Generally dislike Christmas in all regards. I tend to work every christmas and new year so don't tend to get much enjoyment out of the whole season. Wife works it too so we tend to skip most of it. May indulge with a couple of glasses of port and a decent cigar when time allows. We'll be looking at a roast turkey dinner some time mid January but that's about it tbh. Things I don't like - the gronk at Tescos who hit my offside wing mirror with his trolley while I was stationary/parked at Tescos. I was sitting inside the car (googling something, was right about to leave), and as I looked up I saw him speeding through my car and the car next to me with his trolley, he didn't even attempt to slow down, and bang. Idiot didn't even stop to apologise or check if there was any damage and kept walking as if nothing had happened, so I blasted the horn which made him stop in his tracks. Got out and gave him a mouthful, and he finally apologised, I checked for damage (luckily there was none). Guess what car he was driving too? A typical ***** car (brand new white Audi S3).2 points

All in all, a very solid car. Points to note; Have a drive and see if you feel any vibration up front, the driveshafts are a known weaker area on the ST 5-pots and it's not down to design, it's just how they're driven - Most owners to pull after pull and it stresses the shafts because of the sheer power going through them. Not a massive job, but one to check. Seals - The focus is known generally to be prone to oil leaks from the driveshaft seals. Don't worry, it's an easy job and only a £3-5 part. Itll take an indie garage 30 mins to swap out and a little extra for gearbox fluid but it's not a big job. Be sure to take a quick look either side and you'll see straight away if theres any remenance of oil on the insides of the shafts. If you see it, ask about it - Last thing you want is a car where that bit has been neglected and the fluid runs out. Not cheap but they leak that little out overall it's a fair one to miss. Take a test drive and look for stiffness in the gears, especially 1st and reverse. As said, clutch & timing kit - Standard on any car north of 70k really. Look for money off a good example and do it yourself for peace of mind. It's a bit of a pain, but getting a good car with the chance for you to choose the clutch kit is a bonus really. (Just for the love of Christ don't pick Transmech!) Usual signs of people cheating out on these are non matching/very budget tyres, very worn brakes and generally those that try show off and take you on the test drive and just hammer it to make you smile. Be wary with those, a decent owner will look after the car where they can. Always check the MOT history online as well to see if there are any common problems that don't get fixed, and if anything does come up, did it get fixed and stay fixed. (Theres a few apps to make things a bit simpler for that). Expect some degree of kerb rash, especially on the N/S/F - They're exposed wheels so it's understandable somewhat. You can usually tell abuse vs unlucky really. Paintwork, check the arches. Especially the rear. The STs had a bit of an issue with the rear bumper rubbing up on the arches and wearing the paint enough for water to get under it. Not a worry if caught, but something to look for. It's a second hand ~10yr+ old car at the end of the day, you'll know an honest car from one that's dressed up for the show. As long as it runs right and feels good then I wouldn't worry too much. Just keep note of your usual serviceable and you'll be reet! Nothing really to worry, but just general Focus/ST ownership advice really! Hope that helps!2 points

Engine wise pretty bulletproof, but as Tom says there will be niggles that will we need doing and whilst block mod isn’t such a worry if pushing stock power, clutch and cam belt are a must really.2 points

I'd want to make sure any 12 year old/100k ST had had the block mod done, the cambelt done and the clutch done personally. If you can push the budget up to a facelift model they're better specced, nicer inside and as a result, hold value better too. At that age and mileage you've got to expect a few minor niggles and cosmetic issues but over all they're pretty reliable.2 points

Sync is the Ford connectivity system. The Sync system interacts with the radio and controls all connectivity (phone, USB, Voicecontrol, etc.). On the Focus MK3 SYNC 1.0 was introduced in the 2nd half of 2012. The Sync 1.0 system replaced the old Bluetooth / Voicecontrol system. Early 2014 the Sync 1.0 system was replaced by the further developed Sync 1.1 system. When the Focus MK3.5 was introduced Ford also introduced the Sync 2 system which has a 7 Inch touchscreen. The Sync 2 system is basically the European version of the My Ford Touch system that was used in the USA since 2011. In 2016 the Sync 2 system was replaced by the more advanced Sync 3 system. Sync 4 has been announced and is expected to be released within a few months.2 points

Congratulations on the new car; I look forward to seeing pictures. I do like having Spotify on my phone which I can also listen to in the car which is like a sound shield against Christmas music, I also like living on the edge of town where I don't see much Christmas lights on my commute to/from work I also like working in a chemical plant where everyone wears a uniform so theres no Christmas jumpers; I'm also in a lucky position where I'm working six days per week; spend the rest of my spare time sleeping; I normally like Christmas but it just isn't happening for me this year; having just spent €2.5k on a Dell XPS8930 computer & another €500 on desk which was all for education not for Christmas, followed by an unforeseen dentist bill of €1.3k and for me to acknowledge it when I haven't got the funds to get caught up in the hype would only increase my depression. I'm finished work on the 17th working every day including sundays between now and then, thankfully then having done all those hours I'll have €26.00 left for myself on Christmas day but the house will be warm, Mortgageand other bill's paid, food on the table and the kids will have all they asked for, That's Christmas for me, if only the wife was on the same planet 😂 I'm getting some funny expectations via WhatsApp from her recently; such as meet me in the Opticians after work with your bank Card as "our eldest" has an appointment 🙆♂️I'm like "I have a budget" google "budget" for me when you get a minute you mad "James blunt"2 points

