  1. Only thing I can think it could be is that it's the instrument panel dimming. Some cars I've know of have an auto dim function as well so the darker it is the more the instrument panel dims to compensate so you can see the road better. I may be way off the mark but that's what it could be.

  2. I'd enquired about getting that done, but the guy I use to do body shop work wanted me to buy new plastic strips as opposed to painting the existing ones. I'm sure he has his reasons for wanting to do this, but it was going to cost over £60 for new strips. I have a couple of minor rust areas to fix, so I felt that they should take priority. And there's the issue of people at my work hitting my car with their door, so the nice shiny strips wouldn't stay perfect for long! I'm going to speak to him again nearer the time, so all subject to change :P

  4. Lucky for me we don't have to do MOT's in SA, sure if the car has been modified beyond recognition they will pull you over and impound your car, but there is no way that they would even know that the car came or didn't come with HID (Xenons) this side of the pond, as long as you have them in projector type lights and they are not neon blue/purple (8000k-12000k). my 6000k lights looks exactly like the new Merc xenon lights, colour wise, sure there are other cars which HID's are whiter, hens why I say above anything between 4000k and 6000k would still be viewed as legal and looks like an OEM part

  5. I try to park where there is a camera even if you pay for parking and i have cctv on the house. I know it don't stop it but it makes them think. I'm not a big fan of steering locks, yet another thing to carry and do when you park but they are good. Most of todays should not need 'the old theft system' but its the world we live in with people like this. Hope all is sorted mate soon.

  8. Unclip it from its mounting and tie it up behind the dash, even better is to put the port into a box and to get hold of another port to replace the original, if it's missing they'll know its not too far away. I also use a disklok as a visual deterent.

  9. Stuff We Find Good or Bad you decide Started this topic for stuff we find as people know I am a bit of a bargain hunter and on my travels of the vast internet I come across loads of good finds like my car cup holder mats and my car key cover and my sill protectors..... .....but amongst the good find I find a lot of stuff like ....wow people buy this Rubbish! So in this topic I would like others to post too to find out if its a good product or a bad one or just post a product you think wow people actually buy this!? Rules are must be Ford or Fiesta related (pictures would be nice too)

  10. Some cars are funny with certain plugs - don't ask me how or why but I've come across it a few times now. The last time being a couple of weeks ago in a fiesta where it wouldn't accept Bosch plugs but NGK were fine! What make were the plugs that caused the misfire? I would go with genuine ford plugs or NGK - nothing fancy just go for regular single electrode. Plugs are cheapest place to start Reading the codes produced by the ecu would be handy but they will probably point to emmisions or misfire so nothing that you don't already know to be honest.

  11. The smell and engine light are most likely due to the car misfiring - could be an issue with plug, leads or the coil.

  13. I can't say I've tried it! Nor have I actually connected it to my phone or tablet, but it was only a little bit more expensive than other reputable tiny USB flash drives and also has USB 3 compatibility, so it was well future-proofed, I thought!

  18. You can spend thousands on security and they will still take it if they really want it, you should take what ever steps you see fit, whether it's a cheap steering wheel lock or locking the port away or spending £600 on a alarm that disables the port. Ignoring the issue and blaming ford when it goes missing isn't the best option.

  21. If a thief really wants a car there is very little that will stop them, however a false O.B.D. port & visible deterrent(s) will help as their main enemy is time & a tracker can locate a car in minutes.
    1 point
  22. Problem with a testier is that it doesn't stop your car getting stolen, hopefully it the thief parks it up shortly after taking it and alls ok but, do you want the car back if it's been trashed about and damaged?

  23. The ESP light will come on if traction control is kicking in (to stop wheel spin under acceleration..). To get ESP activation you really have to be doing something silly, and I've only done that on track. When ESP activates (usually when turning into a corner), you really now about it... 25. Id only use them wash mitts for wheels Phil, ive got one for wheels, but i personally wouldn't use it for paint. Your better off getting a proper lambs wool wash mitt.

  27. Yeah, since posting that it seems the Ford Sat Nav isn't the best. It'd probably be worth keeping if it came with it but to retrofit it, maybe better of with an after market unit if you can cope without the Covers+ functionality for radio, music, etc I think I'm now of the opinion that I'll just stick with what I have and retrofit USB to it, that way I can stick mp3's on a memory stick instead of burning CD's. I was considering getting one of those Chinese units (such as this one http://www.talkford.com/community/topic/232785-acodo-dtg-411-sat-nav) but I'm not sure about the quality of the radio and sound and the fact that they usually run android or wince so take a while to boot up. If you do go down the Ford Sat Nav route, let me know how you get on.

