      it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Rear Light question MK3.5

    The Central Car Configuration of the Focus MK3/MK3.5 is stored in both the BCM (Body Control Module) and the IPC (Instrument Cluster). The main CCC file is stored in the BCM and the backup CCC file is stored in the IPC. The BCM is connected to the HS (High Speed) CANbus network and can be diagnosed using a standard ELM327 interface. The IPC is connected to the MS (Mid Speed) CANbus network and can not be diagnosed using a standard ELM327 interface. This can only be done with a modified ELM327 interface which has a switch to switch between the HS CANbus and the MS CANbus network. Because the IPC only contains the backup CCC file and not the main CCC file it is not really needed to change this file. The system uses the main CCC file to configure all modules and settings. Keeping the backup file original will not affect any of the changes made in the main CCC file. However I personally prefer to have both the main and backup CCC file to be identical.
  2. Engine managment light

    I have seen this problem a few times before. In these cases the problem was caused by low quality fuel. On these cars I solved the problem by updating the PCM software to the latest version and told the owners to use better quality fuel. The 1.0 ECOboost is very sensitive for quality and octane rating of the fuel. Sometimes even the brand of fuel can make a huge difference.
  3. On the Focus MK2/MK2.5 the electronic throttle pedal is not connected to the PCM. It is connected to the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster converts the PWM signal of the electronic throttle pedal to a CANbus signal and transmits this signal to the PCM. The instrument cluster is also responsible for the throttle response (which can be improved by configuring the car as an automatic and selecting "Sport"). Throttle pedal related DTC codes are often caused by the classic instrument cluster problem that is caused by cracked soldering connections. I have seen this many times before.
  4. Rear Light question MK3.5

    The FoCCCus program was never updated for the Focus MK3.5. When Ford released the Focus MK3.5 the original developer of the FoCCCus program stopped developing the program. The original developer had no intentions to update the program for the Focus MK3.5. Version 0.8.5 is the latest version that was released by the original developer. Some other persons wanted to update the program for the Focus MK3.5. They got the approval of the original developer and developed Version 0.8.6. This version has limited support for the early Focus MK3.5. However after a short period Ford changed the hardware numbers of the MK3.5 IPC and BCM. These vehicles are not supported by the FoCCCus program. The Forscan program or the Ford IDS diagnostic system are much more suitible for the Focus MK3.5.
  5. IDS automatically selects the correct update file if an update is available. it is not possible to select a VBF file manually.
  6. Swapping to alloys (size help)

    Original Ford 7,5 x 17 Inch wheels are very rare. Most original Ford wheels are 7 x 17 inch. Some are even 6.5 x 17 Inch. A 225-45-17 tyre fits perfectly on a 7 x 17 Inch wheel. When using a different size tyres than approved/prescribed by the manufacturer you should be aware that this is illegal in some countries. With different size tyres that are not approved the car no longer conforms to the European type approval . This can have pretty big consequenses. In case of an accident the insurance can use this to not have to pay. In Germany and Belgium for example different sized tyres are only allowed after an individual acceptance inspection by a notified body.
  7. The center bore of Ford wheels is 63,3 mm. The center bore of peugeot wheels is 65,1 mm. When installing peugeot wheels on a Ford you need 65,1 mm --> 63,3 mm spigot rings (hub centric rings). As already said you must absolutely use the correct wheelnuts. Ford wheelnuts are not suitible for Peugeot wheels. When using suitible spigot rings and correct wheelnuts it is absolutely safe to use these wheels. However the large offset difference can cause the wheel bearings to fail prematurely.
  8. Swapping to alloys (size help)

    Both 205-55-16 and 215-55-16 are correct sizes for the Focus MK3 with 16 Inch wheels. Which tyre size is installed has nothing to do with the engine type. Steel wheels did always have tyre size 205-55-16. Alloy wheels did either have tyre size 205-55-16 or 2015-55-16. Whether the car has tyre size 205-55-16 or 215-55-16 depends on the trim level in most European countries. When I bought my 1.0 ECOboost it did have the original (optional) factory fitted 215-55-16 Goodyear four-season tyres.
  9. mk3 model config query

    Whether a car has drum brakes or disc brakes depends on the market (country) the car is built for. The country representative / importer specifies the configuration. In most European countries the Focus MK3 / MK3.5 has rear disc brakes as standard. However in some countries the lower HP versions or lower trim levels have rear drum brakes (probably to reduce costs). My German spec. 125 HP 1.0 ECOboost hatchback has rear discs.

