  1. I agree with everything you say except 50 mph on the motorway. I'm an ex copper and have worked on the motorway and have seen a number of accidents caused, believe it or not, by cars being driven too slowly. A much safer speed would be around the 60 mph mark.

  2. Not much grey either tbf...surely midnight sky should be black with lots of little white dots and one slightly larger dot? Bit like my bonnet with all the stone chips!

  3. At 50mph on the motorway you'll be surrounded by lorries. Not a place I would want to be.

  4. The Fiesta needed to be fettled lightly to my liking on arrival. Yesterday the jack and spare came and the rubber mats for the winter are due tomorrow. A good chunk of internet time has been spent on finding out about rear view cameras and a factory camera and bootlid handle arrived today as did the ELM dongle for programming it in. The loom was made at work this lunchtime and the supplying dealer (Vauxhall) finally called me back to let me know that they would reimburse me for a new key from my local Ford dealership, the second one supplied being largely inert. The V5 arrived too, so the car can now be assigned the number WE11 KUL although I shall have to wait to do so because the V5 must be shown in order to get the key programmed. Just enough to keep me busy this weekend together with daily checks on the Sync website to see if they have updated their server to recognise my last update and now deign to supply me with some up to date cartography. I'm loving the Fiesta. It is more grown up than the Ka Mk1 but nearly as much fun.

  5. Yes, I've had two cars that colour and it's most certainly grey. Not much sign of blue in the sky at midnight!😃

  6. I know ... I'm saying its downloading while off because ... I can see it doing it!

  7. Nothing so far. I just keep getting offered the same old Sync 3.4 software update even after reporting back the successful installation to Ford. The Ford update system seams to be in a mess right now.

  8. Thanks for the reply and thanks for reminding me about the warranty and about insurance! I'd taken it for granted the insurance wouldn't be an issue but a quick check and my insurance company won't touch a remapped car! My insurance for an ST-3 will only go up about £40 from what I'm paying now so I think I need to start saving, cheers

  10. Unbelievable, I have the same 2010 car as you and only after watching your video did I discover you can pull the driver's armrest out Only had the car for four years. Next second-hand car I buy had better come with a manual Looking forward to seeing more of your videos to see what else my car has hidden away

  11. For another member I found a video showing the fitment of a sub to a Focus (TL;DR hook up to the speaker connectors in the centre pillar) I found this video, the last section shows how the dash goes back together, it's very easy to work out the correct dash removal order from watching that, the link should work fine, it's from 29:30 onwards.

  12. Thanks Peter, I think I will try swapping out the PCM for another and if it shows some signs of life, either get the old one cloned or send it off to ECUTesting. I have a PCM/GEM/IC/KEY/Transponder set off another Focus coming to play with. The fault seems very consistent. Like something in the PCM has died. It still draws 200-300mA when you power it up though. I believe the old version (1.3.9) of Forscan will go looking for other modules rather than asking the PCM whats fitted. So I'm going to try that just for the hell of it. Seems a bit dumb not to have a mode to allow you to read other modules if you know what's there an the PCM is dead. Everything points to a duff PCM which is a shame as all the other common causes are easy and cheap to fix! Oddly our LR Defender has just started showing signs of intermittent failure to crank. Smack the dash and it works! Looking at the dash, it's the same dodgy connector as in the Ford Focus. Obviously used the same dodgy dash supplier...

  15. Which town centre? As with Ian, you'd struggle to buy a flat for that here! In 2 years time the property market might have totally collapsed though, so that's something to look forward to I guess...

  16. Midnight sky is grey. Why are you doubting your ford dealer result.

  17. Wouldn't get a 1 bed flat for that price round here unfortunately ☹️☹️

  18. £130k must be well out of town? Though after seeing the Manctopia series on BBC2 I don't think they're building houses there any more, all luxury high rise apartment blocks! 😮

  21. May be but my car is definitely downloading files while switched off ... here is an extract from the manual: Updating the System Using a Wi-Fi Network Connection Connecting to a Wi-Fi Network Select the settings option on the feature bar. 1. Select Wi-Fi. 2. Select View Available Networks. 3. Select an available network. Note: Enter the network password to connect to a secure network. Switching Automatic System Updates On Select the settings option on the feature bar. 1. Select Automatic Updates. 2. Switch automatic system updates on. The system is now set to check for and receive system updates when it is connected to a Wi-Fi network. Note: You can use the system when a download is in progress. Note: If the system is disconnected from the Wi-Fi network when a download is in progress, the download continues the next time the system is connected to a Wi-Fi network.

  22. I was hoping someone could help me. Just looking to purchase a minibus so that my wife can do a conversion. As long as it keeps her away from me I'm happy. Have been looking online and found a Ford Transit minibus 14 seater from 2013 for £8500. It's diesel 2.2 done 40k miles, only had one owner. Great service history. What are these like to convert and are they reliable or expensive on the road? Any advice on this would be great as I am like a duck out of water with the idea of converting a van.

  23. When I saw your note I went out to the car and checked and I see 24 hours on it is still downloading files so its certainly a lengthy old process. I don't think your car needs to be on ... mine hasn't been but has clearly been downloading although not v fast. It might induce the download to "Scan for updates". Make sure you've got a solid Wifi connection ... mine is 1/2 bars but on my mobile phone shows full strength so I don't think much of Ford's hardware. Above all be patient, I guess! Very patient! If you drive away from your Wifi connection when you return you should probably induce it to restart downloads by scanning for updates ... then wait a minute or two for the system to react!! Hope this works for you, Alex.

