Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. St170 Engine Rebuild Project...

Hi, The engine I am rebuilding has seen over 70,000 miles - I did not see it run and have no idea if it was burning oil etc - as it is now all apart, I thought it a good idea to replace all the parts that wear. No re-bore, just std sized rings. I have had some problems with the usual OE suppliers not wanting to quote for ST170 rings - I have assumed (maybe incorrectly) that they are a different spec to the standard 2.0L rings - are they ??? Or can I just bung in a standard ring set ?? Anyway, any advice appreciated.... :D
  2. Hi Chaps & Chapesses, I am well into an ST170 rebuild project and have gotten over my initial disaster of a bent conrod (see another post) by getting another short engine ! Well now, I am in need of a set of piston rings - could any of you kind folk point in the direction of a decent supplier ? I know Burton Power, but does anyone know anyone else I could try ? Thanks
  3. St170 Conrod Lengths - Cylinder No. 1

Hi, Thanks for all the possibilities - the head is immaculate, no signs of any damage or repairs. Top of piston also clean as a whistle so (unless changed) no obvious damage. So I don't think a dropped valve. I attach a photo of the bend rod next to a straight one ! See if you can spot the difference :) Cheers
  4. St170 Conrod Lengths - Cylinder No. 1

Thanks Stef, I have to say I have never come across a curved conrod before, it is quite like a banana !! Engine must have been vibrating like a good 'un and compression / power down in No.1. Oh well, new conrod by the looks of it then. Any recommendations where to source one ?
  5. Hi, I am a newbie, so be gentle ! Just bought an 2003, Mk1 Focus ST170 silvertop engine for a complete overhaul and rebuild (115,000 on the clock), to go into my kitcar. Spent a very happy weekend stripping it down and all looks to be in good shape.... however, I have just removed the pistons and conrods and noticed that cylinder no. 1 has a slightly curved conrod, which is approx 2.5mm shorter than the other 3. I noticed that at TDC, cylinder no. 1 did not rise as far as no. 4, and the shorter curved conrod would certainly explain that. Can anyone explain what this is all about, why is it curved and shorter than the others ? .... OR have I got a very dodgy conrod ??? Thanks
