  2. To be honest I never found replacement displays for this type of instrument cluster. Back in the days when I used to repair these instrument clusters as a hobby I salvaged the displays from instrument clusters that were beyond repair and had quite a few of them on stock. However I threw all of them away some time ago. Another problem will be that a MK2 instrument cluster with dual display are rare because it was only used on automatic transmission versions but a MK2 instrument cluster with red illumination is even rarer. The MK2 instrument cluster wit red illumination was part of the interior facelift in 2007 and was only used for about 9 Months until the MK2.5 was introduced. I suggest to buy yourself a Focus MK2.5 instrument cluster with the large display. When configured properly the MK2.5 instrument cluster is fully compatible with your car.

  6. Anything can be 'done', but it's not straightforward, needing much work and reprogramming. This may be of interest. There's another thread with a full conversion but due to the frustrating 'search' facility of this forum, I can't find it LOL

  7. After I came up with the slightly mad idea, I Googled detonators & fuses, but did not find anything helpful. I also put Tom's image into Google Image search, which is usually very good, but it did not find it. So Mark has beaten Google. And that takes some doing! Technically I was wrong about it being a detonator, a shell has propellant that needs igniting. Detonating the shell inside the gun would not be a good idea, I certainly would not want to be anywhere near it! I think this device uses a percussion cap (a very small detonation) to ignite the propellant. Then some other device must detonate the high explosive charge when the shell reaches its destination. I am just glad that I have never faced any real possibility of being on the receiving end of things like this, unlike my parents. Both experienced WW2, my mother was in London part of the time, my father got injured on a journey via the Cape of Good Hope, possibly to the far east, and after recovery spent the rest of the war as a draughtsman helping design aircraft & related stuff. He also lived through WW1, though being only 6 at the end, I doubt if he saw much real action!

  8. I had similar faults on mine in the past, can’t remember if there are specific fault codes for each ABS sensor or I found it by process of elimination but the connector for the sensor behind the wheel hub had gotten damaged giving intermittent connection. Got a new fly lead for the connector and was able to swap the plug over without having to replace the full cable.

  9. Same here tbh. Thinking of getting a small runabout and cashing in on the Focus atm as were moving ( Fingers crossed) shortly so will only be 2miles from work and see what's available later in in the year perhaps. Circumstances don't warrant a diesel anymore.

  10. I hope everything is going to be fine because Ford is a good car company and has a great variety of spare parts to fix it like new. But the cost is a little big for making lots of serious repairs at the engine. If the rest of the car is in a verey good condition and you like it a lot on the road, you should consider a great repair of your engine. Your pocket, your decision!!!😀

  11. The car has a full Ford dealer service history but the last one was 8000 miles ago. The supplying garage serviced the car before I picked it up and changed the timing belt, It passed an mot without any problems either 👍🏻 I’m really hoping it’s a simple fix, if not then it is covered by a warranty so it can either be fixed or I can get my money back and look at another car, which would be a shame as it really does appear to have been looked after

  12. https://www.carthrottle.com/post/whats-causes-a-tappety-engine-and-how-can-it-be-fixed/ Read this article it might help you!!! In my opinion the previous owner might have never changed engine oil as it needed. Lot of diesel (Ford) owners here in Greece (as me) change engine oil and oil filter every 5.000 miles in average. It is good for the diesel engines and a little more fuel efficient. Of course there is a manufacturer's manual that writes in how many miles had change the engine oil but we follow our own schedule that we believe is better for the car.

  13. Fairly normal sort of job for your little back street garage. Expect £200 to sort it out.

  15. Well if you have a 2015 car like me, then you'll have SYNC2, There are no 'free updates' for SYNC2, you have to buy a new SD card with the latest map (what SD Map do you have under the arm rest?) I thought they ended SD Map's for SYNC2 with F8 over 2 years ago, but it seems there is an new F9 Map out there, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ford-2021-Sync-NAVIGATION-Europe/dp/B092JDHFQN You will find them on eBAY for half that price, but that risk is yours. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-F9-SD-Card-Navigation-Sync-2-SD-Sat-Nav-Latest-Maps-UK-Europe-2022-MAPS-/294324623973 I bought my F8 Maps on eBay no issues. If you've got the money and the ability you can upgrade the whole unit to SYNC3 with these kits from China, then maps will update for free. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000909731806.html Unfortunately we have to buy the 64GB Europe Map version for the UK which is £450+, I would have bought one already if we could use the cheaper 32GB version (cyanlabs.net do offer 'chopped' UK maps for this though)

  16. This is what i'm saying, the majority of cluster repairers wont touch them so people are left with main dealer or finding an enthusiastic self taught. One of the probs is you cannot find the same clocks to repair with. I'd kinda banked a couple of hundred quid to sort it. As an extra spec in the already muddy waters apparently there are 2 versions of the red clocks only discernable by removing and reading the part numbers from the rear. Luckily i've already had mine out and photographed all the numbers and stickers on the rear according to my local main dealer you cannot spec it from the reg or VIN#. Also at one-time you could buy genuine LCD's to replace then they dried up, there were some via china but had quality issues. TBF from what ive gleaned they are ribbon mounted not soldered.

