You guys with all your technical knowledge!,π (Well done) Depressing when the rest have to wait for Ford to pull its finger out,!3 points

one is budget rubbish that kind of allows the wheel to move in some vague relationship to the road the higher spec models get suspension,2 points

Do like my daughter came round to see me today, only seen her twice since lockdown . Downside she wanted service on car and a front wing replacing while she was here Good job I got nothing else to do this morning . Bought the wing and got it painted at work f.o.c since march and been kicking around in shed. Kids usually only come round when they want something. Next will be my son, his Β£800 first car has finally decided it's time for the scrapyard after 2 1/2 yrs cheap motoring.2 points

When I first read your post I too thought that can't be right, but it actually makes sense as a safety feature. In it's way it is saying you haven't turned the engine off, don't get out the car.1 point

Before I saw this thread I wasn't aware of auto-hold, in my defence I picked my car up on the first day of lockdown so it hasn't been used all that much and I hadn't been told about it. Turned it on today and I'm struggling to see how people have been confused by it. When I got home & pulled up on the drive, stopped, auto-hold activated, engine still running, unclipped the seat belt & it triggered the handbrake to activate. Mine's a manual gearbox. Useful little feature.1 point

I've never had any issue with S/S and AH, because stop start never $@%Β£ing works π1 point

I'm 60 and have a secondary school education, I worked out how to use auto-hold by the second junction of picking up the car. Press the button on the centre console ( that's the thing to your left between the seats) a little light in the switch will eliminate saying ON Stop the car by pressing down on brake peddle, when stopped press a little harder and a green light will come on in the driver display Press the Accelerator peddle to go (THE END)1 point

I had the ABS light on the Ranger come on not long before I got rid of it. My cheap plug in scanner told me it was a wheel speed sensor but no indication which one. Forscan did the trick though. And no, Iβm not boosting up to Orkney!1 point

Hi, just purchased a 2006 Mondeo 2.2TDCi ST. Only 1 owner from new, yes 1 owner! 81,000 miles with full service history and in the must have Performance Blue. The condition is outstanding, nearly new condition and certainly could be easily made concorse. My question is to the more in the know Ford enthusiasts, is this a keeper? Will this increase in value if tucked away and loved. Would appreciate any comments. Mike1 point

If you do have to eventually have the cat replaced, don't let the garage keep the cat as they'll be rubbing their hands, so keep it yourself and take it to a scrap recycling yard that buys cat's, be surprised how much it's worth, son works in such a yard and the cat's that are took in an weighed is shocking, what's even more shocking is most of the cat's are fine and garages rip customers off by telling them their cat is shot, when it's not! This scam has been going off for a few years now, it's a win/win with the garage who falsely tell you the cat is tattered when it's not, I mean how can Mr. Average Motorist say it's not tattered, they just trust the garage but what they don't realise is that they are being ripped off.1 point

You won't find it. When i bought my car 18 months ago the dealer showed me how the handbrake worked ,in particular the auto feature and told me you wont find this in the handbook. There is a very vague reference to it though for automatics.1 point

Thanks for all your comments. I put down a deposit on this one today! 2017 17 plate Titanium 210PS w/ Lux Pack. Its done 38k miles and had its 36k gearbox service done and all recalls (thanks for the tip on these!) Looks in really good shape and drives nice. Β£19,800, dealer wouldn't budge on price unfortunately but I managed to squeeze a full tank of diesel out of them π @undercoveredge I checked the tax on https://cartaxcheck.co.uk/ and it doesn't mention about the additional surcharge so I checked a Vignale edge and it said about the Β£320 extra so I guess my one fell under the threshold luckily! But thanks for letting me know otherwise it can be an additional cost that people may not necessarily budget for. Thanks again everyone for all your help!1 point

If there really was no difference why keep the IRS in the Vignale , Active and estate cars?1 point

I read a Focus vs Leon article yesterday that mentioned the rear suspension. They do seem to suggest the twist beam is worse than they were expecting which probably isn't what Ford were going for. https://www.topgear.com/car-news/twin-test-ford-focus-vs-seat-leon I didn't realise the Leon also had a TB setup on the 1.5 though. Is there any 'midsized' hatch that comes with IRS on smaller engines now?1 point

This has already been discussed at great length on here. As someone with multilink suspension on the Mk4 I can only say I have not noticed any bounce or springyness from the rear . On the contrary it soaks almost anything up from potholes to speedbumps . Worth noting again is that at launch when the Mk4 variants were exhaustively tested the conclusion of many testers was that most drivers would not notice any difference between the multilink and the torsion beam suspension and that the multilink on really came into its own when the car was pushed to the limits. Maybe thats why Ford eventually changed the spec on a number of models.1 point

The actual cat is a honeycomb, once that starts to break down there's no saving it, but it might still last a while before it needs replacing. Metallic rattles are generally caused by baffles in silencers (metal plates welded inside to reduce noise) that come loose when the weld breaks, it's these that you can hold still with a self tapper.1 point

