What a load of dog , if the yanks actually cared about the driving experience they'd spec their Focus without a crappy Powershift DCT250 gear box.........problem sorted. Oh I forget, a manual gearbox is too much like hard work, all that "clutching"...a few of them might lose a few lbs (is breathing and using a clutch pedal classed as multi tasking?)3 points

What do you mean by subtle visual mods? The ST-Line is already sporty looking so doesn't really need any visual mods. Btw, with your age, any mod will affect insurance, visual or otherwise.3 points

I bought my chimney cap from http://www.chimneycowlproducts.ie wasn't Amazon, I bought a few nice ornaments from Amazon and having spent almost 2k on Amazon doing all my Christmas shopping in the past month; I have to say I'm very offended by that comment; Amazon is a host for many high quality items, Looks great, personally I think a 3000kelvin would have looked warmer though a bit more yellow to match the flame,2 points

Not fun so much as better value and a nicer ride. It's very compliant and the Fiesta is amazingly roomy for a small car.2 points

Nope. You won't be able to get the penetrating fluid down to the tips where they'll be seized in by carbon deposits. Tips will just snap off at the first try and then it's a head off job to remove them.2 points

Yeah, due to slightly confusing circumstances, I will need to change as soon as I can get rid of the Leon. I already have a buyer for the Golf as well. This isn't caused by Covid though, I never have been able to deal with people or test drive cars...last car I drove before buying was the Mk2.5 Focus back in 2014, only made it half a mile before anxiety and nausea took over. Obviously not long enough to actually test anything so essentially I bought that blind anyway lol. Covid has just been the last straw for my issues, I could at least get to a dealership before then, but can't now. It's going to take months once covid ends to get back to a 'manageable' point mentally, and I just have to hope that eases the physical issues a bit as well... Although I'm not known for my positivity and optimism, I'm really hoping the 'right' car helps with that. The last time I was anywhere near as bad as I am now was when I had the Vectra due to it's poor ride and lack of reliability. I also agree the Fiesta is a more fun car...but I'm not after fun. Even 4 years ago I couldn't drive the Mk6 ST far...and my guts have worsened considerably since. I basically just want a luxury living room that teleports to different locations. I did want something that looked interesting this time though, rather than another Match or Titanium. Was hoping to go to local car shows again (I've always had to park outside and walk in so far) but I can't see myself getting to any shows next year now anyway.2 points

Over the last 6 Years my Focus MK3 has proven to be the most reliable car I ever owned. Running/maintenance costs over the last 6 Years are really low. In my opinion many of the MK3's known problems can easily be solved or prevented.2 points

Why is there a hole in the windscreen? 😉 Seriously, the car won't need any visual mods, they look fine as they are. Most mods, subtle or visual could end up costing you more on insurance or even invalidating it.2 points

That's the American view of the focus due to the dct250 powershift issues . Squewed a bit due to there love of the slushy autos they only drive.2 points

Thought Google would throw up an answer but all I can find is various faults with the system LOL Anyone simply know how much it holds? (Standard LX, no fancy headlight washers or anything)1 point

Absolute rubbish report. Typical of the media who in real life know nothing. The Focus is a great vehicle So amazed that so many people don't even know there are 2 types of Powershift. The one that goes in lower powered Fiesta/ Focus/Renault/Citroen is the DRY clutch 6DCT250 and that's the one that is in the models that went to USA etc. The yanks can't even drive a manual trans transmission correctly - Because the Focus ST250 has so much torque I even have correspondence from them confirming that they drive about in 5th and 6th giving it full throttle so it pulls away from almost a standing start in those gears at only 1,000rpm - then they wonder why they have pre ignition and burn pistons out. One guy even told me he though the pinking/pre ignition noise was "just a rattling bolt somewhere in the air cleaner intake - idiots1 point

By visual modifications, what I really meant to say was stuff like this lol. Where did you get LED fog lights from?1 point

Bugger that! My garage only just got them out on my 2005 1.8 TDCi when they were 10 years old, I dread to think how "stuck in" they'll be on a 2004 engine.1 point

Well it was ***** cold in the garage tonight so as a test i checked the ignition, lo and behold the glowplug light came on for about a second! Big relief that nothings wrong and thanks again for all your answers. Top Notch!!1 point

Yes the Bluefin handsets are really popular on the 1.0L ecoboost. There's always a risk when remapping that you can cause serious damage so it's your decision at the end of the day whether that risk is worth it.1 point

It's probably gone low pressure due to a leak so the compressor wont kick in anymore. A decent aircon specialist will carry out a full leak check before charging the system.1 point
-
If you're curious about them then measure their resistance to see if they're burnt out. Should read v.low - 2 to 6 Ohms is normal.1 point
-
I don't know if it's still relevant these days but on older diesels with less-enthusiastic glow plugs, we just turned the ignition on and off 2 or even 3 times to allow the glow plugs to get a bit hotter before trying to start the engine. Always worked for me 👍1 point

I find my Fiesta easier to drive over long distances than my old MK2. A Vignale may very well be a good choice, or a Titanium X.1 point

Yes, it's just a 'franchise', meaning that if you pony up enough dosh, you can trade under that name but you also get proper training to do the job, otherwise their 'name' becomes worthless. Just in the same way your local SubWay, and McDonalds is a franchise. You pay them money to run the business, you get all the training and marketing support, and after paying them their fee, you get to keep the profit. 'Shopping around' is a universal truth for anything!1 point

