  4. I only did French as a foreign language at high school. I actually got a better GCSE result in French (B) than I did in English (C). No surprise there as I'd been learning French since I was 5 and spent lots of time in France as a child. I even went to a French school twice whilst over there and had a few French friends around my age in the little hamlet where our holiday home was. Weird thing is, I can barely speak French now after not using it for 15 years. I can remember the basics like hello, I would like, please and thank you but not much else.

  5. I regret no doing German or French in school now that the UK will exit the EU at the end of 2020, In order for me to avoid customs import taxes on my Amazon purchases; I will have to long on to Amazon in Germany or France and purchase on that website where the package may still pass through the UK; I won't have to pay any customs import taxes in Ireland because it's originally shipping from an EU country. Not alot of people know that😅 and will be stung by customs for everything. I suppose Google translate will help navigating through the foreign language unless Amazon set up a warehouse in Ireland, which it may not be profitable for them to do.

  7. this is how it went wrong for me once (I wasn't intending to undo crank bolt this time). I was changing a gearbox on escort mk5. To jiggle the gearbox shaft into the clutch I put a ring spanner on the crank pulley bolt to move it a bit. Finished putting gearbox in and everything put away. Start the engine, I hear a big clunk, some sound of metal parts falling off and a split second later the engine starts. WTF I think, open the bonnet, have a look and realised I had left the spanner on the crank bolt which had gone flying off, but before it did that it had caught on something and it had totally removed the crank pulley bolt which fell on the ground. Luckily no damage done and I got it all back together ok. Luckily. Escort has pulley keyed to shaft, had that been a 1.6 petrol focus mk1 for example where the pulleys are not keyed to cranskshaft I would have ended up with bent valves.

  8. Hello all, Ive recently purchased a focus MK2.5 and have had to hardwire my dashcam due to the sockets all being live all the time. I've used a hardwire kit and used fuse 100 which is for the ignition modules. Everything is connected and working. My question however, is how do you know if the hardwire kit is the correct orientation? If looking at the fuse board I've done it so that the wire in the kit goes out to the right, horizontally. Don't want to risk any of the cars systems to not work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Dave

  12. No, didn't driver faster then 50 kmph xd I don't recall reading anything related to "fuel" . There were some dpf error codes and other stuff, but they did not come again after the reset and driving a bit.

  13. I don't see how it could tighten? I think all engines rotate clockwise these days don't they? So if you get the spanner on the wrong side it'll just flick up and come flying out through the bonnet... It's not a method I'd ever risk though. Knowing my luck something would go horribly wrong!

  14. Lol, certainly do! I have seen, however, results of serious medical research which suggest that men do, in fact, have a worse response to respiratory viruses than women. This certainly seems to have been the case with Covid-19, so maybe there is something in it after all. However, I take some comfort from other research which suggests if you have, or have recently suffered, a cold or similar, it will have "woken up" your immune system so you could be less susceptible to Covid. My Mrs reckons she can't remember when I haven't had a cold in the 30+ years we've been together, so I figure I should be ok. Still taking sensible measures though!😀

  15. Cheers Eric. Mrs not getting any worse thankfully.....I could argue it's just a bout of mild "Man flu" we all know how bad that is 😄 Re the car. I've been outside and started it up once the other residents had gone out and managed to take the handheld hoover with me and give it a clean whilst it was ticking over. When it was parked up on Thursday afternoon it was at 12.7. Today it was sat at 11.8 so it could of gone for a few more days and now its reading 12.4 so alls good for the time being.

  17. I did French and German for 3 years in high school. Then took French for GCSE, not because I wanted to, but because we had to take one foreign language. Ended up with the same grade in both French and English which was a little depressing!

  18. If it is a diesel then you have the powershift trans made by Getrag. It is the wet clutch model (6DCT450) also used in many Volvo models. It requires a trans oil and filter change every 37500 miles or 3 years whichever is the soonest. It really MUST be done in order for trans to have a decent length of life. If it is serviced by a Ford dealer they should tell you when it needs doing - if you refuse then be it on your own head. It is definitely not a money making idea, trust us/me, it MUST be done - £500 is a stupid crazy high price. The oil is the expensive bit and labour time is low. When the dealer prints off a Ford Service sheet it will be detailed on the service sheet when it needs changing, along with other items such as belts, brake fluid, antifreeze etc If you go into this link you will find lots of threads about oil change etc. In the same menu you will find lots of info on this transmission, some good, some horrendous! I have chosen the Mk4 Mondeo menu as there is much more info in it than the Mk5 menu, but same trans https://talkford.com/community/forum/278-drivetrain-mk4-mondeo/page-4?prune_day=100&sort_by=Z-A&sort_key=last_post&topicfilter=all Here is one of the specific threads https://talkford.com/community/topic/239995-diy-powershift-dct-fluid-change-mk4-mondeo/ P.S if you still have the old filter, when it's drained off, very carefully examine it and search for any signs of minute particles that look like plastic bits whiter/cream in colour. If there are any it is the first signs of the front clutch starting to break up

  22. Thought this thread was looking neglected! Firstly, hope things turned out ok Ted, I see you're still visiting this site which looks good news! Secondly, I keep an eye on the official statistics and, while the level of fatalities is concerning, at least it's good to see that the number of people testing positive is falling significantly. The statistics don't show what percentage of people being tested are positive, just the number, so I keep working it out for myself. A few weeks ago, over 7% of the total tests were positive, that's fallen to around 4% which seems like progress is being made in containing the spread.

  23. Woopsie, sorry I missed your comment about the VGT actuator not moving. Yep, definitely check that out. Looks for leaks in the vacuum line between the actuator and the boost regulator. If you find nothing there, it may be the regulator itself. You need to get the car up and under it to reach the regulator, I believe. If the VGTDC readout is changing but the actuator is not, there is almost certainly either 1) a vacuum leak or 2) the vanes in the turbo are sticky and coked up. You can test for carbon and sticky vanes by simply pushing down on the actuator when the engine is off (or vacuum line disconnected). You should be able to move it up and down with little pressure. Failing that, probably a vacuum leak or dodgy regulator.

  24. the Sildenafil more commonly known as Viagra i got are manufactured by Accord Healthcare in Middlesex, available in 50mg 100mg and 150mg from experience drink with two pints of water to prevent acid reflux, and if like myself; you aint got an recital disfunction atall then the 50mg are more than enough lol three hours later, had to purchase a king sized duvet for the double bed as none of the double was making contact with the mattress it was like a wig-wam, they also leave you breathless like you've been climbing Everest and don't work if you have just eaten a meal thought id be specific there they dont work straight after eating food lol they dont do much for women though, wife tried one and didn't notice much just swollen lips

  25. I just picked up my 2019 2 ltr diesel and can't say I had any noticeable wind noise. I did mainly motorway driving, 75 - 90 mph (and a bit more at times on the Autobahn:)) and found it really smooth tbh, but that is coming from having a 13 year old TDCi so maybe it is just comparative. Also I have the B&O sound system and did notice the bass was there but again, so real rattles. I didn't try to adjust the balance or anything, and the car was pretty much empty of stuff so no contents to rub or rattle around.
