  1. Above you'll see a very large slice of humble pie! A genuine apology to all those that suggested I had 2 x blown bulbs, that was exactly the fault! Still can't believe that my bulbs went so quickly of each other, and I'm not impressed with Philps Ultra White vision who I calculated lasted about 20 hours. Still, the thread provoked over 30 replies and was quite entertaining! Again, apologies for all those who got the 'right' answer, and my stubbornness at not believing you...

  2. Now looking at the weight of my car, I'm getting various weights depending on source. Suppose it's heavier with a with a full tank of fuel!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Got the 900 page owners manual I could look through. Dump that out the car will save a kilo.

  3. I think Paul was referring to the use of a bulb mounted in a holder fitted with test leads that can be used as a 'quick-and-dirty' tester in place of a voltmeter. It doesn't have to be the same bulb as is used in the headlamp, just one that'll draw enough current to show up any high resistance paths in the circuit.

  4. Our washing machine is fairly quiet. Dishwashers are quiet too. I never hear either if there put on late in the evening. Tumble dryers, I don't have an issue letting it run at night as I regularly clean any fluff out of all hidden areas.

  5. Yes i know, it was the fact of using a bulb to test a bulb! I was having a laugh. Its sorted now anyway👍

  7. With a full tank of fuel it's only 50kg lighter than my "heavy and will damage the roads and carparks" electric car. The anti electric car brigade will start on you for damaging the roads next. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

  9. I buy Lidl ones, they sell either 30% brighter or longer lasting. I use the 30% brighter and they last about one year, that is with a commute in the darkness for six months of the year but they are so dirt cheap that it does not matter. Who knows, they may be made in the same factory as the Phillips ones.

  10. Most common rail diesels have had throttle bodies over the last 15 years or so. You're right in that they're not needed for speed control on a diesel engine. They're used for emissions regulation in conjunction with the EGR valve, and also stop the engine shuddering when switched off.

  11. We've had this debate (at great length) on another thread. You don't like the Up! - fair enough. Many people do - also fair enough!😀 Can't speak for the TSI version (which was 90ps afaik) but have driven the 115ps GTI several times and that was no ball of fire. We were looking at upgrading my wife's 60ps Mii version but didn't think it worth the extra cash. As Tom says, it's a city car, no matter what bells and whistles you give it, and a pretty good one in a lot of people's opinion.

  12. The model itself is low budget. If you chose to 'upgrade' it by opting for an unnecessarily large engine and luxury spec seats, that doesn't change the model at all. It belongs with the 108, Aygo, Fiat 500, Ford Ka, etc. It's simply not designed for 'proper' roads.

  13. It would probably be a little bit tricky backwards engineering a Puma engine into a MK7, not impossible though. A Puma is basically a MKIV Fiesta If you're adamant you want to keep your car, you need to bear in mind that you can't just do a powertrain swop, you need to upgrade brakes and suspension too, to suit and your insurance will be considerably more expensive, remember, than a standard ST. The easiest, and cheapest option would be to buy a written off, rear end shunted MK7.5 ST with the 1.6 Turbo engine and just transfer everything over to your car, Harnesses, Engine and Transmission, suspension, brakes, trim, the lot

  14. The Up! was only ever designed as a low budget city car. If you're regularly using one on motorways and B-roads then of course it'll be awful. Seems odd to dismiss an entire brand because of their cheapest model. I owned a 108 for all of about a week, hated it that much, but I wouldn't write off all future Peugeots based on that experience.