Its a gearbox out job. For someone who doesn't even know what hydraulics are that's an 11/10 in terms of difficulty. You may as well get a new clutch and flywheel fitted at the same time as it won't cost too much more as the box is already out.1 point

That's an American article so I'm assuming they're referring to the power-shift autos rather than the IB5 manual we're used to in the UK. It seems like a typical "slow news day" article that was written by a journalist that has no interest experience with working on cars but instead spent the day googling common faults before writing a generic article. What's the normal speed for a cars audio system "breaking down"? whatever that's supposed to mean... Not quite sure how a weak body "wears down quickly" either. Do they mean rust? Why wouldn't you just say rust if that's the case? Or does something magical happen with car bodywork I'm yet to discover? Or how about the writer didn't have a clue what they were on about so just listed some generic waffle instead.1 point

I would agree too , the fiesta is a better car than the focus.1 point

Problem solved. Bought a new injector from P F Jones of Manchester £170 .No codes required. Be careful fitting the clip to the blead off pipe on the injector, very fiddly.1 point

Eco-comfort is presumably so soft that you can drive over a great crested newt without harming it?1 point

It does not kill the battery , if at any time the battery becomes slightly low the stop start automatically turns off. When the correct battery is fitted it can easily cope with stop start. The batteries are not the same spec as vehicles without stop start. Most importantly it is to reduce dangerous emissions/fumes when traffic is queuing/at a standstill in towns for example etc. We all know now that diesel emissions are a killer compared to petrol. Having said that, I drive a petrol and always switch my stop/start off each time I start my car, ha ha1 point

you would need the GEM unit and window modules from an ST3 or rs focus possibly immobiliser and keys too depending on how much the windows are lined in to the system, some team hecko wind deflectors look good and will stop rain getting in as well as assist in defrosting the windows in the winter mornings because the air exiting the window is then directed down the sides, easier to electrify the switches, piggy back fuse in to the rear window heater fuse then a 20 Amp fuse in to the output from the piggy back fuse in the passenger footwell, run a single 20 Amp cable from the fuse to each point of contact on the window opening switch which you dont want people to touch, the cables will then become live along with the engine. they will soon get the message my full list of guides are here if interested too: Full List Lenny's Guides - General Ford Related Discussions - Ford Owners Club - Ford Forums1 point

You will never find it because this type of engine does not have an idle air control valve. During idle the amount of air is regulated by opening/closing the throttle plate.1 point

I've got a private car park (well, my flats, not me specifically!), can't see it getting nicked but it only cost £2 anyway so I'm not fussed lol. More worried about it blowing away if it's windy overnight! That youtube video is for the 1.6 TDCi, the injector leaks on those are from the engine cylinders which why they chuff. Not a common 1.8 TDCi issue, if yours are leaking it'll more likely be fresh diesel from the top of the injector. The engine cover just pulls off, it has rubber mounts on each corner so just give it a sharp tug at each corner.1 point
-
If you're checking injectors on YouTube, make sure to check 1.8 TDCi specifically, the fuel system is slightly different to other common rail diesels. The gears run on bearings when they're not selected so there's always a bit of drag from them in neutral, especially when the gear oil is cold and thick. Pressing the clutch separates the engine from the gearbox completely so there's no drag from them at all. It's not really relevant for a garage diagnosis, just puts a little less strain on the starter and battery. It's good practice and pretty much all modern cars from around 2010 won't allow you to start the engine without the clutch down. Glad you're still able to start in the closer temps at the minute. I've bought a magnetic screen cover to try on Sunday night...no scraping ice on Monday hopefully haha!1 point

I was trying to see why. Apparently you need to buy their special awards edition to get the full story, but I did find this: Top Gear said: " Ford isn’t stamping out the EVs and crossovers that legislation and the buying public demands with a cookie cutter; it’s making cars we’ll actually want in the process.” It hails Ford for “taking a punt” at leveraging properties like the Mustang in its push to be an EV leader, though it notes that the Mach-E is not everyone’s cup of tea. Also the Puma ST is their crossover of the year.1 point
-
Apparantly Ford have been awarded Top Gear's manufacturer of the year. I guess they must still be paying them the backhanders. I mean the cars aren't bad but they're not exactly ahead of the game.1 point

fiestas dont seem to be affected so far. not heard of any gpf issues on them1 point

Hi, There can be numerous reasons why it does not work correctly. I always used to turn mine off every time the engine was started!! As you know the battery must be tip top It will not work at low engine temps. According to a Ford Specialist in undermentioned link the Battery Monitoring System needs to be reset if a new battery is fiited. I have known in a couple of cases that the central fuse box has required replacement Have a read thru this link. There are other threads to be found on the Talk Ford site https://talkford.com/community/topic/397139-auto-startstop-not-kicking-in/1 point

Warning will stop when the filter has cleaned to a sufficient amount.1 point

The 1.0 is solely Direct Injection , whereas the 1,5 is partially Direct and partially port injection. Port injection generates less particulates than direct. The positioning of the GPF Is also likely different on the 1.5 , it may be closer to the exhaust and thus gets hotter more quickly and regenerates more easily.1 point
-
You can stall an auto. Pull the intake pipe off the airbox and cover it with some thick material (for example, picnic blanket or hoody...depending on your age lol). Easier on cars with an open ended intake but on the Focus it originally enters below the grill. If you want to pull a safe fuse, pull the fuel pump fuse. You'd have to check which number that is in the handbook.1 point