Thank you very much, didn't get any notification of replies so apologies for the late repsonse. I have found one just need to go and look at it, just over 100K on it, cambelt and waterpump done at 98K, its a 2.5 focus 2007, bit of lacquer peel on the bonnet but I will just get the whole bonnet resprayed, will be a lot easier than trying to chase the peel. There is a little bit of rust where the rear bumper meets the car but my sons focus with a similar bodykit has the same type of thing, par the course I imagine, its not rotten by any means and looks like its been treated. I was never going to get a showwinner I guess. It has a full service history, logbook check shows last owner had the car 4 years and only 3 owners over the lifetime of the car which is a bonus. I was looking at another car that had 10 owners 😕 I will take a look at the seals, I know a CV boot needs to be done, not the same thing obviously.1 point

You can lock the doors manually from inside the car using the buttons in front of the drivers door handle. Afaik the doors will not lock automatically at say, 5mph, which is what I assume you mean? I think some members have found ways to enable it using Forscan. See the "Mk 8 Forscan chat" thread.1 point

Tyre size 225-40-18 is a perfect alternative for the original 235-40-18 tyres. 225-40-18 also makes it possible to remove the steering rack limiter (which basically only consists of 2 plastic U-shaped washers) without the risk of rubbing. If you want to install 17 Inch wheels the prescribed tyre size is 215-50-17 which is also a not a very common (and as a result of this expensive) tyre size.1 point

Yep, looks like it! In England we pay in 3 bands - band 1 (checkup) £22.70, band 2 (fillings etc) £62.10, band 3 (horrific stuff) £269.30. In Scotland apparently the check up is free then you pay a percentage of the treatment.1 point

Reading what people have had to do to update the navigation maps, it just doesn't look like it's worth the hassle. Why did Ford make it so complicated? Real stupid.1 point

Must admit that all the extra wages for doing the public holidays are nice. Other thing I tend to do is try to get as many guys with young families off on leave over the holidays so I don't mind pulling my fair share of extra duties to facilitate that. Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk1 point

Found the method to reset the battery monitoring system on the Fiesta MK8. 1. Turn on ignition (not engine) 2. Ensure headlights are set to on 3. flash the high beam five times 4. press the brake pedal 3 times 5. wait for the battery light to flash on the dash. 6. Turn off then restart. This has fixed auto stop/start that wasn’t working for three months on an 18 month old MK8 st-line. Working perfectly now. 👍1 point

Thanks Gary. It's not bad enough (hopefully) to trouble my insurance glass cover yet - I had a couple of chips repaired on my A3 which weren't a great success. Probably brought it upon myself by thinking "Hey, I've had this car nearly 2 years and no screen chips yet"😀 It's done well by comparison to some I've had - by this stage my earlier A4 had 3 professional screen chip repairs, then a replacement screen. Not to mention an expensive body repair when a flying bolt took a chunk out of the screen pillar, plus 2 wheel arch repairs from supermarket bashes, the second one in exactly the same place, a few days after I'd got the car back from the first wheel arch repair. Your scratches sound a bit odd though - could some bits of grit etc have got trapped under there and then flown out? The spontaneous increase in pressure theory is intriguing but probably unlikely, I think.😀 I do sympathise with your frustration with that particular car, but leaving your key unprotected will probably guarantee it won't get stolen!1 point

I don't like Christmas cards. I don't like sending them (the time it takes to write them all), and I don't like receiving them (every flat surface in the house gets covered and you can't put anything down). Mrs. TimST2 says we have to though1 point

Pretty sure I've read somewhere that many old Fords are suffering from failure of the heated screen, where the electrical connections hook up to the screen these parts are and become weak and it only takes one to break and the screen nolonger works.1 point

I went to the Mountainous inland part of Norway last Feb, got to -15 and was told that was mild for the time of year. Going again for New Year, anything the UK throws at me now always feel quite tropical in comparison. 😂 That said, I do enjoy having a heated steering wheel again, for the UK winters.1 point

Hello All I don't know if this will fix your problem but so far it has resolved mine. I have a 2015 fusion Se with a 1.5 and purchased the car and drove it away. Shortly after loading it on the trailer the car refused to crank All the dash lights came on as they should but the engine refused to crank. I let it set, came back and it started right up. I drove it for about a day and jumped in it the next morning started right up no issues, parked it and it again refused to start.. Well to make a long story short I finally broke down and to it to my local ford dealer. The mechanic did the wiring continuity test and it had a P06e9 code diagnosing the ECM as the issue. They replaced the ECM and it started right up leading them to believe the issue was solved until the problem returned after a day or so of them running it. To come to the conclusion the Leroy found a wire in the harness in the ECM are that was making an intermittent connection. He fixed that wire in the connector and WALLLA problem fixed, starts every time. Hope this helps someone out there, take a look at the wire harnesses down by the PCM for a loose wire in the connectors.1 point

I've seen a break down firm engineer try and use the new generation pack (small pack designed to boost the output momentarily) and flatten the battery. These are designed to take what's in the battery, and by releasing it back to the batter in a short burst, give a higher voltage at the moment you're cranking over. The engineer seemed to think it could re-charge a battery, so magically create energy.1 point
