Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Hi everyone, Recently purchased a 2009 Ford Focus Zetec LV with the 2.0 Duratec engine. 101,000 km on the clock (I'm in Australia). Have only had the car for two days and everything seemed to check out on the test drive. I noted the coolant level was at a tad low when I bought it. Car has been driving fine since I've owned it. Checked the coolant again today and there was a white froth that had built up on top of it (see photos - apologies for poor quality, night here). The oil checks fine and there are no overheating issues. The only thing I can think of is a slight burning smell through the vents under hard acceleration which disappears after a second or so. Is this a headgasket failure? I've only had the car two days (purchased pivately) and I'd be gutted. Thanks all!
  2. Bumper Scrape!!

Gah! I was backing into my driveway today to repair the wing mirror, and I misjudged the distance from the garage wall and resulted in a deep gash to my rear bumper!! Needless to say I was on the verge of tears and absolutely fuming, I've only owned the car for 2 weeks! God I've been driving for 2 years now and I still messed up on the most basic of manoeuvres! Anyway, the appearence of the car right now is quite ugly and I would like to do a self touch up/repair job of it as I'm not prepared to fork out £80 + for an 8 year old car (and my first car owned by me). I'm not looking for a 100% match job, just something which will make the appearance to the naked eye much more pleasant. I don't know if the paint is metallic or not (its a 2003 Focus Ink in Blue), and I've heard filling the scratches and wet-sanding the damaged area down can lead to clearcoat scratches which are impossible to remove. Could anyone guide me or point me in the direction of a step by step guide to getting this sorted!
  3. Wind/air Leak

Hi, I opened up the wing mirror today and noticed two things upon comparing it to the mirror on the other side. 1 - The square piece of foam behind the triangle bezel on the interior was missing (this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-GENUINE-FORD-FIESTA-EXTERIOR-WING-MIRROR-FOAM-PAD-/290530048779?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43a4f0bb0b) 2 - Upon removing the mirror itself on the exterior, the wing mirror baseplate foam was all tacky and half torn It looks like somebody has replaced the mirror and placed no foam back. I tore off the battered foam that was behind the baseplate. Now my question is can I just place clear silicon around the border of the baseplate and firmly attach it on and not have to worry about placing foam there as well, and would I need to place foam inside the triangular plastic bezel on the interior as that is missing. Sorry if this is unclear, if so I can provide photos
  4. Locking Wheel Nut Key

ahhh im with you now. None of this socket stuff made any sense to me. I have a set in the garage. Now the next problem - I don't have anything to grip the socket while i hammer the nut out of it...any ideas? Maybe put the car on top of the socket while I hammer it out lol?
  5. Wind/air Leak

okay...you've stumped me. Are we talking about the grey piece of sponge/foam that is glued to the inner side of the door between the door and wing mirror, or actually upon removing the actual wing mirror and triangular shaped plastic bezel (upon which the remote control for the mirror is situated) there is another foam that is not visible until after opening the wing mirror?
  6. Wind/air Leak

if it is the driver door causing the problem i.e. rubber weatherseals or the foam behind the wing mirror, what would explain the breeze when I was sitting in the rear seat?
  7. Wind/air Leak

The foam seal...you have jogged my memory. I do remember the grey foam seal was slightly hanging off. Maybe the upper 5-6mm is not stuck on anymore. Whereas the passenger side is firmly attached. About removing the door seal. Still learning about cars, only just started off (this is my first car), do you mind maybe showing me exactly which part you are talking about. I will try sticking the foam seal back up. Would super glue do the trick, or am I naive to suggest that? Thanks for the prompt reply!
  8. Wind/air Leak

Hi all, Just purchased a used Ford Focus 1.6. Amongst other minor problems this seems to be the most annoying :@ When I am driving at speed, around 50 mph +, this irritating noise begins to come from the driver side door, as though a window is open. I've checked all the windows and I've checked the seals. To my knowledge, these seem all intact with no obvious rips or disconnections. I was sitting in the back seat of the car on one journey and I discovered there was actually a breeze/draft of some sort coming in through what seemed to be the rear window (it is a 3 door so I can't actually check for any seals on the rear window). I've taken it to a garage and they've said tape up the door and rear window with insulation tape and drive around and remove the tape piece by piece until the sound returns. I find this will be a time consuming and possibly pointless process, especially being on the driver side...and me being 6 ft 3 its gonna be a bit of a struggle to get into the drivers seat through the passenger side. Another Ford specialist garage I went to today was going to charge me £30 just for diagnostics which I'm not prepared to pay until I know its a problem worth fixing. Could somebody please point me in the right direction as to what it possibly could be?
  9. Locking Wheel Nut Key

Hey mate thanks for the reply! Been busy past few days trying to find a solution to another problem I have discovered with my Focus! Could you point me in the right direction for a set of these sockets. I heard that to remove these locking nuts from the socket after you have unscrewed them is a pain in the !Removed!, many saying you require a vice?
  10. Locking Wheel Nut Key

Hi everyone :) New to these forums, but hopefully a start of something new! I became the proud owner of my first proper car last week, a 2003 Ford Focus 1.6 Ink 3 Door :D Mechanically it is perfect, and general condition is great for three former keepers, so first impressions of owning a Ford motor is great! One small gripe though, the locking wheel nut adaptor is missing from my car, so I'm now in a position where I pay £20 for removal and then the cost of getting new nuts put on, or try and find my key. I've searched the car in and out, I've been to two local Ford garages who both fobbed me off saying they don't have master keys for my age of car. Upon looking on eBay, my memory was struck - when I was cleaning out the rear of my car where the spare tyre is located, I came across a polyethene bag which was all black and torn, but I did remember reading the word "Black" on there with a black circle next to it. Then I came across this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220799728445 (apologies to any mods if we are not allowed to link). I noticed that all these wheel nut adaptors that have a colour coding of a circle on the bag (e.g. brown circle, yellow, green etc.) all begin with 830919 with only the last 2 digits varying (green is 15 IIRC). Am I reading too much into this or is that the correct code for my locking wheel nut? Though the listing says "Capri 2-3 + Sierra 1-2) will this be compatible with my Focus? If that is the case, I could stick in a bid for this and save myself about 30-40 quid on removal and replacement if this key should work, plus I get four spare if I ever need them. Sorry for the long-winded post, but hey, it makes for some good reading ;D