  25. The small drainage hole at the back is not the problem and nor seems to be the silencer. The hiss is probably air. Try opening the bonnet and getting somebody to tickle the pedal while you try to pinpint it.

  26. Yes, I can see the barcode now. That is not damage, is it?
    1 point
  27. Oh, I can see the barcode now you mention it! When I first saw it I thought it looked like chewing gum bit couldn't work out how it could get there...makes sense now I can see it's a sticker!
    1 point
  28. and that also is not an impact damage, there was supposed to be a sticker in that location with the part number, bar code, etc, probably burnt due to heat , I see nothing wrong here also

  29. The 6MTT215 box fitted to the Mk 8 1.0 is a bit stronger than the Mk 7.5 5 speeder. The Magna/Getrag datasheet states that (despite the "215") it is rated for 240Nm. Coincidentally (or maybe not) this is the output of the latest 155ps MHEV in the Fiesta and most remaps seem to make around this figure. If only they'd do the ST with a seat and suspension tune my poor old back could live with..............😃

  30. I think it was launched late 71. "Car" magazine did a twin road test of the 1300 Sport versus Opel Kadett in their January 1972 issue.

  31. Just a thought, but I wondered if the splits on the inner tyre wall could have been caused by straddling speed bumps? Our local council have a particularly nasty variety which is some sort of hard plastic/rubber block bolted to the road and the edges can be pretty sharp. You can get the same effect from the conventional tarmac type where the edges have crumbled away and leave jagged edges.

  32. I'm not sure how connecting to the fronts would affect performance, like you say the recommended is from the rears, the only sub I've ever fitted was to a Punto and I tapped into the rears for that as the head unit didn't have the correct outputs.

  34. I don't like having a work colleague from the office department ask myself and a fellow worker if he could borrow a mask from either of us as he wanted to go to the shop 😳 He was deadly serious too; has been spoken to before about house partys and our response was; sure thing buddy as if we don't potentially have the virus already; I think there's one my kids used in school pat two weeks in the back of my car. before we fell on the ground laughing like Peppa pig. Followed by recommending McDonalds as they would feed you through the window. And this guy is in a fairly responsible work position,

  35. Sandwich box's range in some considerable size; there's a few people where I work whom have sandwich box's bigger than my Bosch S5 battery in my diesel focus. There's already a few stop/start threads if you consider the thread revivals 😂

  36. Thanks for posting that information regarding elmconfig; it has come along way since first release, I had a modified elm327 in the early days of elmconfig, is a real financial saving now being able to reset a Bluetooth module using the software. I lost track of the progress of elm config in the past few years since I stopped modding the focus in 2016. Thanks again.

  37. Martin, you realise Glasgow Rangers financially rescued your club back in the 20s? (might have been earlier) a lot of English clubs claim affiliation with Rangers but Arsenal is the only one with a true connection.

  39. Dear Lenny, Please let me know the kind of file system you applied on your SSD. I also tried to replace the annoying-buzzing HDD in the same Cisco mediabox but whatever file system I try (NTFS, exFAT, FAT32, unallocated, cloned for mediabox's HDD..) it falls into an infinite loop when booting. (green light .. Load>>... green blinks ... red light ... ..start over). Thanks in advance!

  40. My ancient Focus (15 years old) is pretty troublesome free, with immaculate bodywork, though it was your proverbial one owner from new when I got it complete with replacement engine. I would never take £500 for it....now, £600, that's another thing LOL

  41. Did you have this vibration before all the work was carried out? If not I'd suspect it's the tyres, I've known brand new tyres to cause a vibration even when balanced. Maybe your wheels are buckled also? If it was there before the work was carried out then maybe driveshafts? I'd hope whoever done the work on your vehicle would have checked track rod ends and bottom ball joints for play.

  42. Here are a set of instructions that I wrote for someone else (possibly @wilto)that was having difficulty with the PCM: On the Information Page select “Read” in order to determine the module type (ESU-131 in my case). Click on “Procedures” then “Page 2” Select the PCM type as identified on the information page from the drop-down menu. Then select “Read firmware from PCM to BIN-file” You will get a warning about disabling power saving and screen saver. Click OK. This next step may take some time and you may feel decidedly anxious whilst you wait – I certainly did – it took 78 minutes to read the PCM. Then select “Load firmware from PHF/HEX/BIN-file”. You will get a warning about a non-empty VID block – select “No”. Click on “Configuration” Ticked the box for “Integrated speed control”. Click on “Procedures” to switch back to the procedures page. Turn the ignition off. Switch it back on to position 2. Then select “Write current firmware to PCM”. I think it was at this stage that I was asked if I wanted to use the current configuration for the PCM – I selected “Yes”. This stage took about 15 minutes. Click on “Configuration”. Click on “Read from PCM”. Click on “Save to file” and save it to laptop. Check that “Integrated Speed Control” box is ticked. Click on “Write to PCM”.

  43. Happy..............not 'being happy' I actually quite like that :) It's that sickening song of last year that Radio 2 seem intent on still playing on a daily basis! Wrong indications on roundabouts! ie on a 4 entrance/exit roundabout, indicating right and coming off at the second exit!