  29. Very glad to hear that it's been found! Hope that the damage is minimal. :) My pals always chuckle at me because I always put the steering lock on my van, no matter where I go, if it's parked up, it's locked. Why? Because if you don't nail something to the floor, some little sh*t will try and nick it. Prevention is better than cure, etc... Just so glad that your car has been found though!!! 30. Saw something similar just outside Leatherhead the other week: A lil' Fiesta had somehow shot across the road and rammed itself halfway up a very steep bank and into some trees! Jeez, the front end was thoroughly mangled. Urgh... Whether it was due to an accident or a numpty driver, I don't know, but I hope the occupants (of both these cars!) weren't badly hurt!! :( Sent from Ye Olde iPadde using Ford OC

  32. Hmm I ordered my 3.5 last week. it comes middle of next week apparently... I am sooo excited. I have a mk2 at the moment but this is the mutts nuts haha! Deep Impact Blue Metallic, Zetec with the 1.0L 125 ecoboost (engine of the year for the last three years) oh and Sync 2 :) I rocked up to the test drive in a Toyota Auris that I was suckered in to test driving. The fella at the dealership felt so sorry for me he chucked in my pro pack and a full tank of fuel on delivery if I test drove the focus and signed up on my return. I did not need any convincing! might have to trade my Yaris in for a Fiesta ST in matching colours now!

  34. I must say, the enclosure if really well made and you can get it from a few sellers on Ebay. I got lucky by ordering from Radio World and it was delivered no problem at all to Ireland for a reasonable postage price. Lenny on the other hand had big difficulties with the same seller and in the end it was not a pleasant experience. He might tell you more himself. Bass Junkies seller has one for £20 more than Radio World. If you want to look at their feedback scores for each and then decide http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Focus-MK2-2004-11-10-25cm-Custom-Car-Subwoofer-Sub-MDF-Box-Bass-Enclosure-/251490215834?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3a8dfc279a With regards to space, that was my main reason for getting the custom sub enclosure. It takes very little space and I have ample room in the boot now for a pram and a whole bunch of other things for the little one. Plus, it's solidly made, the carpet is nice and easy to clean. Depending on the subwoofer you have, check the specs that they need i.e volume for the sub to see if it matches. My JL Audio 10W0V3 specs matches the enclosure very well and the sound quality is very good. Don't expect very loud volumes from it as it isn't ported. If you want to hear quality bass and enjoy the subtleties in the music, then this is highly recommended :)

  36. its an EXTREMELY hard decision to make if your loved pet is suffering.only you can make it m8. ask your vet for the correct advice, i had to make it when my gsd collapsed, she was a rescue dog and we reckon she was around 14 when the deed was done. hardest decision i ever had to make,i cried like a baby a big burly bloke 6'2 and 16 stone blubbing like a big girl. the infection shes got is probably coming from the lack of NO dumps.her body is becoming infected. has the vets checked the anal glands?i know years ago when we had a gsd the vet yanked on its tail and the dog crapped everywhere, bit hard to do with a sbt? good luck bud

  37. I know how you feel. Our previous dog (a Heinz 57) lived to 13 years old (just) & she started being violently sick & couldn't keep food or water down. The vet operated to find out what was causing it & unfortunately it was pancreatic cancer. She spent her 13th birthday very poorly, being nursed by one of the veterinary nurses. We all missed her after she was put to sleep & after a week, we got a new puppy (black labrador X border collie) which is nearly 11 years old now. She has a life long allergy to grass, trees, basically all year round hay fever which she has pills for & has her ears washed out fortnightly. But she is more than a dog to us. My advice is if the dog is really suffering, put them to sleep.

  38. Steven, You will need a torx screwdriver or bit-set - they're commonly available and inexpensive. The filter top then lifts off. The filter can only fit in properly, one way up, so it's straightforward.

  39. I agree this is probably the best and friendliest forum I've been on, although I haven't frequently used any other car forums. It probably helps that 99% of people who drive a Ford and what to participate on this forum are adults, and limiting the number of 12-year-olds interacting on any internet based meeting place is always going to be a good thing lol.

  41. The correct easyfuel funnels for putting in additives or for filling from fuel cans are readily available from Ford dealers for about a fiver. They are designed to fit properly and save wasting additives down the side of your car or on your feet.

  44. Some basic versions of the Focus MK2/MK2.5 did not have remote central locking at all. If your car came with 2 standard keys (no Keyfob) and the car does not respond when it is in programming mode (after the first beep) it seems to me your car does not have remote central locking. On the Focus MK2/MK2.5 the (remote) central locking system is fully controlled by the GEM module fuse box. On the old design GEM module/fuse box (part number starting with 4M5T) there is an external RF receiver mounted on top of the roofliner. On the new design GEM module/fuse box (part number starting with 7M5T)the RF receiver is integrated into the GEM module/fuse box. The part number of the GEM module/fuse box can be found on a sticker on the front of it. If your car does not have remote central locking and has the old design GEM module/fuse box the external RF receiver will be missing in most cases. Installing the external RF receiver and activating the remote functionality in the software of the GEM module/fuse box will be enough to retrofit the remote central locking functionality. If your car does not have remote central locking and has the new design GEM module/fuse box only activating the remote functionality in the software of the GEM module/fuse box will be enough to retrofit the remote central locking functionality. The activation of the remote functionality in the software of the GEM module/fuse box can be done with a modified ELM327 interface and the ELMconfig software.

  45. With the known problems with the map I'll wait a bit before buying the Bluefin. I also talked to our best national remapping specialist and he recommend that I wait until my car has driven between 1860-3100 miles (3000-5000 km) before remapping it so I guess that will be around the same time Superchips got the perfect map ready for our Fiestas :)
