Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Stupid Oil Change Questions.

Probably just over an hour in total. I was taking it slowly trying to make sure I did everything right. I left it draining for a good 15-20 minutes, the majority flowed out in less than a minute, but then there was a slow trickle and then dripping for ages. It was a bit of a struggle getting the filter off, it's not in the most accessable of places, but eventually I managed to get it to turn using all my force! (I'm not very strong). I quite enjoyed doing it actually, it's a nice feeling to know that you've done it yourself. I'm looking forward to doing it again next year, lol.
  2. Stupid Oil Change Questions.

Thanks for all your help guys, I did it on saturday and everything went well. I actually work for a ford main dealer (in the office, don't know much about cars) so I got all the parts inc oil from here so they certainly should be the correct stuff.
  3. Stupid Oil Change Questions.

Thanks for all the responses guys, and especially to FOCA for that epic answer! they've been very helpful. I will take the cap off and I think i'll fill up with most of the oil while still on the ramp then reverse off and top up as neccessary as BigD suggested. I tried to buy a new washer, but I had to buy the bolt as well as they don't sell them seperate! Cost 7 quid! :-O but I got it anyway, better to be safe than sorry I suppose.
  4. I'm planning on doing my first solo oil change on my old mark 2 mondeo at the weekend and I've got a couple of stupid questions. I'm using ramps to give me better access to the underside of the vehicle, firstly, should you remove the oil filler cap before you start draining the old oil? Does it make any difference? Second question, once i've drained the oil and changed my filter, I'm going to want to reverse the car off the ramps before filling up with fresh oil. Is is ok to start the car and reverse it off the ramps when the car doesn't have any oil in it? or will such a short move not cause a problem? Thannks in adavance, any other tips would be welcome.
  5. Cam Or Chain Belt

Thanks for the replies. I've got it changed now and it only cost me £140! I actually work for a Ford main dealer and even with my staff discount it would have cost me nearly double that.
  6. Cam Or Chain Belt

Hi guys, I'm in the process of buying a mondeo and i'm not sure if its a chain belt or not? Can anyone help? It's a 2000 (W), LX, A/C 2.0 Petrol Hatchback. It's only done 50,000 miles, but it is nearly 12 years old. Does anyone know if it would be chain? and either way, when it will need changing. Thanks