The original Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system consists of a seperate CANbus module (Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module) that communicates with several CANbus modules (for example the radio and the instrument cluster). The Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module only works if combined with a suitible original radio. The system will not work with an aftermarket radio. When installing an aftermarket radio you will loose the Bluetooth and Voicecontrol functionality. The original microphone is not suitible for any aftermarket radio. The original microphone has a completely different electrical resistance.
  11. Recently my 5 Inch FCDIM (display) stopped recognising the SD-card once in a while and the PDC / Active Park Assist sometimes froze. I was quite annoyed with it so I decided to replace the FCDIM. After some research I discovered that the latest generations of the 5 Inch FCDIM directly support a rear view camera. There is no longer the need to install the (original or Russian aftermarket) rear view camera module. After some searching I found a latest generation 5 Inch FCDIM with part number F1BT-18B955-DC. The display was advertised as being in mint condition and came from a 2017 Fiesta. This part number was officially never used in a Focus MK3. However comparing/cross referencing part numbers suggested that this part number should be fully backwards compatible with my old FCDIM with part number BM5T-18B955-DC. I took a gamble and ordered the FCDIM. Latest generation versions of the 5 Inch FCDIM can be identified by the green 4-pole Rosenberger (also called Fakra) HSD connector for the camera input. Older versions of the 5 Inch FCDIM have a white normal Fakra connector for the camera input. After I installed the FCDIM I decided to test the rear view camera input first before ordering a suitible rear view camera. I activated the rear view camera function in the Central Car Configuration and used my camcorder as an input. As expected the rear view camera functionality works perfectly. I ordered a suitible NTSC rear view camera and some components to build an Rosenberger HSD --> RCA adapter cable. When these arrive I can finish this project. When I installed new FCDIM I discovered that the matt chrome trim on the steering wheel showed some minor bubbles. When I investigated the problem I immediately cut my finger on the razor sharp edge of the chrome. This is a well known problem on the Focus MK3. I decided to remove the steering wheel airbag to search for a possible solution for this problem. The matt chrome trim has several tabs at the back which are plastic welded to the airbag cover. To be able to remove the matt chrome trim I carefully drilled the plastic weldings. After I removed the matt chrome trim from the airbag cover the problem turned out to be even bigger than I expected. On the top end of the trim the matt chrome was completely loose and could easily be peeled off. In my opinion this is caused by a fault in the manufacturing process. The plastic part is not properly finished before it was chromed. The plastic trim has pretty sharp casting edges at the top. These are no longer visible after chroming. However the layer of chrome is a lot thinner on top of the casting edges. I suspect that during time the chrome cracks and comes loose as a result of temperature differences. Unfortunately the matt chrome trim is part of the airbag assembly and not available as a spare part. The only option from Ford is a brand new airbag. Some Asian (mostly Chinese) companies offer replacement airbag covers. However after I read several bad reviews it was pretty clear that this was no option for me. So I decided to remove the chrome from the trim. Because of the shape of the part mechanically removing the chrome is no option so I decided to remove the chrome chemically. The trim is made of a plastic alloy of PC/ABS which has a very good resistance for several chemicals. After some experiments I ended up with regular bleach. However this is pretty time consuming and the bleach needs to be changed every 24 Hours to be optimally effective. After 4,5 days the layer of chrome and the layer of copper underneath were completely gone. However the trim was still covered with a black coating which I suspect was used to properly bond the copper to the plastic. This coating could not be removed with bleach. After some experiments hydrochloric acid turned out to do the job perfectly. The result was a perfectly clean trim that was ready for further processing. The black coating arround the tabs at the back of the trim was applied at the factory to prevent the chrome from bonding on the tabs. None of the cehmicals I used did affect this coating. After considering several options I decided to paint the trim using metallic silver spraypaint. This is actually the same color as my wheels. I applied 2 layers of primer, 2 layers of metallic silver and several layers of laquer. The result turned out really nice. The paint has a nice deep shine and looks absolutely stunning. I installed the trim onto the airbag cover by inserting all tabs of the trim into the corresponding holes of the airbag cover. Afterwards I used hotglue to fixate the tabs. I am very pleased with the result. The trim looks stunning and the materials to achieve this result only costed me less than €20,-.
  12. You should start using a more recent Ford IDS version. Also note that "car configuration parameters" are for CCC (Central Car Configuration) based vehicles. Most USA Ford models are still fully AS-BUILT configured and do not have a CCC.
  13. SYNC 1.1 APIM module configuration

    The windows need to be initialized. This can be done by performing the procedure that is listed in the owners manual. Recently Spotify stopped supporting the Ford SYNC system. You either have to accept this or you have to install an older Spotify version on your phone.

    That is because Spotify suddenly stopped supporting the Ford SYNC systems. SYNC is not the only system that is no longer supported by Spotify. Spotify also stopped supporting several Smart TV's and Media Players.
  15. If you want more power you should sell the car and buy yourself a more powerful one. Getting considerably more power out of a naturally aspirated engine is perfectly possible but also very expensive. Just a cold air intake will not bring much extra power (if not done correctly you will even loose power). Despite being a naturally aspirated engine the 1.6 Duratec engine has quite some potential. However quite some modifications needs to be performed to gain a relative low amount of power. * Performance exhaust system or custom made performance exhaust system (including exhaust manifold and cat). * Modified/optimized air intake (air filter, intake manifold, ported cilinder head, enlarged throttle body, etc.). * Performance camshafts. * Adjustable camshaft timing sprockets. * Custom remap. With these modifications it is possible to achieve aproximately 125 to 130 HP. Be aware that this type of engine (like many other Ford engines) generally has slightly more horsepower than specified by Ford. There are many examples of stock 1.6 Duratec engines that have approximately 108 to 112 HP (mine did have 109 HP).