  15. Well i guess the car doesn't start and nothing works !!! or do I detect some Bull ? Please see the State Of Charge (SOC) chart shown below. To avoid what could potentially be a very long post I will keep to the basics as much as possible. The Smart charging system on your car if still set at the factory default will be 80%. Therefore you could drive to the Moon and back and the battery will never be more than 80% charged. Using FORScan this can easily be adjusted to 95% There is a list of types and sizes of battery available which can be viewed using FORScan. You (like most others) will probably find that the battery fitted to the car and what the car thinks it has is two different things. There is much speculation as to why this is, but as yet know one has been able to offer a definate reason. So I'd probably advise not to change this unless it is the wrong type of battery. .......and of course your Stop/Start system doesn't work. I'm always amazed when some one says it does. The list of conditions that have to be met before the system will stop the engine is vast. At the end of the day the system is designed to work when the car thinks it should and not when the driver thinks it should. To summarize: First change the SOC using FORScan and set it to 95%. Next check the battery type is set correctly, but don't adjust if it is only the capacity that is wrong. Don't ever reset the BMS unless you fit a new battery. Otherwise the 'Days in Service' will be set back to zero. Lastly charge your battery with a Smart charger. Ensure that the positive lead is connected to the battery positive terminal. Connect the negative lead to the chassis main earth point - NOT the battery terminal. Leave it on charge for a full 12 hours even if the charger is saying it is complete. The other thing that you should consider is, 'do you trust the dealer' ???

  16. Morning All, New to the forum and wanted to say hello! Just purchased a Used 2016 Ford S-Max 2.0T EcoBoost 240 with the Auto box with 56k on the clock. Strange times, bought unseen from a wee dealer in England, been a company car driver for 10 years so this private purchase ride has been an eye opener. Also 20 years of no claims just waved at me as it ran away after calling and insuring this morning.... Looking forward to some fun in this (almost) S-Max ST.... Thanks, David.

  18. My eyes (and brain) are getting tired, but if you are leaving your car unlocked, can't you enter using the driver's door? ....though not as amusing for passers-by as seeing you climbing across from the passenger side 😉

  19. That's basically a 'Follow Me Home' light module as the Americans like to call them. It is for keeping the headlights on for a preset time after you lock the car, so you can find your way to the front door. The OP wants to operate the sidelights (parking lights) both front and rear each time he locks or unlocks the car. Yes the lights will work in daytime, but they do that on vehicles that are factory fitted, for example the Focus Mk4.

  20. Wouldn't want to leave a drier on while asleep personally. I know of a couple of different people locally whose houses caught fire due to an unsupervised tumble drier. Your partner & neighbours may not be keen on a 1400 washer spin cycle at 2am lol. Do dishwashers make much noise? I've never used one.

  26. Thanks, It's good to know that size will fit comfortably in the tray. Our Air Filter Ducting runs over the top of the Battery so height may be the limiting factor when I eventually do have to change mine for something with a more sensible capacity.

  27. Hahah no worries, It has got quite chaotic. So I've narrowed it down to the door, and more so the LED light that comes on when the doors lock. This is causing a short and in tern draining the battery. Not used the door nor locked it and the power has remained. The car reported this back in Oct/Nov and M53 Ford Ignored it as did F.C.C. If I avoid this door and not lock it, the car performs fine with no issues and this is with the glovebox light re-enabled, and the fuse back in for the levelling motors. Again, the car told them this and they ignored it entirely. Spoke with M53 this morning, they still want to replace the headlight part then go from there. So as you can imagine I am rather annoyed at this blindsiding attitude. Plus their Master Tech is now off until after new year. Rang T.C Harrison and asked them to get the ball rolling in collecting the car and letting their techs give it a look. They have offered to come and collect the car, and drop off one of their cars as courtesy car. Will update you later once I've spoken to T.C. H. @Gus T Private message me and I will send you all the details.

  28. If you're going to all that effort, I'd want to fit the 1.6 EcoBoost from a facelift ST myself. Non-turbo petrols are old tech nowadays, low torque, poor fuel economy, etc.

