Hello Sailor 1969, I hope you got my reply. Pavillion.

    Transmission Malfunction

Hello JaSonic, The output speed sensor is easy to get to once the sump is removed. You should be aware that the CFT23 gearbox has a terrible reputation and if it is broken, and it is not the speed sensor, your chances of fixing it are very slim. Since I'm not that good at attaching things, if you PM me I'll send you an article I wrote some time ago about this gearbox and a few pictures which may help. Pavillion.

Dpf Tank Fill And System Reset

Hello everybody, In my case the two respondants are correct, I had to go to my local dealer for filter regenerate, counter rest and fault clear. Invicta Ford Ashford charged a reasonable £45 to do the job and as far as I know all is now well. We also had recall work done on the car free of charge; this being for a cooling fan fire risk caused by connector corrosion. Pavillion.
  4. Hello everybody. I have recently re-filled the dpf tank under the C-Max and have a small problem. The "engine problem" light was not illuminated before filling so carried out the widely available "turn ignition key and operate filler cap" routine. The "engine problem" light came on at the end of the procedure and now will not go out. There is no error message on the central display, no red light below it and no DTCs are recorded when using the DIY "how to read your DTCs" routine. The car drives just fine. What am I doing wrong? Is there some subtle way of doing the reset sequence or is the procedure for the C-Max different from the Focus one? I think there may be an error at the end of the "filler cap" procedure as it says start the engine and wait for the MIL light on come on then go out. Then switch off the engine and turn the key to posiyion II, confirm the MIL light does not show. Well, unless I'm looking at the wrong light of course it will show as the engine will not be running, i.e. a fault. Also a couple of observations on the filling. I used a Volvo 1.5 litre kit purchased through eBay. 1) The valve that fits on to the supply bottle leaked so much that I cut it off the pipe and used a funnel. 2) The bottle on the overflow connection pipe is air tight and it prevents fluid from coming out, so I had to open it to let air out and allow the fluid to flow through. 3) I put in 800 ml and the car has done about 29,000 miles, so that works out at 27ml per 1000 miles. Given the tank is 1.5 litre (I think) that give a range to empty of about 55,000 miles. I await suggestions about what I'm doing wrong with interest and hope the observations are of use. Pavillion

    Split Turbocharger Outlet Hose

Hello alternator, Have a look at the attached image. If your hose is a part of 6C646B, then I'm afraid it comes as part of a kit and the retail cost is about £195. If it's a different part post a reply and I'll have another look. Pavillion. cmaxintercoolerpipes1.doc

    Split Turbocharger Outlet Hose

Hello, If you post your car details (engine size, year etc.) or the VIN number I can have a look at my Electronic Parts Catalogue and see what I can find. Reply might take a couple of days as not always near this pc. Pavillion.

    Cvt Fault Facts Request.

I and some other souls have a more technical interest in the Ford CFT23 gearbox and its failures. At the risk of being a complete fool, I believe that some of the apparent terminal breakdowns are not necessarily so, however as Ford stonewalls as far as this gearbox is concerned there is no definitive explanation as to what goes wrong inside. I have therefore decided to start this topic to try and collate what facts exist. If you have had a failure, or had a gearbox temporarily showing a problem, could I ask you here to post what you know. I am especially interested in Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). May I be bold and ask that contributor do not post what happened to them, but stick to facts, i.e. fault codes or what the dealer or specialist has actually told you what had gone wrong. I am wary of collating the failure experiences as one person’s interpretation or explanation may be very different from another person’s. If enough people post DTCs, it may be that we can have an educated guess as to what has gone wrong, and whether a fix is possible. I do not want to get peoples’ hopes up as we the general public do not have Ford’s insight and database to use. Whilst none of this will necessarily help those who have already suffered failure it might help those in the future. Thank you, Pavillion.

    Cvt Trans Fluid

Hello John, There are two aftermarket products that I know of; 1) Fuchs Titan ATF CVT, used by a person who has been in touch with me. 2) AutomaticChoice LubeGard CVT, which I have used. Both appear to do the job perfectly well, I have done about 3000 miles since I changed the oil and have had no problems. Don't forget to change the filter within the gearbox as well while your doing the job. Check prices of components and fluid, as the price of the LubeGard seems to have shot up in the last few months. Good luck and feel free to ask questions if you wish. If you do have a go, lets us know how you got on and what you found. Pavillion.

    Pcm Problems

Hello D15GAP, The number you have given does not mean much to me. Have you tried to read the Diagnostic Trouble Codes using the procedure shown on Youtube? If you read and make a note of these the "ether" might be able to help. Pavillion.

    Cvt History And Fluid Change

Hello everybody, There has been a lot of chatter about the CVT gearbox. I have had a go at collating the information available and carried out a fluid change. Rather than write it all here I've attached (I hope) a pdf document. I hope readers find it enlightening and any feed back would be very welcome. I would especially like people to let me know if they have a suspect car and how they're getting on, good or bad. Document revised to cmax4a.pdf 20th September 2010, please see later post below. voice commands

Hello Mr Rugby, I don't know how old your car is but, with all the power off try running a vacuum cleaner over the microphone. I hope this doesn't sound daft but I have a Jaguar with climate, and the aspirator/cabin temperature sensor has to be cleaned from time to time to remove the dust from the sensor. Doug, Ashford.

    Cvt Gearbox

Hello everybody, I have a C-Max 1.6 TDCI CVT Auto. It is a 56 plate, current mileage 23,000 and, so far, it drives very well with no real problems. I have read various websites which tell me the car is a timebomb and I should offload it as soon as possible. I have trawled the internet for hard and fast information and found very little, so I pose a couple of questions to the reader: 1) Does anybody have or know where to find photographs of the Ford ZF CFT23 gearbox? 2) On the Ford on line ETIS, a drain and fill service of the gearbox is stipluated at 75,000 miles/6 years, the entry quotes "LTS 17 115 5", does anybody know what this means and if it is a procedure does anybody have a copy? Thanks, Doug.
