  3. Octopus energy you can change your direct debit to any reasonable amount therefore reducing any credit to pretty much zero. I make the decision how much I pay depending on usage. Currently I'm in debt to £190 ish. Will tweek my direct debit so it reduces each month. So easy to control with octopus. Smart meter does the readings for me and I can see if I want to , each 30mins of usage on the app/website if your a bit anal about it. Looks like someone was using more electric while I was at work!!!

  4. My sister just had a car salesmen tell her cars these days are made to do 300k miles! 😆 P***k 😆

  5. I won't do direct debits with energy companies. Much prefer to be billed for what we've actually used. There was an article/ programme a couple of yrs back that reckoned the Utilities were sitting on roughly £4m of overpayments from its DD customers.

  6. Just re-checked this morning and Durham County Council have increased FREE tyre disposal for private individuals from 4 to 5. Apparently they have found this to be far more cost effective and environmentally friendly than having tyres thrown all over the place and just dumped, which the council then have to clear up.

  7. Hi. Just feel like sharing it. Today I replaced top engine mount, drivers side. I was surprised how easy it was. I have 1.6 tdci and it vibrates bit more than petrol. It wasn't any gap on the mount before, now it's about 10mm gap. And less vibration.

  8. Hi. My name is Karl, I've finally come back from the dark side and now own a MK3.5 focus st line 1 ltr. I'm sure your all see me around as I'll be looking for some subtle ideas for mods. Cheers. Karl.

  10. Sure it's not brake lights stuck on. The fog light is directly controlled by the bcm, no fuse so if it is fog light then you have an issue with the bcm.

  11. Aston Martin Vantage is number 50, highest group there is! Mk3 Focus RS is 40 though lol. Expired MOT not really an issue, just means it's sat at the dealership a while. As for warranty...wouldn't expect much from any aftermarket warranty tbh.

  13. Can't remember (I have several different cars) - but I think each fuse description is either in the fuse box lid or in your Driver's Manual. And I took all of that trim apart recently and I didn't damage anything. Though I have been taking cars apart for quite a few years 😄 I'm sure if you get the correct kit, and go easy at first, it'll be fine.

  14. The old girl has covered 110,000 miles now. With that kind of cash, I would love to splash out on a Mk2 jaguar (the old 'Morse' car, totally impractical, cr*p mpg, expensive to run, and low on proper power & braking, but I adore that car...

  15. Oh - some people suggest you can pull the two fuses that power the sound system, wait a few minutes and put them back - a hard reset - or do the same by disconnecting the battery; if you know what you are doing with battery connections (take just the negative off).... but that only seems to work occasionally.

  16. Yes that's the one. The diesel uses a different box with less problems.

  17. Hi Alex, as you know used car prices are just crazy at the moment so you're probably right that for 10 to 15K it's going to be a Focus Mk3.5 which is a very nice car. Personally I would sacrifice a little age, and/or mileage and try and go for a higher spec model rather than a newer poverty spec. I personally don't have a very high opinion of the 1.0 Ecoboost which is the main reason I have a diesel (auto), but there are many on the forum who swear by them (or I think that's what they mean). At the end of the day she wants something reliable, comfortable to drive and reasonable running costs, so it looks like the answer is a 'Hyundai i10' 🤣 ... only kidding !!

  18. I used a similar unit for several years replacing the Sony head unit in my ST - from Asure if I remember right. Worked ok and covered the basics like radio, USB music, reverse camera, sat nav etc. No idea what RAM spec it was but based on Windows CE so pretty outdated now. I liked the way it fitted into the standard fascia for the dash. The steering wheel controls worked through a canbus box that came with the unit and loom. Now updated to an android tablet type - I’d suspect these are more capable of running apps and stuff that either come installed or you can download. Got mine off Aliexpress, an Owince unit. Same again with the canbus box etc so the steering wheel controls worked plus it picks up battery voltage and the settings on the climate control which is nice.

  19. It takes at least 30 minutes after the ignition is turned off and the car is fully locked before all modules enter sleep mode and shut down. I assume that your car does not have keyless entry, but if it does then you need to keep the key out of range while measuring the current draw.

