Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Madgy, my Daughters 1988 1.4L Mediteranean Blue Mk 4 Escort has been owned by her late Aunt and her for 11 years, during which time I have progessively fixed everything wrong with her so she starts on the button all year and runs sweet as a nut. Last use was a couple of loaded runs to the Isle of Man from London in the winter and several back and forward to Brighton from London. All trouble free. 110K miles or so. Then was stolen last March for the second time and recovered a month later two blocks away covered in parking stickers by the genius Brighton Police. In the meantime we bought her a hard for the chavs to nick Focus so Madgy is sadly unwanted. Not used much for a year and a half. MOT'd last Xmas, I fixed the theft damage and she is now running beautifully again, was to have been her friend's car but ti didn't happen. This is such a great runner and willing , safe and cheap to insure, I'd love someone who would care for her to have her until she dies. Absolutely sound, has had replacement gearbox, water pump, head off just before we got her. I fixed most of the oil leaks even... she is old and things go wrong so a mechanical family is best. The joy of it is a competent DIYer can keep her going safely, once having mastered the eco carb (same deal as other daughter's Mk1 Golf - just replace all the rubber connecting tubes and set it up per Haynes and you're away :-) Ideas please? Thanks Cattman
  2. hi If you have had this problem you will know the answer, probably not otherwise... My daughter's otherwise 100% roadworthy Mk4 is going to a new owner after being nicked a second time and this time not found by the utterly useless Brighton Police for a month in an inner city parking bay..... it drove home fine. Just about to take it to new owner to be and noticd the horn had ceased working. After checks it was the horn sliding contacts so i had to remove the steering wheel to clean up the contacts. When I put it back on the steering would not move freely, its definitely binding and its harder to move the steered wheels when jacked up with steering wheel on than off. I can't see a problem but suspect its the way the nylon bush behind the wheel is acting on the top bearing - is this a known problem? Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? More info. There is a split Nylon collar on the column shaft behind the steering wheel which is plain fronted on the wheel side and has a tappered shape to locate inside and bear on the inner race of what looks like a taper roller top bearing for the columnn, that's a push fit in the casting. The car was broken into and the steering lock broken in a previous theft a while back. The lock housing and outer casting of the wheel boss is mashed and the lock no longer works as result, however this was not a problem before I tool the wheel off and I can't see how it could be now.....thanks, will take pictures if needed. 01932 772731
  3. New Ford Escort

Here to learn about Escort Mk 5's and which one is best for flat dwelling daughter. Have maintained her Mk 4 Med Blue 3 door for several years , it was her Aunt's before that. It just got knicked in Brighton so replacement has become more pressing and I need to get up to speed fast. Cattman PS if you see a rare 3 Door Mediteranean Blue Mk4 around and its plateless or called F485 NGV call the police for us.. REWARD!
