In conversations with Unofix we both have old XP lappies mines a Sony Vaio FS315B. After much playing and hair pulling on my part, i can confirm, NO Linux derivative will install as it looks for drivers. None of the windows Tiny series will install due again to missing drivers i think Nvdiia. But and heres the kicker standard Win 7 WILL install and run, you then just wade in and dump all the garbage you dont need, If your desperate for a browser try Pale Moon works quite well. Am meaning mainly for those that want to run FORscan on a cheap can be picked up for £20.00 lappy, 2Gb Ram 60Gb HDD and yes it does run the afformentioned FORscan and very well even the extended licence version. Also runs ELM config. Hopefully this helps someone,3 points

Use the ChipEx website - enter a reg for a quote and the VIN is in the address bar.3 points

Ecoboost is a generic term for a range of ford engines. Carbon build up is known to affect the 2.7 v6 , so taking Google info at face value is not a good idea unless your more specific with which ecoboost. Even then there's still a lot of nonsense from keyboard warriors who read headlines without investigating first.3 points

Do you get a complimentary bottle of the stuff if a Kwikfit regas doesn't work? 🤣2 points

A farmer drove to a neighbour's farmhouse and knocked at the door. A boy, about 9, opened the door. "Is your dad or mum home?" said the farmer. "No, they went to town." "How about your brother, Tommy? Is he here?" "No, he went with Mum and Dad." The farmer stood there for a few minutes, shifting from one foot to the other, mumbling to himself, when the young boy says, "I know where all the tools are, if you want to borrow one, or I can give Dad a message." "Well," said the farmer uncomfortably. "No, I really need to talk to your Dad, about your brother Tommy getting my daughter Mary pregnant". The boy thought for a moment, then says, "You'll have to talk to my Dad about that. I know he charges £500 for the bulls and £150 for the pigs, but I have no idea how much he charges for our Tommy."2 points

We don’t care whether you have genuine or illegal software just that you don’t discuss where to get it, how to get it, etc. It’s not that any of the team care what you do, but we have to protect the site from hosting any way of bypassing copyright controls, licences etc so that it doesn’t get served takedown requests.2 points

No-one will know. DVSA won't have any idea at all. Ford will only know about the ones that they've repaired. AA/RAC may keep records of the number they've recovered. I have no idea how many it is per 100k, but you only have to look at the numbers of threads on here, as well as other forums, and Facebook, to see how many it's happening to. Even if it's a small percentage, the actual numbers are visibly higher than any other major engine failure I can think of within recent years.2 points

Yes but i cant say how as technically illegal and frowned upon here. I went with the 7 starter Sp1 version as it has the smallest footprint. ADMIN ..... I have genuine copies of ALL software i have ever used so nothing illegal here.2 points

A man came to my door asking if I wanted to buy two armchairs and a sofa. I told him I never accept suites from strangers! ___ I bought a wig made out of bum hair but had to take it back to the shop as it keeps blowing off! ___ I got a new job at a city centre casino last week, in the poker room. It's the perfect job for me, really - you could say ideal ... ___ As I boarded my plane is seen my old school friend I’ve not seen for years. As I ran down the aisle waving and shouting 'Hi Jack', next thing I’m face down being arrested. ___ I couldn't find a parking spot at work today, so I went home. Looked like they already had enough people there. ___2 points

Hopefully that will alter the course of everything being an SUV if they have to think about the impact of bigger brakes and tyres and stopping the hefty things.2 points

The U1900 is a canbus error code and in a Mk2 Focus this is invariably caused by the common cracked solder joints in the IC. There are numerous threads on this topic on the forum.2 points

Apparently, new proper car engines are so clean, that the emissions caused by 'tires' is far more significant. It's a shame that government has totally stuck their collective head in the sand over the emissions that cars actually cause. I suppose EVs being so much heavier, that in years to come, the government will ban them as the particulates shooting of the strained tires kill even more dolphins than petrol fumes ever did... https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/jun/03/car-tyres-produce-more-particle-pollution-than-exhausts-tests-show2 points

I've found Autoglym Caravan and Motorhome Cleaner effective at removing "green stuff" on textured plastic surfaces. (It's supposed to be ok on paintwork too (our static van has been fine with it for 16 years) but I'm wary of it getting on the car paintwork.)2 points

Various sections of the media are still catching up with Rowans article today. Plus there are mentions of some operators public EV charging rates having almost doubled in the last 12 months. The story about some multi-stories needing strengthening to cope with the extra weight of EVs continues to circulate, while the Asphalt Industry Alliance is predicting even more potholes for the same reason.2 points

Yes, I've seen a lot of US stuff which, on investigation, refers to the 4 cylinder ecoboost (1.6 and 1.5) though timing belt does get mentioned in those too. It looks as if someone has made a FoE request to the DVSA about the 1.0 specifically and it seems they don't know either: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/ford_focus_10_ecoboost_engine_ca2 points

