some ways they should not agree to take it and then keep funds, but at the same time, they are trusting you not to give them a lemon without them knowing. I'm surprised you have drums too, I thought all Focus had discs all round, but as you say, maybe with the 1L engine they don't feel the need. My 2L TDCi is probably considerably heavier!1 point

Yeah being a young attractive female is the worst thing you can be in some garages!! In mine I would guarantee youd get treated like everyone else, but I know what others are like. Its wrong but thats how the world turns. And before the computer diagnosis, we had to find the fault ourselves, repair the parts our selves. Now the whole ethos of a mechanic is plug it in and replace what the computer says. I bet none of the current crop of mechanics would be able to rebuild alternators, starter motors etc like I was taught how to. I feel quite priveleged actually as I was the last generation of real mechanics, now theyre just fitters and if the computer doesnt work they are bang out of luck! Its also a pity I havent got any mates up your way that run car garages, I have one mate in Seaham who runs a motorbike shop, but thats no use to you. HOWEVER, ive just done a small bit of research for you and have come up with this http://vigolanegarage.co.uk/ Its in washington, so dont know how far from you it is, but the reviews ive seen are glowing and its a good run family business. Might be worth giving them a call.1 point

Need more info The light you refer to is your immobiliser system kicking in could be a few reasons, as Kev says it could be a broken earth or it could be down to a faulty immobiliser chip in your key, (try driving with the spare) alternately it could be down to your battery dying (a silver calcide battery dies very strangely, it will work for a few hours, days or weeks then decide to stop) get a drop test done on it, answer is yes/no fine/faulty (need new battery) Buy a decent one but be warned you will be lucky to get 6 years from a silver calcide battery (and your car will NOT work with anything else) The other thing to look at would be your fuel pump but this is unlikely as it would not (normally) trigger your immobiliser circuit. NOTE SOME MANUFACTURERS CALL THESE BATTERIES SILVER OXIDE BUT THEY ARE SAME. Phil1 point

hi aps67, if you are fitting your new stereo in a mk 2 take out the stereo and check the wires on the bottom connector. i too had this problem and it turned out to be that. on your connector you have, top block is power and so on second block is for your speakers and the bottom thin block is for your swc. check these wires, on mine two of them where in the wrong place. just remembered i bookmarked the page, :D http://www.eonon.com/car-dvd-blog/post/13.html give this a read it tells you in better detail, hope it helps. if not worth a try. ;) billybob66 EDIT. just checked and the image has been removed but you will be able to follow the direction given.1 point

Hi Lenny Thanks again, but I don't have any clicking noise and the yellow engine management light was back on within 2 hours. The fault reading says egr frozen. So I am guessing that mine is beyond repair? I have priced them at euros and they are quoting £193 !! Just to check that the egr is supposed to be plugged in? I also notice that sometimes it can go a bit flat, through the gears, then will kick into life I am starting to get a bit annoyed with this car after a week of ownership, but I am determined to get to the bottom of it Thanks for your help and advice John1 point
