  1. It's called hydro-coating basically it's a big sheet of vinyl wrap that's in a tank of liquid then sprayed with a glue. Then the parts are dipped in on the wrap that sticks to it and gives the effects you have asked for. There's loads of videos on YouTube if you go there that explains it better.

  8. Probably too late... Although it's corrosive, the bigger problem is the lacquer getting soft on hot days (like we're having now), the bird 'dirt' then moulds it and it cools and hardens with an imperfection of the mess. Happened on my Golf, huge !Removed! down the wing on a hot day, I cleaned it that evening but left a huge mark.

  9. Oh! Bird poo is a right killer for a new car which has been painted in water based paints! most if not all cars are painted this way! the old days of a hard lacquer have long gone, so any bird poo should be removed ASAP. I have a small bottle of water & pack of baby wipes in the glove-box for such emergency's

  10. I've got a 10 plate Titanium and the interior never really did anything for me seeing as the silver parts could be seen on other cheaper variants, so decided to fit a few chrome parts and the silver parts dipped in high gloss carbon effect, this was done two years ago now and still look as good as the day I put them back on. The silver clock bezel was also ripped out and replaced with a black & chrome version out of a new Titanium. Chrome isn't liked by many younger drivers but I'm 48 years old and like chrome on the inside of me cars

  11. i have done 3 lately, all 3 have chosen not to replace water pump so parts (timing belt kit and both auxiliary drive belts come to £60. Note that the water pump is not cambelt driven but it is tucked behind it. Labour wise it's 2.8 hours book time so whatever your garage would charge for 3 hours labour.

  18. That's almost certain to be a faulty resistor pack. If you look at the circuit diagram in Ian's post earlier in this thread you can see that the fan speed is controlled by inserting resistance in series with the motor. The highest speed bypasses the resistor pack entirely so if the fan only works in this position it has to be a fault in the pack. The section of resistor between pins 1 and 4 carries the highest current of any of the sections and therefore gets hottest so it's either burnt out or the heat has caused a bad joint in the section.

  21. The oil line to the turbo is fed by the oil pump. The banjo bolts of the oil line contains a strainer. This strainer should be removed and the oil line should be cleaned to prevent future problems. It is considered to be better to feed dirty oil to the turbo than no oil at all (if the strainer is clogged). Next to this you should also inspect the strainer in the vacuum pump. This strainer may also be completely clogged. If the oil was very dirty it is also recommendeable to remove the sump and give it a thorough clean. After all parts mentioned above are completely clean the oil return line from the turbo should be disconnected and put into a suitable container. Next the engine must be started and run at idle. When there is a steady stream of oil coming from the return line the amount of oil must be measured with a cold engine. This amount must be at least 300 ml in 1 minute. Less oil coming from the return line indicates engine damage.

  22. Remove sump and clean or replace oil pump pick up pipe guarantee if you've had to change turbo the engine is totally full of carbon !Removed! deposits. There's a ford tsb about turbo replacement on the 1.6tdci if the turbo failed due to oil starvation then you've basically got a lemon and it'll were killed the new turbo fairly quickly Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

  27. cheers guys job done yeah 85 nm for wheel nuts and 235 nm for hub i know the settings too well lol the drum on the car has been a nighmare. glad to bin it. just to help anyone in the future that migh have the same problem i bought the drum with the bearing fitted from ford parts the drum is matt black and the contact surface where the wheel contacts is silver this is where you put the copper grease to stop corrosion. i have seen on auction sites offering ford parts with drums with bearings fitted there cheap and the drum is just silver and the bearing is just cheese. please do not be tempted to buy one of those it could cost you your life i know thru experience i just mentioned this because everyone on here is a great help and if i can save anyone going thru what i experienced with my bearing disintagrating and my wheel comming off at 40mph.after 4 miles after fitting buy genuine ford parts or go to euro car parts or the scrappies and stay safe thanks guys

