Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. If i were to get a petrol i know there would be no auto option, and i know that i don’t want the old 1.6 version, id rather have the ecoboost engine. i have noticed that there are 2 versions of the 1.6 ecoboost engine. Is there any way of telling which is the higher powered one of the 2 other than driving them? Are there no visual clues like the old 1.6 and the TiVCT 1.6? also iv driven the 1.0 (high powered version) focus which my uncle has and love it. Does it feel just as spritly in the grand c-max or would either 1.6 ecoboosts be better?
  2. i agree with what your saying Jethro but i dont want to feel like its struggling. i recently got 130KG worth of IKEA shelves in the back of the civic and it still pulled like a train. anyone who has had the pleasure of driving a Honda 2.2 diesel will know what im trying to say. i also bought a set of 17" wheels and tyres for my Forfour, and had my wife and daughter in the car and again, again pulled like a train. whats the auto box like? is it a duel clutch job?
  3. Jethro, my mother dearest CANT get a motability car, her disability allowance isnt at that bracket to allow a car. only the diesels are available in auto, why i dont know... what are the petrols like. id rather have an ecoboost over an older engine, dont want to have issues like we had with our 1.6 TiVCT focus saloon. again i dont want it to feel under powered when carrying 6. i work in wakefield so i could take it once a week to regen the DPF
  4. its been a while since iv been here but i could possibly be returning to the ford ownership. currently we have a 2004 Smart Forfour which is my pride and joy which is my 'forever car' and a 2009 Honda Civic 2.2 diesel (which replaced the problem 2005 1.6 Focus saloon we had) which is my mums car. in the next few months we well need a 7 seater but the Galaxy and S-Max are both out of the question as they are too big for my mum to drive which brings me to 1 of 2 cars im considering, the Nissan Qashqai+2 and the Grand C-Max. i signed up to a Qashqai forum but the welcome and advice was far from helpful and has put me off the Nissan somewhat. and the fact that the Qashqai+2 was made for about 3/4 years before being dropped, makes it hard to find one locally. so... there are a couple of questions i want to ask about the Grand C-Max. out of the 2 diesels that im thinking about, will the 1.6 feel under powered when it has 6 passengers or would the 2.0 be a better option? given that we have a 2.2 Civic diesel which is a phenomenal car for performance, it pulls from nothing in every gear with 5 passengers. and has anyone bought a tuning box for the 1.6 and does it feel better to drive over standard? as my mum is disables but cant get a motability car, im also considering an auto. are there any issued with an auto i need to know about? its more her right foot thats the issue and not having to lift off to change gear may help her to a certain degree i know both the 1.6 and 2.0 diesels have DPF's and am aware that they will need a run on the motorway every now and then, which doesnt bother me.
  5. its been a while since iv been here as my parents don't have the MK2 Focus saloon anymore, but my mate has a MK3 with an issue that has both of us stumped. so he has had it a little over a year now and it was originally a write off, cat d i think. the points of impact were right rear corner, left front corner, and some floor damage. he had issues with a boost control solenoid which he fixed. it was traced back to the ECU connectors that had been damaged (he could pull the pins out of the connector with ease), possibly in the impact. wiring and connectors were replaced and all seemed well, until a few months back. whilst him and his wife were on there way to Nottingham, the car went in to restricted performance, the warning 'engine system service' was on the dash. the ignition was cycled and he carried on. when he got back to Leeds, he asked us to plug my laptop in to see what codes were logged. no codes were logged. whilst his wife was coming back from her parents in Castleford the same happened, i then plugged my Bluetooth dongle in and again no codes. i told him to keep a eye on when it happens and under what conditions. his wife, and so did he, noticed that the cooling fans sometimes come on at full chat when the engine is switched off after a run or would come on full when the car was started from cold, but its intermittent. i plugged ANOTHER code reader, a snap on reader and again, blank. he did replace the thermostat as he was saying that it was taking forever to warm up, but that was in December and its still the same with the new one fitted. i did tell him that diesels take a long time to warm up in winter but he didn't listen, anyhow i cant see how there would be an air lock in the system as it would have worked its way out with the mileage his wife is doing going to and from Castleford every other week it seems. i think the accident could have had caused form of damage on the ECU, but that would mean getting a replacement ECU and getting it coded to the car. and he doesn't really fancy doing that if its still the same.
  6. MK3 1.6 focus fuel filter bleading

he eventually figured out what was wrong. part of the long plastic stalk that goes in to the plastic top was broken in the old filter
  7. MK3 1.6 focus fuel filter bleading

he managed to get fuel through the filter but its !Removed! fuel out the bottom... we blew through the filter and there was air coming out the bottom... blew through the old filter and nothing through the bottom, so im going to get another filter and try again
  8. its been a long time since i been here, reason being we got rid of our mk2 1.6 tivct focus saloon for a 2.2 diesel civic as the saloon was going to cost us too much to repair with its engine problems. any how one of my mates has bought a mk3 1.6 tdci and asked me to get him some service bits (all the filters basically) he's a bike mechanic and he replace the fuel filter and asked me to bring the diesel fuel priming pump from my work to blead it, after about 1/2 hour trying, no fuel was coming up. we went to his work to get the syringe they use to suck fuel out of bike tanks and still nothing. the fuel filter only has 2 connections, 1 going to the fuel rail and 1 im guessing from the tank. is it just a case of keep at it with the hand pump/syringe or would it be easier to vacuum suck it using a pela 6000 oil extractor?
  9. have you put the right calliper on the right side?
  10. Headlights: Driving Abroad

do you have projection lens headlights fitted? if so you will have a lever inside the headlight to flatten the flick to the left. if not then the stickers will do the same.
  11. 1.6 To 1.8 Engine Swop

dont forget to tell the DVLA of the engine swap
  12. my mate tried that with his brothers impreza and he said that the clutch didnt slip. i told him to put it in 5th at 30 and floor it it slipped
  13. best way to check for a slipping clutch is to put it in 5th at 30 and floor it. if the revs rise faster than the speed, the clutch is knackered.
  14. no fuel filter fitted to the ti-vct engine. i say stop being tight and tank it and then see what your getting. my mums saloon gets 27-30 MPG round town and a tank last about 300-325 miles
