  1. If I hear Galway Girl once more, not even a oiled up stunning Irish Lady will make me smile The new Gorillaz album is quite good. The Saturnz Barnz video is good and the 360 YouTube version is also fun to watch. Gorillaz are playing down in Margate soon and I will be on duty to support the highway side of things.

  2. Here's the airbox on my RS now fitted with a Revo filter The rubber around the top seals to the bonnet lining. I took the lining out and the induction noise became very noticeable Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk www.tomholroydphotography.co.uk

  4. I will listen to whatever is on the radio (tends to be Radio 1) until I actively don't like something (i.e. Justin Bieber) and then swap over stations. If I could be bothered to sling some of my own choices onto a USB stick then I would probably be listening to anything form Warren G - Regulate to Dua Lipa.

  5. When I've got Pipper with me, I usually drive without anything on. Without her it varies considerably. Yes, indeed, I've found house, techno and speed metal are good if you need to be somewhere at a definite time and haven't really allowed yourself enough. Reggae and trance for that matter, will slow you right down to a crawl, so that even grannies in Nissans will overtake you

  7. The box is taller and does seal with the bonnet lining. the lid (which is all you need really will fit most ford and and some Volvo airboxes. Fits on my mk3 1.6Ecoboost and my other half's mk2.5 1.6 TIVCT and my buddies 1.6 mk3.5 1.6 diesel. (as long as each has the cylinder air filter.) no difference in performance other than louder induction sound for all. Worthwhile upgrade overall I have found. - even if it just makes a little more of a turbo whoosh on boost.

  8. Why does he have Fiesta ST in his Bio too. Honestly if the car is not an ST don't add an ST badge to it. If it's a zetec S or something then sure add the "S" badge but never a ST one.

  13. Hi all, i am new to this forum, but not fords. before my current 2005 focus i had a C Reg Ford escort 1.6i Cabriolet, Metallic blue with a white roof. it was the best car i ever had, simple to fix and drove like a beauty. I was 18 at the time and the insurance killed my finances so i had to sell her. the new owner had it for about 48 hours and wrapped her around a tree. Id give anything to have that car back now. I have had my focus for about 2 months and in that time i have had nothing but issues with it. the cat was coming away from the exhaust, the middle rubbers and bracket had come off the exhaust (before i got the car) and this caused the cat to come away with all the knocking. the front wishbone replaced and a few other bits which i cant remember at the moment. the latest was a few weeks ago, the heating pipe coming into the car had a split the 'O' ring (the one just above the clutch pedal), so the foot well was drenched in water. Luckily enough i am with the AA and they covered the cost of fixing it and all i had to pay was £35. i am now hoping all goes well now as i am off to Ireland in a few weeks and i will be driving. In any case thanks for reading and i hope to get to know some of you. thanks Scott

  14. I've been told the Zetec and Titanium's will be arriving in dealers in July, I'd guess the ST line will be a few months after maybe. Perhaps even early autumn due to summer shutdown. But I'd expect you to be able to order the ST line by the time the Zetec and Titanium's are in dealers.

  15. Thanks for that Peter. I will have a good thorough read tomorrow and come back with any questions. I got the reg today so will look it up when i get a minute and clarify the specific engine. I have a multimeter so should be able to rule the alternator out.

  17. You only mentioned the roof in your OP. My point was just that resprays can happen before it even reaches you and you'd never know. I could find something wrong with every new car from the factory. You just need to weigh up whether or not you are happy with the fix they are offering and how long it will take to get another car. If you're not happy reject it and try again with another.

  20. Apologies for not answering sooner. Yes, the work that was done cured the problem, and the car has run right as rain ever since! Expensive, but saved us getting rid of the car.

  21. Heavy rock from the 70s/80s AC/DC, Motorhead, Black Sabbath etc etc and depending on the mood some Pink Floyd. Anyone notice the difference different music affects your driving style? Bob Marley's 3 Little Birds came on the radio the other day on the way home from work and I cranked it up and after a couple of minutes I was down to 20mph(in a 30)

  22. It was easier on Fiesta's, but I'm not going to post publicly why. Still easy on any keyless car, they just try and hack the OBD quickly while the alarm is going off, then shut it up. Hence why at least moving it is a good step as the attention from a sounding alarm is usually enough to put them off trying to find it. Also, unclipping the OBD port from its holder and tucking or tying it out of the way won't affect your warranty. Just remember to temporarily put it back come service time so they can plug in their equipment.

  27. yeah, there is a small outline on the bonnet insulation where it touches, I'm not sure it would seal up if you didn't have the insulation though.

  28. The RS airbox lid is taller on the Mk3, does that seal actually touch the bonnet?

  29. As above, but don't leave the park light on as it drains the battery pretty quickly.

  30. Ahh so that's the standard air box been cut to the same shape as the RS one, and some rubber moulding glued on top, very ingenious. What filter is it ? Looks like a green cotton one. Don't know if I could get away with that, as I've now fitted bonnet vents, I'll have to see where the the vent on that side is in relation to the air box, don't want moisture and crap getting in there, although saying that, that's what's on the RS.

