  1. Set it to 31/12/2013 23:59 then wait a minute until it goes to 01/01/2014 then you can set the date and correct time past that point. It's a strange quirk in the system. Sent from my SM-G965F (S9+)

  4. Can't believe this guy is so worried, he must be a nervous wreak with all this worry in his life. If your that stressed don't buy or lease the car or anything else of any value. The car covered by insurance, if it gets nicked or broken into or damaged it's covered, you don't lose out, just a bit of hassle to sort it out afterwards. It's just a car, there's more important things in life to worry about. 🤯 P.S. I would also recommend sleeping with the keys under your pillow just in case the car thief sneaks upstairs and nicks your keys off the bedside cabinet. 😂

  5. I'm hoping someone can help a newbie please? My clock was a few minutes slow so I decided to adjust it using the steering column stalk and the menu in the instrument cowl. However, now I can't get it to go past the year 2013! I scroll through and get to 2013 then increment up and the year returns to 2003 and goes through the same sequence over and over! I'm sure it was on 2019 when I started. 😳 What could I have done please? Thanks in advance

  6. Over the last 4 days I have begun to notice a clunk when I move up gears, especially 2 to 3 and 3 to 4. Also when I change down gears, 4 to 3, 3 to 2, and 2 to 1 (especially). Took me a while to figure out what was going on, but I'm 90% sure that it's excessive engine movement. I opened the bonnet and had someone jerk the car forward and back with it in gear, and the engine moves quite a bit in each direction - kind of in a circular motion. So what I am deducting from this is that the 2 side engine mounts are doing their job, but the bottom dogbone mount is either broken or it has a lot of play in it. There is a small amount of a vibration rattle when it is started cold, but that disappears when it warms up. Anyone got any experience of these mounts failing? Are they an expensive fix?

  8. Depends what's wrong with it. You need to identify which side is causing this first

  9. Will it hold on 10 clicks? If it does stick your head under and look if you can see which side the cable has pulled the caliper lever arm more. Should be pretty obvious. Then on flat ground look again with handbrake off and see if both caliper lever arms are fully off. If not you may have a sticking cable. Under no circumstances tighten the cable at the handbrake lever inside

  10. yes, I reckon it is failing and will split

  11. it should not need the handbrake cable adjuster moving, if you did that, it would just be covering up the real problem. sounds like one of the adjusters in the caliper is not working right. I saw something on here recently about this. it said with the handbrake pulled right up have a look at the calipers and see if the position of the arm that the cable pulls on is pulled much further round on one caliper compared to the other. That will show which side is playing up.

  18. That is a very good point...they should probably make this clearer when declaring mods! No need to splice any wiring with a piggyback fuse so it's a removable item like a standalone sat nav imo. I'd advise against declaring a dashcam in case it incriminates you lol. But yeah, some insurers really are that picky unfortunately. I've had the opposite experience, with some wanting to add ridiculous amounts to the premium and even totally refusing to cover certain mods. One of which was bigger brakes...because they will of course make the car less safe... Back in the day I ended up running with about half the mods declared for a while, wasn't fussed about being paid out if I crashed, I wouldn't claim on my own at the time anyway, but was always worried about getting pulled by police. Saw it quite often at local meets & cruises where cops would pull cars and phone the insurers to check all mods were declared, cars would usually then get seized and either impounded or crushed. Fair enough if the mods were unsafe (cut springs or poorly rolled arches etc) but the majority weren't. Insurance is the main reason I don't mod cars anymore.

  22. Seriously, how are you going to sleep at night once you have this car? My Focus is the same engine as the Fiesta ST, I've had a Mondeo ST, Astra VXR, plus other sports models and I've never added any additional security. If it gets stolen I will claim on my insurance. Life is stressful enough without worrying about a car. Are you not worried about invalidating your Ford warranty too if you move the port or have third parties adding devices to it?

  23. Electric fords are on there way, but ford are slow off the mark compared to other manufacturers. Think They will drop some models at the same time as introduce electric cars. We will end up with fiesta , focus, and SUV. Then electric variants .

  24. A friend had a Suzuki Vitara she bought 2nd hand. There was a crash and she made an insurance claim. It had alloy wheels on which she had not declared. She did not know they were not standard on the car. She was a 40 year old lady with young children and someone who would be considered a normal respectable person by an insurance company. The insurance company caused a lot of trouble over the wheels but did eventually pay. When you agree the insurance it is based on your best knowledge and belief - or something like that. Your are not guaranteeing it is 100%. ie. if it is something you did not suspect or could not reasonably have been expected to know about then you should be OK. She bought another Vitara and asked me to have a look to see if there was anything that I thought was non-standard,. I couldn't see anything - this one had plain steel wheels on. But if you don't know about all the different models/versions how can you be sure. Dealer fitted options is even more of a problem area.

  26. That's the petrol test. Diesels are only tested on smoke levels. Just to give you some idea of this, the level for a MK3 1.6 TDCi is 0.55. The level for a MK2 pfl is 3.0. He'd have to have a major boost leak to fail on a car that old...

  27. As Albert said, there was a dodgy batch of injectors across the whole 1.8TDCI range, sometime in 2008. Though if it has not shown up by now on this car, then it may well be ok. The thread on this started in 2014, peaked about 2016, and has gone quiet lately. The thread is: The lower timing chain was changed to a belt around 2007. Unlike the chain, this is a service item, but it seems a lot of garages may not be aware of it, and it has been missed out in some cases, with bad results. It is not a problem if it is changed at sensible intervals. It is possible to retro fit a chain in place of the belt. See what the service history says if there is any. Otherwise a full timing belt (upper and lower) change would be a good precaution. I think the 1.8TDCI Focus is a very good car. The 1.8TDCI is generally a more robust and longer lasting engine than the 1.6TDCI with its additive based DPF system and some tendency to carbon build up. My 1.8 is well over 170k miles now, oil change once a year. It still has low oil consumption, and is a very nice car to drive.