That’s why I attached it instead of linking it. Lol. Also got it saved should it need reuploading And I guess it should now be changed to: We think it’s the worst of both worlds: the difficulty of replacing a chain, but with the shorter lifetime of a belt!2 points

Just noticed the sub heading 🤣 The days of changing timing belts are over.2 points

Still working on trying to find a solution to the VIN. If its possible (UK gov. doing everything to make it impossible) I will know in a couple of days.2 points

Well I hope they are alright as I have just fitted one. Actually before I fitted it I researched a little and found that they were generally thought to be well made. Perhaps you were unlucky or maybe they are not so good, time will tell. BTW how did you know it was the water pump leaking when it is hidden by the time ing cover?1 point

Good call and thanks for replying 😃. Its one of those bits that I rarely (never!) had to replace on our cars so little experience of different aftermarket makes. Its the wifes car and only has a red light to show when running hot, easy to miss. Happily bought OEM belt as have seen others that have broken but a pump.....? Cheers Paul1 point

I imagine back then it was the size of a suitcase and had only one or if you were lucky two channels on a green CRT screen. Now they are only the size of a small loaf (brown or white 🤣) and usually have 4 or more channels on a full colour LCD display. I worked for a while in a calibration lab while I was an apprentice and learnt how to repair and calibrate the old models. Happy days !!!1 point

Yes, but it took him 30 years to find a great Belfast workforce to build it LOL1 point

I'd guess that the Circoli pumps normally last longer than 2 years. If Eurocarparts had to give everyone a free replacement pump after only 2 years there would be little point in selling them.1 point

Makes sense, thanks for the explanation Alex. I have opened a case with the CV team I figure if they are triaging a list of VINs to fix, let me be on the list, at least.1 point

Just a quick Google and eBay have lots of them including the connector if required. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284385872444?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=hvfOf3PRS42&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=c-tOKX7vROe&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY1 point

The first one is the log generator. The second one renames autoinstall.lst to autoinstall.bak to stop it going in a loop. Neither does anything to Sync.1 point

Egr bank 2 is non existent on the 2.3 . There is no bank 2 . That refers to a v6 or V8 etc. 4 cylinder only has 1 bank of cylinders unlike a v6 for example which has 2 banks of 3 cylinders.1 point

Yes check your engine, I have a May 2020 registered Fiesta Vignale which has the later chain driven unit. Easy to check. On the Belt driven ecoboost the Silver Turbo heat shield sits directly at the front as you open the bonnet it's there in front of you, the later engine it's reverse to this.1 point

Standard air filter, but clean The airbox is common across all models, up to 2.0 ST and it doesn't matter what you do, you will never breathe as much air as a 2.0 K&Ns also oil up the MAF sensor1 point

Check and rectify leaks, change transmission fluid, for correct fluid and the filter Do not drive if fluid is low, keep topping up until you can rectify leak Your transmission is DCT450 wet clutch1 point

Well, the DVSA apparently don't know. I guess it's not necessarily a safety issue (other than the risk of cardiac arrest when owners get the bill for a new engine). I doubt Ford will tell us either - what we need is a whistleblower.1 point

Thank you for the update @Jimpster. So now I need to find a way of obtaining a copy of windows 7 for my old Sony laptop and I'm good to go 👍1 point

Interesting that they have extended the 'durability' testing for cars from 5 years to 10 years. I wonder how they'd feel on my 18 year old car! LOL If I drove it for another 18 years, it would still have a lower carbon footprint than buying one new car!1 point

Something specialist like AutoSmart G101 all purpose cleaner or AutoGlym all purpose cleaner. Alternatively, buy some cheap all purpose cleaner from the supermarket for £1 and dilute it 5ml in a 500ml spary bottle1 point

I have it build up on the passenger side, for me I just use a bathroom mouse, spray it on and leave for ten minutes, then use an old toothbrush to get into all the corners & tight spots, then rinse away, after that.... wash the car thoroughly & dry it, regrease all the hinges, always done in an early morning so the mouse doesn't dry up. Using washing up liquid is a bad idea because it contains such high amounts of salt.1 point

I have read various threads about this but I think the gist is that the MK3.5 door modules are not compatible with the MK3 BCM so the lock/unlock signal doesn't work. I ended up converting the blank button underneath the heater controls into a usable button (three little plastic stoppers filed away with a dremel), soldered a wire into the pin socket on the PCB and hooking that wire up to the lock/unlock pin on the front controls connector. The only thing it doesn't have is an indicator LED so the BCM generates error codes in ForScan for the lock indicator LED, but a small price to pay.1 point

I'd expect 300 Bar in the rail at idle so that looks spot on. (100kPa = 1 Bar) I suspect the blue tinge is a bit of a red herring, either excess breather oil or a weep past the turbo oil seal. Main problem is likely to be the injectors imo. Are any of them leaking at the base? If not, I'd want to send them off for internal testing.1 point