  29. It was damn hard to find decent headlights with projectors and drl's in australia (RHD)but for au $499 price was ok and they look ok-http://marsperformance.com.au/Black-LED-DRL-Day-Time-Projector-Head-Lights-Ford-Focus-LW-12-15 real oem was too expensive and same as ordering from china.Bear in mind some come with halogen projectors and an ECE cutoff so hid bulbs are too wild! thus i had to fit Bi-xenon: Mini H1 projectors with low DOT cutoff to run the 5500k bulbs. Some really nice headlights out there for the focus if you are willing to spend the money. Again a simpler/cheaper option is to replace the foglights like Iantt stated(see pic) but a nice set of projector headlights with in built Drl's can't be beat(just money!)

  35. My MK2.5 conversion is almost complete, its been a royal pain in the ar$e, for anyone thinking of doing this mod I strongly suggest you go and buy some aftermarket lamps from Depo, using ford ones are asking for trouble and a lot of wasted time and money. My first lamp went together fine, but my NS lamp was nothing short of a nightmare, so much so I broke 3 headlamps opening up the lens! :( Ford use permaseal to seal the lenses, you need to get the stuff up to about 170c for it to let go of its death grip, the problem is that's the same temperature the plastic housing starts to melt, the slightest touch and itll warp and distort like hot cheese, if you don't get it hot enough then it will crack under the pressure needed to pull it open :( The depo one will pop open with a hair dryer I genuinely am kicking myself for not doing that earlier. Anyhow, they are all wired up with the except of the devil eyes I talked about, ill work on that this weekend. Light output is fantastic, beam pattern is great, I need to tweak the lights a bit to align them properly as they converge but the height is spot on. one thing to note, the Depo headlamp electric levelling motor has a longer range to it than the ford one, meaning if you changing the level to 4, your depo lamp will point down a lot more than the ford one, I have a bucket full of spare headlamp parts now so ill need to change that motor one day. First lamp sorted without bother. This is an OEM Xenon lamp. The two completed lamps, NS is depo OS is a genuine ford. Devil eyes! ill have them wired in shortly. Some reason this photo keeps turning to the left

  37. True but the Council won't pick up the branches that day, so to be on the safe side don't leave them on the kerb or laying by the tree, tell the Council where the cut branches are. Last thing someone needs is a knock on the door saying I've just tripped over these F'ing branches and you get sued.
    1 point
  38. How big is the tree ? Has it been there years ? It may well be protected!! So enquire with local Council or Forestry Commission before anyone cuts any branches off it! My brother cut a big tree down which was lifting up the kerb and was damaging his house! Turns out the old tree had a 'Tree Preservation Order' on it and my brother was took to court and was found guilty and fined, he also had to buy a new oak sapling and replant. Is the tree close by ? Buy a bird scarer! The sonic kind and aim it at the tree. A cover is a good idea but that causes problems in itself as said previously but the cover can also damage the car When the cover flaps & waves in the wind, it brushes the paintwork and over time it will cause matt spots in the paint where it moves in the wind, doesn't happen over night but gradually over a few month's, especially at the wing edges.

  39. Be careful jet washing it, the poo can often have grit and pips in it and the jet wash may scratch it. Better off spray the poo with some APC first to break it down a bit.
    1 point
  40. I was just reading and there are a few theories of what actually does the damage, but the important thing is yes it will damage it, so get it off ASAP. If you can't cut the tress your only other option is a cover, but that'd be a right faff every day.
    1 point
  41. Yes. It damages the lacquer because it is corrosive and will leave ghost marks of where it was, if left on the paintwork for too long. I always get it off my car on the same day if I can.

