    Aa 5* Extended Warranty

Thanks for the replies; what I really need to know before I decide on which company to use for Breakdown Cover is personal experiences with claims, and what companies were good and what companies were hassle. We can all quote anecdotes and advertising splurge from the web but that is not real life experiences in making a claim. If you have made a claim, what was the experience like in making that claim, let us all know and name the insurer, good or bad, that way we may get better cover in the future.

    Aa 5* Extended Warranty

Just had a quote from Warranty Direct, £919.63! for 3 years cover. Yes you may get wear and tear cover but look at the price as apposed to AA at £399 for 3 years but no wear and tear.

    Diesel Vs Petrol?

Having followed some of the tags, I am now unsure if there are savings to be had by buying a diesel car over a petrol car. As I see it. :-- Diesel Pros. Lower road fund licence. More MPG. More torque. Diesel cons. Higher purchase price Higher fuel cost. (about 10p per ltr.) Higher maintenance cost (£1000+ for a DPF @ 75k?). Over an 8-10 year period, do you save by having a diesel? Or have I missed something? (Willing to learn).
  4. Hi Pidu, I have just checked my Focus Mk. 2.5 2008 Titanium. Lights on Auto, then Ignition on. No daylight running lights! Where did you get your information about DRL from? I am not sure what lead you are refering to. I have Googled Ford factory fit DLR and drawn a blank. Maybe this is not a UK spec.
  5. Are you saying that if the lighting switch is left on Auto mode before turning on the ignition (assuming that is an option on your car), that you will have daylight running lights using a low power dipped beam?

    Diesel Vs Petrol?

Thanks for all your thoughts. Having read all the replies, I now know a lot more about the advantages and disadvantages of diesel and petrol engines. But now it looks like there is a better alternative to both, the Ford petrol EcoBoost engine, providing it is reliable and not too costly to maintain, time will tell.

    2011/2012 Focus Trend Automatic Doorlock

Do you live in such a dangerous area to need this level of security? Or is there some other reason you want to keep all the car doors locked when you are driving? Having all the doors locked if or when you have an accident is not a good idea! Maybe we just live a sheltered life in the country.

    Diesel Vs Petrol?

Hi Rog, I was thinking more along the lines of a diesel v petrol in the same car, ie, a Focus deisel or petrol of the same engine size and age, not 2 different size cars and different ages. This would give a more accurate comparison to running costs, I am sure any Fiesta is going to be more economical to run than an older 1.8 Volvo. I am not biased in any way, just interested and want to be well informed when I next change my car. Norman.

    Head Restraint Alternative

Thanks for all the sugestions, still no luck getting my wife comfortable without reversing the head restraint. I may have to do what I did with my elderly Mondeo and chop her in for a more recent model. (Only joking), a trip to the scrap yard sometime to try to find another head restraint that is more upright and that will fit the car may be the only answer.

    Head Restraint Alternative

I have a 2008 Focus Mk 2.5 (facelift) Estate, The head restraints are not comfortable, they push your head forward more than the head restraints on the pre 2008 cars; has anybody fitted the flatter head restraint from a pre 2008 car? or know if they would fit? The distance apart centre to centre of the rods that go into the seat is 15cm. I am aware that these newer head restraints are to help to prevent wiplash, and it is possible to reverse the existing head restraints, but that is not good for the rear seat passengers having a facefull of reversed head restraint.
  11. I had the same problem with the remote intermitantly not working on my 1999 Mondeo, (Now gone). it was caused by water getting into the electrics of the centeral locking, if this is the case with yours, replacing the key will not solve the problem. Just use the keys manualy and save youself the cost of replacing the keys. A 12 year old car is on borrowed time and I would not spend unnecessary money on it. I am sorry if that suond harsh but cars don't last for ever.

    Head Restraint Alternative

Hi Nigel, I am sure mine on a 2008 Titanium Estate protrude further than on earlier cars, but I could be wrong as I have only looked at other cars from a distance, they are much further forward than on my old 1999 Mondeo, Do yo know if the head restraints on the two cars you have are interchangable? Regards, ndsussex.

    Head Restraint Alternative

Thanks Steads, for your reply, yes I am aware of the insurance implicaions, but my wife has a back problem and is unable to travel in the car with the existing head restraints, I may try a back cushion to move the body forward and away from the head restraint. Apparantley it is even more of a problem in a Honda.
