      it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Hi all Had my 2012 Focus 1.6 diesel for over a year now and 21000 miles but the same thing keeps bugging me. When I’m pulling away in first gear I find the accelerator feels very disengaged from the engine and the drive-by-wire system gets in the way. I will explain... I press the clutch, choose 1st gear and bring the clutch up whilst giving it some revs (not many because it’s a diesel, say 1000+). This is when sometimes the engine revs up to 2000- 2500 rpm and if I let the clutch out at the normal rate the car races forward. The only way I have found to counteract this is to lift of the accelerator and press the clutch back in and start again. If I pull away and give it no revs the engine is very sluggish and I get hardly any throttle response. This is what I mean by being disengaged because I know it doesn’t have a cable any more but is run by the ECU. Now I can drive fine. I’ve been doing it for over 10 years and I’ve driven lots of diesels in the time but this is starting to get to me and the only reason it does is because I get to drive a brand new 1.6 tdi VW caddy in which I have no problem. So my question really is does anyone who owns or drives a new shape 1.6 diesel focus have trouble with standing starts because of the accelerator suddenly revving?

    I agree. I used to have a mini cooper s clubman and got 45mpg average doing a mix of motorway and town driving. It had 170bhp and if i drove carefully on the motorway on a long journey it got mid 50's easily. I know it was lighter but the wheels were alot wider. Bit disapointed with my new 1.6tdi focus. Was expecting 60mpg at the least but all i get is 53mpg and the display claims im a eco champion??????

  4. 2011 Ford Focus Mk3 1.6 Tdci Re-Map

    Was thinking of having it done too. Checked out some tuning boxes but they want nearly £400 so for the same price a remap is the best option. I'd say go for it if you have spare funds. I've had remaps before and they make engines much more free and driveable. You can feel how de-tuned the 1.6tdi is.