I'm getting stressed out about jobs. Been applying to around 8 jobs now and 5 I didn't even get shortlisted for. I blame the CoronaVirus and it increasing the unemployment population. Makes me worried what career I'll get into. This hasn't been a good year for me. Heard the girl I liked got married however god showed me she wasn't the nice person I thought she was so dodged a bullet. Don't know what grade I'll get in my masters though hopefully from what I've seen jobs don't really ask what grade you have in a masters just that you have it and now this with job searching. I might start off as a medical lab assistant then see if there are any training opportunities to register as a biomedical scientist. From there work my way up and hopefully with my masters get into more specialised roles or even management. Never knew this is what life is like after school.1 point

Yep you was right - stopped car today it went to park by itβs self and a few seconds later the hand brake applied automatically1 point

I think the big issue here is age related old duffers that understood the world, their brain was connected at birth and when they don't know, they read and digest the manual (and park in gear because you should). circa 28 to 40 year olds who think they are clever and never read the manual (and have a mix of part baked skills in both the old duffer and the 3 year old camps) 3 year olds who write the software, are stupid and invent features and procedures only a brain dead moron would ever think of Issues raised, are probably because the 3 year old had completed the software before the engineer had got halfway through stating what it needed to do. And as doesn't drive, has no comprehension of the differences required when driving a vehicle with a manual gearbox, a DSG, or an automatic.1 point

I don't think the Pela warns not to use it with hot oil. I've used it with hot oil before without problems but I decided not to warm up the engine this time because I didn't want the delay while it drained back into the sump. To be honest the 5W 20 is like cat's P anyway and it was very quick. I think it's unlikely to have much, if any, sludge because it's only on 39,700 miles and in the five years we've had it it's only done between 5K - 7K per year and has been serviced annually. Also it's journeys have been almost exclusively extra-urban on A-roads and dual-carriageways and of at least 30 minutes duration. The Pela must have gone pretty much to the bottom of the sump because I got 4 Litres out which is the full volume without a filter change. Regarding not flooding the engine I can understand that argument if it was cranking so slowly as not to 'catch' but I'd say intuitively it was cranking at or close to the normal speed. I'll dig out and fire up my old laptop today and see what Forscan has to report. Hopefully the new battery will arrive but on Wilco's advice in my other thread I'll be putting it on the charger before fitting it.1 point

Well I've got to the drain plug, nothing appears to be blocked, can blow air through so running it for a bit while I've got some of the panels out to see if anything from anywhere else. Does seem a bit odd due to the amount of water that was there and that my other focus, is bone dry inside. Will keep an eye and see how it goes!1 point

You have to have the clutch down to be able to start the car. Routine for the "Old school" π1 point
-
Forscan is perfectly capable to do this. You just need the (highly experimental) 2.4.0 beta test version that is only supplied on special request. Apart from this you need to know exactly which software version you need. The Chinese UCDS clone software may not be able to download the Ford firmware files directly but it is perfectly possible to download the files manually and store them in the correct folder of the UCDS clone software. For less than β¬20,- the UCDS clone is a very powerful tool. Being based on an older version of the original UCDS software the clone sofware may not be as advanced as the latest original UCDS software but for most purposes the clone software will be more than sufficient and more advanced as many other (free or paid) software. I use the clone software for example to load my own custom software into the instrument cluster for testing. This is easier and faster than doing it the official way (using my VCM2 and the Ford IDS/FDRS software).1 point

π Yeah, Been a very busy week preparing the kids for there next term in school as well as working 50 hours across six days ending tomorrow; and completing a pretty detailed PowerPoint presentation on a project to save the company 40k per annum which I completed entirely on my spare time off work in an effort to be an instant savings impact rather than a temporary escape from my daily role. I hope to be back online tomorrow evening as I have a nice item to share with you guys; bought a fold out desk for our sons room it's pretty cool.1 point

@Bannko is really THE MAN here, thank you for your help. I already sent you one PM. If possible, could you kindly send instructions? Hopefully I will be one more here with sat nav activated. π1 point

I had an escort where the exhaust would rattle / vibrate only at a certain rpm, there was a heat shield welded to the underside of cat. On one corner the heatshield weld had cracked and come adrift. A blob of weld fixed it.1 point

From that Forscan thread it looks like vn 3.4 doesnt recognise the ford-ST animation setting with the Timeless theme. According to the extract from the table below it got lost somewhere between 3.0 and 3.4. The vignale animation seems to be recogised for both Timeless and classic. Maybe its just a coding mistake and nobody noticed...1 point

Hi Bannko you seem to be the man here! Is it possible I can have the instructions to code the sync 2 to nav please π1 point

It should be on left hand as we drive on the left. It's left hand traffic, not about where the steering wheel is.1 point