  46. Welcome to my ongoing project with my 2009 MK7 Fiesta Zetec S. My 'motto' might change in the future, but I believe that "less is more"; I like to make small alterations and modifications to my car that improve its looks, but don't require many hours of labour or a ridiculous amount of money. I aim to provide links, approximate prices (not including postage where applicable), pictures and a short blurb of all the modifications to make life that little bit easier for those who might just be inspired. Here is my car when it was on sale: And more recently: As you can see, it doesn't look too much different, but the following modifications have been made... White Zetec S Rear Inlay £1.99 from DMB This was my first modification. Although it is beginning to peel slightly (I blame the pressure washer), I couldn't resist it to eliminate the red S on my blue car! S Steering Wheel Gel Badge £4.99 from DMB (product is now unavailable) Simply put, every Zetec S Fiesta should come with a badge like this. Passengers have commented on it and not even known it wasn't originally on the car! White Steering Wheel Gel Overlay £3.00~ from gelbadges@gmail.com I wasn't happy that this one came through looking a bit pixelated. Still, from where I sit, it isn't that noticeable and it is a nice touch against the rest of the interior. Lockwood Door Sills £32.99 from Amazon Practical and good looking. What could be better? It also covers up a few scuffs on the driver's side that were on the sill and protects from further ones occurring. Aluminium Sport Pedal Covers £5.00~ from AliExpress Having decided £50+ for official Ford ones was not going to happen, finding these on the forums was too good a deal to miss. Delivery time was reasonable, too. Short Radio Aerial £5.00~ from eBay I don't use the radio in my car, so having a long aerial was not necessary. So, I swapped it for this one, which is much more discrete (but I do still have signal in my area if I did suddenly want the radio after all...) Ford Owners Club Stickers £3.99 from Mufflebox Why not represent the club? Attached on both sides, they make it obvious that I do rather like my car and, no, it is not okay to leave a dent in my car when you park next to it at Tesco... Numberplate LED Bulbs £2.50~ from eBay Every time I unlock my car, I love the white glow that appears at the back. Simply put, this modification easily contends for the best one I've done to my car. LED Panel for the Boot £2.99 from eBay Quite difficult to capture in a photo, but I stuck the LED panel just below the boot catch on the inside of the boot. I ran some wire round from the original boot light to provide the power. Despite being removed and adjusted a couple of times, the self-adhesive back is still going strong. At night, this boot light is simply brilliant. LED Panels for Interior Lighting £5.98 from eBay This required a little bit of rewiring, but nothing too difficult. Instead of a single bulb (and I did try with LEDs), I chose to add two LED panels to my interior lighting. These are brilliant. Enough light finds its way to the back seats and the front is suitably bright and white, also. Front Footwell Lighting Bulb holders: £2.79 from eBay Bulbs: £0.99 from eBay After some wiring extension across the windscreen and down the pillars of the car, I have fitted front footwell lighting. The bulbs I got for this aren't actually very bright. However, for this purpose, I find the brightness is perfect as it is subtle on feet and not blinding instead! LED Reversing Lights £5.99 from eBay I don't know quite what inspired me to get these. Needless to say, they look better when reversing, give out at least as much light and they look cool even when they aren't in use! "De-tangoed" Indicator Bulbs Front: £13.00~ from Amazon Rear: £13.00~ from Amazon Side: £2.99 from eBay I think the side ones, despite being the cheapest, are possibly the best looking! The front ones were a real pain to change, but all of them were worth changing. Whenever I'm behind another Fiesta, the orange indicator bulbs are always too noticeable for my liking! Cool Blue Intense Main Beam and Fog Lights (and LED sidelights!) Main (H1): £12.00~ from Amazon Fog (H11): £27.00~ from Amazon Sidelights: £0.99 from eBay It is hard to capture these as they are so bright! The colour of them is definitely whiter than the standard bulbs and both were fitted without much trouble. The main beam blue bulbs are slightly visible, though the colour goes with my blue car anyway! The fog lights and the full beams on dark nights are both simply brilliant; definitely an improvement. LED sidelights are also necessary and quick to fit. I did have to use some Amazon vouchers to justify the fog lights, though, as they are pretty steep... 