  31. Push in and turn to the left you will get parking lights (basically your sidelights with no warning buzzer).

  32. Im all for a 'rep' bit even then, don't put the badge on it unless it literally is an ST that's been swapped to the other chassis Somebody expecting to 'race' your 'St look' zetec S front end car will get a nice surprise when they pull away in first gear

  33. I am 99% sure the OBDii module is a "virtual" module, that is created, probably inside the pcm, for full compatibility with the OBDii international standards, which is a legal requirement. It holds copies of the standard OBDii DTCs and other info, which standard OBD tools can access. The pcm itself, can have these standardised DTCs & PIDs, plus any amount of manufacturer specific stuff. When using a tool like Forscan, which can access almost all Ford stuff, it does not really matter, as far as I know. I do not think it says anywhere if it is the Ti-VCT, or the standard non-VCT 1.6. It makes a difference, the VCT engine has two camshaft sensors (the camshafts are independently adjustable), the non-VCT engine only has one sensor. I can not find a picture of it in situ, they are usually relatively easy to get at, on the Ti-VCT the CMP (camshaft position sensor) connectors have to be removed before the camcover can be removed, so must be outside this cover. If it is the Ti-VCT, I would suspect the CMPs less, as I suspect if one of these failed, the pcm would know, by comparing it to the other CMP, and flag up a different error. Whether the wiring is easy to fix depends what is wrong. You may be lucky and a squirt of contact cleaner will get it working, at least for a while. Or it may need a section of wiring loom replaced. The connectors at the PCM end are usually protected by a tamper-proof cover, that needs a headless bolt to be drilled out. Even with those 3 DTCs in the IC, I think engine sensor or sensor wiring problems are most likely. There would usually be a lot more data errors from other modules if there was a CANbus problem, like the classic 2006 Focus IC problem. So keep scanning if the car is being used or even just started, to see if anything else pops up.

  35. Whenever I have thoroughly tested for leaks, we use nitrogen and make sure it holds pressure, therefore any leaks doesn't harm anything. We then use leak detection spray (just soapy water) to see any bubbles indicating a nitrogen leak. However I have never re-gassed anything on a car, just normal AC units. As you said, I doubt the garage would've over/under gassed it. The refrigerant gets weighed in. As I said in my first post, refrigerant doesn't just vanish. The AC system must be closed so that the refrigerant cant escape into the atmosphere as it's so damaging (greenhouse gasses etc.). The compressor has probably siezed as there was no lubrication as there was no refrigerant in the system due to a leak, however small it might be. Chances are you tested it just after they gassed it, therefore most of it still in the system and holding pressure so turned on. Give it a few weeks and it will be even weaker at removing heat than it is now.

  37. I used to have a Granada Scorpio 4x4 and the brake pads had sensors in them. When they needed changing a light came on on the dashboard. At a service, Ford main dealer insisted the pads needed changing and I pointed out that the light wasn't on so I didn't have them changed. The light came on two years later. I'm a retired police driver so I am very light on the brakes.

  39. I think Banana Co is more saying that whilst the water may be coming in via the brake pedal it perhaps shouldn't be going near that point at all and this being because it should be taking some other route instead.

  41. On your wheel size query, I have a ST Line X with 19" wheels. I had the use of 2 Titanium Mondeo courtesy cars before my ST X with 18's Ive not noticed any difference in road noise or ride comfort. The car looks amazing in the 19" wheels. Go for it I say. And the Sync 3 is a huge difference on the Sync 2. My Edge had the 2, seems a lot of folk waited for the release of 3 before buying. Enjoy your ST X. What options did you go for if any?

  42. The piston heads post lasts 20 pages, there is even a money saving expert post on it. Something I found there was a recall on a water pipe. Does appear that these small engines are over clocked at higher temperatures. I would probably just stick with my mk1 as these cars can do over 160 000 miles on petrol. Though if I had a new ecoboast I would not take any chances and I would change the water coolant every year.

  46. To be fair, it might have gapping wide loop holes in it but it does keep most of the really dangerous stuff off the road. in Oz they don't have an MOT and some of the things on the road are death traps. Personally, I think your right, we shouldn't have a situation where an under shield can hide things and they cant take it off, but equally, I think the MOT should concentrate on the important things, get back to basics, the danger is that more and more gets added to the test which adds more work to the garage which potentially means stuff gets over looked. I see cars and lorries driving about that look like a strong gust of wind will send panels flying off it yet a perfectly good car can fail because a child seat is in the back. IMHO, they have been bolting on additions to the test for decades, its time to scrap it and start anew.

  49. I'm sure it uses this latter method. If the injectors have been calibrated to the vehicle it will know to a reasonable degree of accuracy the rate of fuel flow through each injector, so using the timings it can get a good estimate of the fuel delivered. It probably also factors in the fuel temperature since that affects its density. As I posted in another thread I recently carried out a brim-to-brim test on my 1.0 Ecoboost over 300-odd miles and got a result of 44.98 mpg. The ECU is currently reporting 44.8 mpg so it looks as if the technology can be surprisingly accurate.
