      it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. S Max - Most Unreliable Car

    Hi, Boough A 2007 S-Max 2.0 TDCi Zetec last October, only 23,000 miles. All ratings (Whatcar etc) were 5 star ... but this is the most unreliabl car I have ever owned (and I used to have a Triumph TR6 ... so this is saying something !). Loacl Garage & the AA man look in sympathy when the see the s-max ... they say it is a big customer of theirs. After 10months of ownership : 1. Alarm fault - alarm kept going off for no reason & constand relay clicking when car was stopped ... alarm system replaced. 2. Lights alarm didn't wok - switch replaced. 3. Selecting 1st gear - went into reverse ... gearbox housing replaced. 4. Noisy power steering - full steering rack & pump replaced 5. Boot mechanism jammed ... new electric switch required 6. Bonnet jammed shut & cable snapped - new cable 7. Engine warning problem - Cambus connections all cleaned 8. Dead battery - suspect this is self draining, but this is a WIP 9. Another Alarm needing service error ... a WIP 10. Engine will not start - needs 5/6 attempts (one one in ten restarts) ... AA think I have a fule pump problem - to be sorted 11. Load clunking noise from under the car when tavelling over a bump ... to be sorted. So I make this a frequency og one garage visit per month since I bought it, thank god I got an extended warranty , but I was hopeing to keep for 5 years , but can I afford 60 trips to a garage. How can Forn make a vehilce as terrible as this !?? (NB .. I do love it when it works !!) Disgruntled & dissappointed Rich
  2. First Gear & Reverse

    Hi, Eventually when I spoke to the dealer manager, he saw the problem & agreed this is a safety issue. They replaced the plastic housing for the gearbox (If you remove the leather cover around the gear lever (the square plastic frame just snaps out), then you can see the problem. The plastic frame flexes, allowing reverse gear to be selected) They replaced this frame (and convinced the extended Ford warranty to cough-up) Since then it seems OK. I suspect that if the first gear is pushed hard over to the left (without plling the reverse bit up) , then over years the frame gets distorted. Good luck Rich

    Hi, Just bough an Smax TDCi 2.0 Zetec (2007 model 56). When putting in 1st gear it vet easliy gets into reverse, without pulling up the reverse lever. Keep lurching backwards when pulling away form the lights. Local dealer (not who we bought it from!)says they cannot find a fault. They see it happenong when I show them, and expereince it themselves in my car, and admit it's happening, but say they cannot do anything. They just say I will need to be careful when I put it in 1st & start cautiously !!! I would say this is a safety concern. Could easily lurch backwards into a car, or even worse a child ! Anyone else had this problem ? (NB we are under Ford Protect warranty, but as the dealer says theres nothing wrong,and we must live with this, not sure what to do next)