6000K H7 HID Kit £12.00~ from AliExpress I was sceptical about fitting HIDs, but the forums suggested these. For the price, I had to have a go and I can say that they work very well. The fitting was okay and the light, spread, etc is really nice. I can't make comparisons against other kits and I know some are sceptical about cheaper kits, but I have run these for a two hour journey and they are still exactly as I fitted them without melting or blowing up, so initial signs are good, right? I also found them less tiring than my previous lights (Osram Nightbreakers, £17.00~ from Amazon) to drive home at one o'clock in the morning on the motorway. White S Stickers £1.00 x2 from DMB I don't know why I got these, other than the fact they were cheap! I just thought I needed to put something on the small front windows and these did the job nicely for only £1.00 each! Climair Wind Deflectors £40.00~ from Ford Parts UK (although I got them from a very kind forum member!) It took a week or so for me to get to like these, and I think then it was actually because of the practical side to them! It is great being able to have the windows down in the warmer months without getting blown constantly in your face, so they really do work well for their designed purpose. The look of them has now got to me and I'm very glad they are now permanently fitted to my car! Mobius Actioncams £55.00 x2~ from Hobbyking (plus about £20~ in extra cables, piggybacks, holders etc.) Unfortunately, this purchase decision followed on from my older sister being in two crashes within the space of a few months. It has literally taken a year (written March 2016) for both of these to be approaching solutions and, knowing they wouldn't be resolved quickly, I wanted to make sure I had a little extra 'protection' of my own. There are a lot of dashcams around these days, some easier to set up than others. I have found these Mobius Actioncams to do exactly what I want; they turn on when my car is on, stay on for a short while when my car is off and continuously loop record everything that goes off in front of me and behind me. The front camera is about as discreet as it can be; the rear camera, held up with Velcro and Blu-Tack (it works!) is in a discreet enough position that it is barely noticeable through the tinted rear windscreen. I'm pleased to say I've only used these to view comical footage or footage of bad drivers, and hope that it stays that way! What is strange is how vulnerable I feel in others' cars when they don't have these fitted... And not really modifications, but... Kenwood KSC-SW11 Underseat Subwoofer £102.99 from Amazon I didn't want a subwoofer that took up half my boot and would never get used to its full potential, so I bought one of these instead. Fitting it took a couple of hours, maybe, and connects to the back of the stereo speaker cables. Wired in through piggyback connectors of the fuse box and hidden under the drivers seat, I have found this has worked brilliantly throughout all the months I've had it now. The car doors no longer vibrate with each beat as the bass is coming out of this, rather than the door speakers! I also get to 'feel' the music as I drive a long - something I might add to the passenger side too one day if I have a spare £100! Kingston 32GB Micro Duo Flash Drive £9.00 from Amazon A very fast and discrete flash drive for storing music on for use in the car. It has two ends; the other connects directly into the Micro-USB sockets on most current smartphones, which is also useful! Last updated 3rd March 2016.

  49. I don't like a certain silver Audi on the roundabout down the road, indicating left, in the leftmost lane, for the next exit. Only he wasn't exiting at all, he was actually using it to overtake the white Honda and red peugeot in the inner lane. The Volvo S6 and I (in the Mk1), were almost taken out as silver Audi drove straight at our off-sides. The resultant swift braking meant Brandy was suddenly propelled forwards off the backseat, or at least her rear end was; her harness and dog restraint was keeping her front end braced, so she dangled Brandy probably loathes silver Audis now. If she had opposable thumbs: tonight she would be making voodoo silver Audi dolls to stick pins in I also don't like, mainly because it slowed down my shop, Tesco has re-arranged the bread and cake aisles again It was not apparent where they'd moved iced buns to, the two Tesco people I asked, were not bakery department people, and didn't know themselves. It took a good 20 minutes of systematically searching cake by cake, scone by scone, loaf by loaf etc., until I found them lurking at the very bottom of the american muffin section. They've started doing that with cheese, but the resealable strip is far too close to the "tear here". So when you do tear there, you rip the resealable strip too making it redundant.