  20. Those android units can be very good, however the one you have linked is very low end. 1gb of RAM will struggle with having multiple apps open (such as DAB player, satnav etc.). Also android 6 is quite outdated now.

  21. £15k can get a Mk4 auto with either the 1.0EB or 1.5 TDCi in low to mid spec. Main problem is going to be powershift gearbox with the 1.0 Focus.

  25. Yep...but the OP's bio shows a 2018 model so just out of warranty.

  26. Lol, I didn't know about that either! Our fires tend to be on November 5th... The high tyre disposal cost means many are used to decorate the edges of rural rounds here. I couldn't afford to have it disposed of back in 2018...literally had a £10 note and drove around 5 different places trying to get the tyre fitted for that. One place wanted to charge £30, just for fitting, balancing & disposal! Back in 2010 I remember getting pairs of tyres fitted, balanced and disposed for a tenner the pair...

  28. Simon have you tried disconnecting the battery and forcing sync to reset? Before you did anything with Forscan did you save your AS BUILT settings? If you are close to or can get to Donny then my pal can help in person, and he doesn't charge if you go to him. Just a beer token.

  29. There is a good 50 to 60 Kg difference due to engine and gearbox oin the ST so not too sure how it would sit. Have you thought about going for aftermarket suspension? As you will have more adjustment although a much firmer ride.

  30. Also, as you said you have a Mk5 Mondeo you should join my FB group as I can guarantee one of the team will know what to do. He is one of my moderators and he installs Sync3 units etc and has acces to UCDS. https://www.facebook.com/groups/693277794183606/?ref=share I you join make sure you answer the questions and mention my name so you don't get declined 👍

  31. I bought my first diesel about 7 years ago, and a couple of months ago - a Skoda Rapid 1.6tdi 90 Did about 12kpa until Covid set in, when it became much lower. We are retired so no commuting, just days out and local running around. every 3rd or 4th week on a day out I made a point of travelling down the m'way in "Re-GEn" mode i.e what Skoda recommended you do if the DPF light comes on - in that case, about 30 mins at a steady 60 in 4th on the motorway. DPF light never came on while we had the car, bought s/h with 9k miles and sold-on 9within the family) with 75k miles. Or towing the caravan of course really hots things up in the exhaust department! Since buying the Focus a few months ago, I've been doing something similar based on the handbook recommendations, as preventative maintenance (Page 177 of the manual recommends 30mph or above for 20 minutes, see Online Owners manual. We live on the outskirts of Birmingham, and don't do much sitting around in traffic as a rule. If I lived in say, central London I might find things a tad difficult avoiding the sort of non-recommended use. When we bought the Skoda the first thing the salesmen asked was how many miles do you do in a year, rule of thumb was <10k then be aware of the risks. I looked at our projected mileage, and fuel costs based on prices at the time, and the legth of time I anticipated keeping the car (100,000 miles-worth) and compared the fuel savings costs with the potential cost of replacing one DPF. And no, I didn't let Skoda or VW anywhere near the car once dieselgate broke, about 2 weeks after I bought the car! BTW my 120ecoblue averages about 50-55mpg across a tankful of mixed use (using normal or sport mode), with motorway cruising going up to 65mpg - similar to the Skoda in fact, which could achieve 75-80mpg trunding across the North York Moors on the 50mph roads there! (I did once see 130mpg average but this was on the stretch of downhill road from Whinlatter in the lakes!). I've found the computer is about 1% or so pessimistic on the Focus, it was 5-8% optimistic on the Skoda. So if the Focus trip computer says 65mpg, then it probably is. Addendum: The Focus does seem to have a bit of turbo lag compared to the Skoda, but once you get used to it its a very nippy peice of kit, lots of flexibility, even picks up speed quite well from 60 in 6th up a m'way gradient, though 5th is better!