  28. I keep checking the MOT online history for my old one, it passed MOT with me every time but I got rid before the MOT changed. Will be interested to see if it passes this time... It's currently up fo sale so looks like the current owner may have decided against putting in for the test.

  29. Alright, so back again. The above post did not solve my problem, albeit it did alleviate the symptoms for a while. Since then I have replaced the whole housing, so as to make sure that none of the actuators or sensors were at fault, however the problem persisted. I also cleaned the DPF to no avail, and somewhere along the way I purchased Torque Pro (all in all a very worthwhile purchase), which revealed further fault codes which did not show up in the free version, namely P0089, P0404 and P1180, these indicating that there is something wrong with the EGR valve. So i located the EGR valve in accordande with this clip (it located behind the engine to the right, just behind the fuel filter. It's fairly accessible, if you just remove the plastic top cover) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NC-b-e6fUrU And removed the electrical unit fastened with three torx bolts as according to this image and checked the state of it, as described in this video (all in all, it should run smoothly, not stick or rotate jerkily) DISCLAIMER: NOTE WHICH WAY OT WAS WHEN REMOVED SO THAT YOU ASSEMBLE IT CORRECTLY. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWqjHsLBY0k My valve motor behaved as the broken one, so I ordered a new complete valve. To remove the whole valve, just remove the two bolts shown by pink arrows in this image and open the clip by sticking a flat head screwdriver where the green arrow shows and twist it gently. It should pop open fairly easily. To install the new EGR , stick the topmost bolt through the EGR valve and the seal, rotate it slightly away from the pipe where the clip was and fasten the bolt slightly. Now you can rotate the EGR into place so the the pipes interlock (DON'T FORGET TO ADD THE CLIP ON THE PIPE BEFORE ROTATING INTO PLACE), then fiddle the seal into place for the second bolt and fasten both. Reclosing the clip is a bit fiddly, but I used a pair of polygrip pliers to close the clip and a screwdriver to push down on top of it to make it lock. I've now driven for about 200km with no fault codes stored in the ECU, which is a lot more than anytime before. And in contrast to my previous post I've actually checked the fault codes, not just the check engine light. Was a bit fiddly, since P024f doesn't directly imply that the EGR is at fault. So, hopefully this solves the problem, I'll report back if it doesn't.

  31. Would just like to say a big thank you to Paul for installing CC on my Ford Focus 1.5 TDCi, today. Best £25 I've spent for along time, everything went smoothly, I was apprehensive about messing with my car, but he sure knows his stuff. Thanks again, mate.

  32. I think your Ford battery uses SAE an American based system although international and the Bosh Is probably EN (European Normal) so the specification amp/hours and cold crank amps on the battery labels are also going to be different.Generally the larger the battery the higher the reserve capacity.

  33. Sounds like one of your calipers requires replacement. Next time it ratchets all the way up , leave the handbrake on and check under car and see which caliper arm the cable has pulled up the most. That will be the caliper to change. Sometimes you can replicate the fault just by repeated handbrake operation, may take quite a few goes.

  34. No, higher Ah mean alternator or battery charger going to take longer to fully charge your battery. How long depend on the battery state of charge (or discharge). No, you would not be able to fit the holding bracket, therefore use 175 mm high.

  38. CASE CLOSED! I turned my attention to the TPS. Removed it to see if it needed cleaning etc but when it was off it was obvious that it is a sealed unit with no access to the internal parts so I just put it back and everything is now fine! Must be about to fail so I am replacing it. What a pain, something so small causing me such a headache. I suppose we live and learn. Many thanks to all who offered advice, it was much appreciated.

  39. I don't know what all the fuss is about. There is only one clutch kit. The kit comprises a clutch assembly and a new bolt. Plus a revised torque setting for the bolt. The special tool mentioned is only necessary if, after the new clutch is fitted, the air gap needs adjusting, most don't. Additionally, if the clutch does come off the front of the compressor it's not a recovery scenario as the compressor pulley is still firmly attached to the compressor. Some dealers are experts at making things seem much worse than they really are. H

  40. Certainly seems to be rare on a 2007 model. Every time I go to a supermarket car park I'm looking out for similar handles, but yet to see the lock button on another Focus. Gadgets and gizmos are great, until they brake! 🙁

  43. You could try moving the pads off the disk by slowly/gently prying them off the disk with a large flat blade screwdriver so the disk runs freely, put the wheel back on (to hold the disk square and tight) then spin the wheel again. After you have retested make sure you depress the brake pedal a few times before driving so you push the pads back into contact with the disk! If the bearings on its way out you’ll hear a roughness/rumble when you rotate the wheel.

  46. Could possibly be a bearing starting to fail? Few months back I had a noise on turning right and on occasion also had stearing wheel wobble on braking. The fact I had the noise turning right (very faint like driving over rumble strip) and with the weight of the car being thrown left guessed that the left hand wheel bearing was on its way out. Stef123 changed out the wheel hub for me which turned out to be ‘shot’ and only really detectable when he got the hub off. I also saw my disk on that side had strange marking/glazing on it (like yours in your original post) which I’m assuming was caused by the slight wobble caused by the bearing. Have you jacked the front wheels up and spun them by hand to see if there is any noise coming from the bearing?

  47. As stated, Ford won't take your word on codes and will insist on doing their own diagnostics (no profit for them else). I'd be leaning towards the EGR valve sticking open and allowing too much exhaust gas back into the system and choking the engine.
    1 point
  48. Ford will always say they aren't their codes because THEY want to run a diagnostic on it THEMSELVES. Will prob charge you about 80 notes for the pleasure to.
