Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Disable Esp On 5Dr Zetec 1.6 Tdci

When I needed to buy my ESP + front airbag switch, since disabling ESP is not officially an option for my (bottom spec) car the local official Ford dealer (T C Harrison in Derby) had to go out to the car park to note down the registration number of a Titanium model then do a search on the Ford system against that reg no. The price was not a lot so I stuck with getting a genuine Ford part.
  2. Engine Fan Very Loud

I bought my Fiesta 1.6 TDCI back in March last year. Twice now, both on cold (i.e. below zero) mornings when I have reached work and turned off the ignition there has been a burning rubbery smell outside the car, and a cooling fan was on that loud that it was heard 40m away. The 1st time it happened I though OMG WTF, but that was almost a year ago, the car didn't go up in smoke & still runs well. So my guess (= total guess) is that it's related to the DPF regen cycle, but I'd love to know for sure.
  3. Disable Esp On 5Dr Zetec 1.6 Tdci

You did better than I did. I didn't have the part number when I went in and when they could not find the switch listed as an option for my car that was that. No help and no sale.

    Bad luck mate. :(
  5. Disable Esp On 5Dr Zetec 1.6 Tdci

If by TCH you mean T C Harrison Derby then good luck! When I tried to buy a switch from them they said it wasn't listed for my car (2010 1.6TDCi Zetec) so they would not sell me one! I'm interested to know what they do for you.
  6. Disable Esp On 5Dr Zetec 1.6 Tdci

Just a thought. I first realised my car had ESP when provoked it into kicking in on a tight corner on a wet road with full throttle, and the ESP light flashed on. If you can get that to happen then you have ESP :) I do remember somewhere that ESP was only fitted as standard from mid 2010, so you might be unlucky :( ESP now standard across Ford Fiesta range 29 April 2010
  7. Disable Esp On 5Dr Zetec 1.6 Tdci

On my 2010 Zetec 1.6TDCi, nothing happens until I start the engine then press and hold the new button in for a second or so until the centre display shows ESP off (in large friendly letters). Is this different for you?
  8. Disable Esp On 5Dr Zetec 1.6 Tdci

Agreed. This way when ESP is on (and the light is off :) ) it is a good visual warning of when ESP is doing its magic stuff. Although I like being to turn it off sometimes, when it works (like going too fast into a corner and flooring it) it does its stuff really well :D
  9. Disable Esp On 5Dr Zetec 1.6 Tdci

PMSL. I'm not very good at simples But it's obvious when you put it like that. Off means on & on means off :D
  10. Disable Esp On 5Dr Zetec 1.6 Tdci

It does not seem obvious to me that ESP is on all the time because there are occasionally times when I want to play or spin the wheels. Also even Ford know it is best turned off sometimes because they say so in the user manual. The ESP light in the clocks comes on during a wheelspin while ESP is doing its stuff. The (optional extra) ESP off switch does nothing unless I press it. At that point the ESP light in the clocks stays on and bugs me to remind me that I am "at risk" because ESP is off. Seems a good way of doing it to me. :)
  11. Disable Esp On 5Dr Zetec 1.6 Tdci

Wow, this thread has been going for a while now :D I got to try with and without ESP recently on snow and ice. I must admit that ESP = on was not as bad as I thought it would be as it did not totally cut power when the wheels started spinning on ice. Nevertheless it was worth fitting the ESP off switch. On one fairly steep hill with 95% snow cover, if I had not been able to turn off ESP and really spin the wheels I might not have got up the hill and reached home. Well worth the £32. :)
  12. Mk7 FIesta

    err its my Mk7 Fiesta
  13. Disable Esp On 5Dr Zetec 1.6 Tdci

Here's my current favorite !Removed!. Disabling Auto Wipers For Good The Auto-wipers get confused by dirt & flies, and are not designed to be used during snow or when the roads have been salted (information source UK Fiesta manual page 39), but instead of keeping the intermittent wipe function that can work in all conditions Ford removed it. I'd pay to be able to go back to just intermittent wipe if I knew what needed replacing.
  14. Disable Esp On 5Dr Zetec 1.6 Tdci

See post 34 for a list of part numbers, and my post 47 for info on who sold the switch to me. When I got a PAD switch fitted, switch 1514081 was replaced with 1513292. It was done by Geoff Cox of Denby, Derbyshire
  15. Disable Esp On 5Dr Zetec 1.6 Tdci

One more related comment...... Although a local Ford dealer refused to even sell me an ESP off switch, when I got a PAD switch fitted, another local Ford dealer had no problems with supplying me with an ESP switch + Passenger Airbag Deactivation warning light assembly. Not exactly a consistent approach but at least I got what I really wanted. :D