  33. I don't like feeling kinda sorry for myself today in a totally selfish way! Firstly I learnt of the death of one of my musical heroes who has helped me through good times and bad since I discovered his album Bat Out Of Hell, I was even privileged to see him in concert in 1988. I'm sure you're all fed up of hearing the tributes to Meat Loaf today but his music was a huge part of a lot of folks lives, mine included. Secondly I stood by the roadside as a hearse carrying the coffin of a pal from schooldays went by on his final journey. Keith was 6 months younger than me and diagnosed with liver cancer about a year ago. My feeling of grief will be nothing compared to the families of these two gentlemen. Times like this I start pondering my own mortality and hope that I have a wee bit more time to enjoy before I shuffle off this mortal coil. So tonight I've raised a glass or two to two absolute gentlemen who were a big part of my youth and beyond. Keith and Meat, keep on rocking! 🍻

  35. Many Ford dealers can’t do this themselves. You just need to go somewhere that can do it. Your car will use the camera as part of it it’s safety features so there are insurance implications if it is intentionally not working correctly.

  36. Check that ya door seal, the black rubber stuff, hasnt come adrift and is causing the door to not seat correctly. Also check the door striker plate isn't loose or has moved. You might be able to see the mark on the body work where it should be, if it's moved. Beating that, be like minicab, everyone in the back!!!

  37. No disrespect to any of the regulars on this Forum but you are all lightweights when it comes to Covid misinformation, I know people who are hardcore Anti everything to do with Covid and Dr John Campbell is quoted a lot by them. You can read into that what you want. The following article on the same subject was published in the Lancet and was put together by more than one person, but it was done so in 2020 so may not be relevant now. I have not had time to digest the findings yet. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanonc/article/PIIS1470-2045(20)30388-0/fulltext My opinion regarding lockdowns is that they were put in place to slow down and spread out things timewise so that the Health Services did not get completely overwhelmed because the inevitable happened to far to many people all at the same time. As for Facemasks, I have my own extremely strong anecdotal evidence that even the blue 3 ply ones were very effective against the variant that was doing the rounds in October 2020, that doesn't mean that they are as good now against other variants.

  38. The petrol revs higher so will always go faster in each gear, when accelerating from standstill or rolling start. If you were at 1500 RPM in 3rd gear, both Diesel and Petrol, say 30 MPH in 3rd gear, and floor it, initially the diesel will pull away

  39. I don’t understand why no masks applies from next week. Seems odd they don’t say it is from now/ tomorrow. Does it take that long for retailers to remove the posters on their doors. I’m not passing judgement on whether or not we wear masks but once the decision is made why is it not immediate.

  40. Boris is only the user interface anyway. All the real work goes on behind the scenes, him stepping down wouldn't make any real world difference. What's surprised me is that people genuinely believed the gov't follow their own advice in the first place. Most people in power operate a 'do as I say, not as a I do' system.

  41. I have just done the fix as per "Fusemans" photos on a 2012 cmax. Saved £800 for a new heater matrix from ford... 22 MM heater hosed needed. I managed to get hold of a fairly flexible heater hose.I also put the hose in hot water for 5 mins to make it softer and easier to fit. Don't even think of using 19 mm hose too small to get over the tube at the heater matrix end. I used the hose clamps to block off the heater hose in the engine bay. Saved draining and then bleeding the cooling system. I cut the heater hose into 2 x 50mm pieces. Top one first.Push the heater hose onto the pipes coming from the engine.Put two hose clamps on the rubber hose and tighten one up so you can use the aluminum pipe to push the heater hose over the heater matrix. Adjust the heater hose into the right position. Don't tighten the clamps yet. For the bottom pipe , put one clamp over the heater matrix end and leave it there.Push the heater hose on to the pipe from the engine and tighten the clamp enough to hold the heater hose in place while pushing it over the heater matrix tube. Get all the heater hoses sitting properly and tight the clamps. There is enough flex in the pipes to makes this a reasonable easy job.It was easier than I thought it would be. I did try the this with new ford clamps and o rings and the clamps broke when fitting them.

  42. Seems like a very sensible idea...this is from Suffolk Council... Virtually encouraging fly tipping of tyres, paint and car parts! You cannot dispose tyres at any Suffolk Recycling Centre. You need to dispose of car parts and components through a garage or licensed scrap dealer. Solvent-based paints or large quantities of paint can only be disposed of through the hazardous waste collection service.

  43. And the next will be higher again unfortunately. I twitch now when I look at my smart meter in the evening and it shows £10-12 usage daily.