  33. That's exactly what I was planning to do in case I'd have to change the battery. My Focus is a manual 1.0 L ecoboost petrol model fitted with the Varta 60/600 OEM battery, which measures 278 x 175 x 175. However I think I heard some later models are fitted with a 278 x 175 x 190 mm battery, so if the battery holder happens to be compatible I might be able to go for that size. Yeah, I also found 25 % to be a bit low to be true, so I asked the dealer how he had determined that SoC and he replied : "I used a battery tester that's worth over a thousand euros and that we're required to use by Ford." as if the device being expensive and endorsed by Ford was some kind of proof of accuracy... I'm not sure if you just didn't read my reply carefully enough, or if you are trying to dispel what I wrote about my Stop and Start system being operational, but I can assure you that it DOES actually work, and that it does so pretty flawlessly, provided I use my car on a daily basis. Be amazed if you will. The only circumstance where it doesn't work is when I don't drive my car for more than two or three days in a row, which admittedly, occurs more often than not. Thanks for the advice. However, I don't think I'm going to change any parameters using Forscan because as I said, my Stop and Start system is currently working and I'd rather keep it that way. Setting the desired SoC to 95% would likely cause the system to operate much less often, if at all. Moreover, I paid for extended warranty and from my experience with Ford so far, I feel they'd be willing to jump onto any pretext to claim the warranty is void should I ever need it, so I'd rather not mess with settings unless I really need to. As for charging the battery with a smart charger, that's only ever a temporary solution : given that the battery has consistently shown signs of weakness for at least 12 months now, despite the car being regularly driven over pretty long distances, it has clearly suffered a loss of capacity that no kind of charging is ever going to repair. I guess that this loss of capacity is normal and that it would easily go unnoticed if only I drove the car more frequently. Actually, given how seldom I use the car, perhaps it would be advisable to use a charger in trickle charge mode whenever I'm not using the car for a prolonged period, but unfortunately I don't have any electrical outlet available near to where my car is usually parked. So as things stand, I believe the only remedy to the issues I'm experiencing would be indeed to replace the battery, which raises the following questions : 1. How serious exactly is the issue with the voltage drops ? Can I still go on with that situation for several months ? Or perhaps even over a year ? 2. If I decide to replace the battery, what's my best option when it comes to selecting the right model ? Of course it should be EFB, but should I rather go for OEM or aftermarket ? And if I go for aftermarket, would it be advisable to choose for a battery with significantly better specifications than the factory-fitted model ? Obviously, no, I don't trust him entirely, or else I wouldn't be asking for advice here. Yet believe it or not, from the many car repair professionals I've had to deal with so far, this guy is probably one of the best I've seen... Anyway, I've since long come to the conclusion that the only way to really take good care of your car is to take matters in your own hands, provided you've got the required skills and tools, that is. Unfortunately, not everyone has got that luxury.

  35. @anon I do quite like these 😂. More solid and better equipped than my top spec Peugeot 107. Never driven the TSI version though. I did install the facelift rear lights and bumper on my black up I'm keeping. So got the silver one started today and got steering wheel, traction control and airbag yellow lights on. Hopefully they should go when the car is driven. Airbag I'd assume would be reset with a diagnostic machine. Hoping I can sort it out without calling someone.

  36. That's better, I can view these 👍 As I said before, I'd just take two wires from the Footwell lights and connect to the relay coil. Other than that, I think your idea has a good chance to work.

  41. Talking about ups I currently have 2 here. Keeping the black one here. I got this donor silver up which has heated seats, electric mirrors, TPMS, sound pack so had uprated speakers and A pillar tweeters and dual driver side window switches which I'll putting in mine. Took the loom out running towards the engine through to the whole interior. From research I need to swap over the ECU, clocks, abs pump, BCM and locks for the car so it starts with no issues and no dash lights. Want the car to think nothing is wrong. Just took the loom out so no wiring is needed for the extra features just plug and play. Just praying it all starts without issue.

  44. Yes I can see your problem. I wonder if this, no half hour setting is just a Ford thing? Octopus Go is an electricity tariff with a bonkers cheap 12p / kWh rate for four hours every night (between 00.30 and 4.30am). It was designed with EV-angelists in mind [Excluding Ford Owners], because those sweet four hours let drivers charge up while they're asleep, and keep fuel costs close to 2p per mile.

  45. So what we really need is something like a virus or a bubonic plague that is cleverly developed in a laboratory that can wipe out all the Plebs, Peasants, Riff-Raff, BMW owners, and the general working class, and leave untouched the great world leaders and the millionaires !!! I'm surprised that super powers aren't working on such a thing right now, perhaps using techniques like Gain of Function. If only they could figure out how to eliminate undesirable people and just leave the world to the elite few it would be a much better place.