  19. It's about time these insurance companies got used to the idea that private individuals keep a van - for personal use and also just because they like them. I know someone in the latter category but he doesn't have an email address so its not so easy to find out who he gets his insurance from.

  22. Sorry for a late reply, after some more diagnostics with my mechanic. It turned out there were 2 things that caused the issue. 1. The DPF pump would not pump enough diesel for the fuel vaporizer 2. The fuel vaporizer was restricted which resulted in very little diesel getting to the dpf during the regeneration. Changed the vaporizer with a new one and the pump with a used - the mechanic said that he has never seen these pumps failing and the used parts guy said that he has sold only one before so I went with a used one in hope it will last. Now it seems to be fine, I try to monitor the regenerations, the soot level (both load and the other one) never get to 0 but they do grow during city driving and drop after a nice ride on the motorway. This is just just when I got the car. After a ~week of city driving is this: sorry that I changed the order of the first two :D. The DPF load grew very little for some reason. And a few days after a motorway drive: I will still try to keep an eye on it to see how it behaves. On another note anyone any suggestion why my LOW_OIL is YES? And big thank you to everyone that participated in the discussion!

  24. I see a gap in the market for someone with skills and knowledge, sadly i have neither but would be willing to pay, i dont really care about a weird orange or green, just the display shows any warnings in the system and a pre warning would be helpful, some say it only shows gear selection while other a myriad of information. picture of mine added.

  25. The displays are illuminated by LED's but also contain a colored layer of foil that is embedded between the layers of glass. The green displays have a green colored foil while the red displays have a red colored foil. Installing green displays in a red illuminated instrument cluster will result in weird orange illuminated displays. Installing a MK2 instrument cluster with green illumination or MK2.5 instrument cluster is perfectly possible. Since 2008 I have done this at least a dozen times. Even an RS instrument cluster is fully compatible with any MK2/MK2.5 Petrol version. Installing an MK2.5 instrument cluster can also be quite cheap. Recently I bought a low mileage, mint condition MK2.5 instrument cluster with large display from a UK based scrap yard I paid less than €100,- including P&P. The Focus MK2/MK2.5 instrument cluster can easily be configured/reprogrammed using a cheap ELM327 in combination with the free ELMconfig and Forscan software.

  27. I have a similar problem bur only by 50%, in as much the top screen on mine has gone {also a 2007 focus Ghia] after months of searching and asking questions of getting on for 100 companies advertising cluster repairs, NOT ONE as soon as they are aware its the red clock cluster will offer a repair. Ford will sell you a new cluster between £800-£1000 plus the cost of cloning and copying your original module into the new one as it holds your correct mileage, immobiliser data to name but 2. I've now resigned mysel to scouring eBay for a working one but theyre like hens teeth or gold rocking horse poo LOL. As long as the vehicle runs and drives i'd put up with it till youve the funds to replace it, as current will be extreemly difficult to sell on. Good luck with it.

  28. Hi Susan, I have seen very simlar faults on industrial touch screens on machines, in fact I have replaced more than a hundred over the years. The touch screen uses a system of capacitance to detect the place on the screen you have touched. When the screens have a fault and are cold the screen membrane acts as if the whole of the screen is being touched and the screen video control just blanks the screen.

  29. The liquid can not be AC fill fluid, that needs about 5Bar (75PSI) to keep it liquid at 20C, so it will instantly evaporate. Most likely it is water (condensate), which always forms on the AC evaporator while it is operating. There should be a drain tube from this, if blocked or displaced the water will get into the footwells. Another common cause of misted up windows is the re-circ flap, that closes off the fresh air intake. If jammed closed misting up happens quickly.

  31. I used to drop mine on the shelf behind the gearstick Blatto, but on long journeys I found it got very hot for some reason. Now in a similar fitting to that of Tiexen's and like him have very little difficulty with the heater controls behind it.

  35. Without knowing anything else, I'd definitely take the switch and slip ring that go with the wheel, simply because it sounds like they're a set and should be kept together. Someone with more knowledge than me would likely need to know the model, year, trim/features of your focus to give a solid answer. If you don't take the extras and find out down the line you could have done with them then you'll kick yourself and might struggle to find them again. That would be my thinking anyway 👍
