      it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

    Hello everyone,as I am new to the forum,I would like to offer a little gift,a birth sign avitar just 4 you.
  2. Zetec Aux Drive Belt.

    A friend,who lives in Wales,is allways asking me for help to fix his Escort,and as I live in Nottingham,I can't keep "nipping" round to help him.His latest problem was the Auxillary drive belt had snapped,his local motor shop told him there were different sizes,so he contacted me.After confirming he didn't have Air-con,I told him the correct size to buy.He got back to me saying it was too long and couldn't figure how to route it round the pullies and there was no instructions in his manual.So, I sent him this and told him to save it for future reference.

    Hi Sam,Need model of stereo to identify pin outs,however if you just want to check which speaker is connected to a paricular wire,connect a 1.5 battery to the speaker wires and you will here it "click",and if you can see the cone you will see it move.
  4. Rear Seat Belt Problem

    There has been numerous MOT failures here in the UK,the centre seat belt that is inside the fold down seat back is prone to failure,it usually jams solid and is unusable.There are various options,depending on how much you wish to spend to fix it:-Main dealer prices would be expensive,as the seat has to be dismantled,(removing the foam interior etc.,)& this would incur high labour charges.If you are prepared to do the work your self you could install a replacement into the existing seat back,I find the easiest and cheapest is to get a complette one from the breaker's yard,there is lots of them and you should be able to match the colour ok.However,that's the easy part,there is a "key"inserted into the anchor housing which must be disconected,the attachment shows how to do this.It seems to be a "secret"as the dealers don't want you to know about it.Also do not condem the belt until you have made sure that the seat has been "slammed" shut,it is this catch that releases the belt.Good luck!

My first ford was a 1935 Y type and I've owned just about every model since,from V8 Pilot to Zodiac,I saw a recent program on TV about the history of the Escort,it was complettely misleading,it indicated that the 1st Escort was introduced as the MK1,in 1967,however I owned an Escort which was built in 1955.The 1955 Escort was introduced in Sept.,as an estate car,there were two models,Escort (basic)and Squire (de-lux)the Squire had wooden side strips and upgraded interior.They were powered by the 1172cc 10hp side valve engine.Engine numbers Escort 157603 > Squire 155392>.Allthough the side valve unit was not particularly high powered,it was very smooth and quiet,having less moving parts than the OHV engines.

  7. Mp3 Playback

    I have noticed a lot of threads from members wanting to connect a MP3 player to their 5000 RDS radio cassette,there is an easy and cheap way to do this (approx £1.50p) I was considering a cd changer,but decided that it would limit me to the number of music files,where a MP3 Player would give me the option of 100s.So take the top cover off the head unit,you will see the tape pick up and 3 wires (screened) going to the circuit board.You will need a 3.5mm stereo jack socket and a suitable lengh of cable,also an old cassette stripped of all the tape.All you need to do is splice the new wires into the existing ones eg.,red=right,white=left,black=screen.I decided to make it neater by removing the front and mounting the socket on it(6.6mm hole)when conecting the wires to the socket,the tip of the 3.5mm plug is white/left and the middle is red/right.That's it! The empty cassette is the switch,when inserted it will turn the tuner off the same as if you had inserted a normal cassette.Volume can be controlled either by the head unit or the MP3player,I find that the best balance is MP3 volume about 75%,and adjust volume,bass,treble etc.,via the radio.Sound quality is excellent.there is enough power from the MP3 to drive the pre-amp on the board,and the amplification is excellent.Obviously you will need a 3.5mm jack to jack plug to connect your player and it should be long enough for you to change tracks if you need to.The other alternative would be to just feed the wire through the front of the set and connect it to the pick up (not so neat)but works just as well. Good luck. I have had to edit this information because I have discovered a problem that was previously unknown.It appears that the 5000RDS has more than one type of pick up head,one is a normal stereo head with two channels,this is easily modified to enable MP3 playback and the sound quality is excellent.The other is a four channel quad-stereo unit,this will also work but there is considerable sound distortion,so I will have to research this to find the best place to introduce the signal.If you have the 2 channel set,then there is no problem.
