Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Sync 3 Navigation - road speed limit

Thanks for all your help. The system is definitely set up for mph, to be fair I think a few spurious signs are to be expected and at least the ones I'm getting are very clearly incorrect. You are right about a dealer trip being needed but to try and go armed with information I rang the Ford UK technical information line (£1 a minute!!) and after going off and searching (fortunately they rang me back, I didn't have to hold on) the answer is that it used to work as I expect in Sync 2 but they don't know how it Is designed to work on a focus with sync 3! It's booked in with the dealer at the beginning of May so I'll report back then.
  2. Sync 3 Navigation - road speed limit

Chris - thanks for the information, that's very helpful, I now know it should work! By an issue with my setup do you mean you have an option to turn on using map data when a sign hasn't been seen? I have checked all the menus. There are no options in the Sync 3 sat nav set up to do this and on the small information screen the only options I have for the traffic sign recognition are on or off and then at what speed over the speed limit should it warn me. Thanks
  3. The sync 3 sat nav on my late (December) 2016 focus titanium x doesn't display the road speed limit, which I hope it's supposed to, and I'm trying to work out why. The pictures showing the navigation screen displaying the speed limit seems to have disappeared from the Ford UK web site so I'm not sure whether that functionality was ever delivered as part of sync 3. The issue is slightly complicated as I have traffic sign recognition (best yet is it saying it's seen a 120mph sign) and I'm not sure how the two are supposed to interact in sync 3. My Focus was ordered in August from the previous brochure (sync 2) which said there was full integration between the sign recognition and the sat nav so that if no speed limit sign was seen the speed limit from the sat nav map would be displayed. This doesn't happen with mine - I can drive round for ages in a 30 limit and unless it sees a sign nothing is displayed. So, I'd be grateful if anyone with sync 3 sat nav could advise whether the speed limit is displayed and if anyone has the sat nav and the traffic sign recognition could let me know what they get displayed and where (nav screen or traffic sign recognition display) I can decide whether I have a faulty system. Many thanks for your help. Ian
  4. New Focus turned me in to an L driver!

Well, back from the dealer, who to be fair spent some time with me and was helpful, but the bottom line is there is no fault and I just have to learn to live with it. This 'feature' that's been causing me a problem is caused by the overall trend to make cars easier to drive by including anti-stall etc. So it seems the only way to go back to good 'old fashioned' driving is to buy a car aimed at enthusiasts not the mass market. Anyway thanks for all your comments and advice.
  5. New Focus turned me in to an L driver!

Thanks for all the help and comments. You are both quite right tazzman and GaryPL- I'm off to the dealer tomorrow and will report back!
  6. New Focus turned me in to an L driver!

Sorry should have included the engine spec - it's a 1.5 ecoboost 182bhp.
  7. Your thoughts would be appreciated. My 2017 Titanium X is great BUT when it comes to moving off from stationary it like I've been transported back to the 1970's and I'm learning to drive again - most of the time I cannot get it to move off without over revving it. My last 2 cars were Focus so I thought this was just a matter of getting used to a new car but we're now at 2,300 miles and things are either no better or getting worse. The car has the Driver's Pack - active city stop, assisted parking etc but turning all these off makes no difference. One thing I did find curious was that even on a gentle incline letting the clutch out with no pressure on the accelerator results in the car increasing the revs and happily moving forward at about 8 mph, but a trawl of the internet tells me that this is to prevent stalling and due to the numerous computers now involved in driving. Interestingly the problem goes away if I let the clutch out fully and then apply the revs. I also found that when they reviewed the 2014 Focus WhatCar said 'the clutch biting point on many models is a bit vague and can cause you to accidentally over-rev the engine when you pull away' So, I'm wondering what to do about this. Is it a) a fault, b) just me but, a little arrogantly, I'm inclined to dismiss this as the previous 2 cars were fine and I've passed the IAM advanced driving test - I know how to start off smoothly or c) the way things are - I assume that I'm experiencing what What Car did but wouldn't you expect me to have got used to it? I'm not routinely starting off by letting the clutch out and then applying the revs as I'm assuming that if I get used to this then when I change the car or get a hire car I'll be back stalling all over the place. But perhaps all modern cars are driven this way now? Anyone experienced this or got any thoughts? Thanks, Ian
  8. Sync 3 - Titanium 2016 update

I ordered a focus titanium x in August and was told by the dealer that at that time no new focuses were being built and that build of, I think, the 16.75 year model will start on the 16 Sept and will include Sync 3. I expect delivery in Nov.
  9. Focus 2013 Titanium Auto Lights

I think the lights sensor is one of the 'lumps' behind the rear view mirror. My auto lights seems to work OK but they do come on earlier than they used to on my 2008 Focus so I guess in this weather they may appear to be on all the time. I agree about the xenon lights. I had them on my previous focus and missed them. Rather than go for a retro fit (too expsensive and apparently not compatible with the Ford warranty) I had some Philips x-treme vision bulds fitted by my dealer and I think they are very good.
  10. Focus 2013 Titanium Auto Lights

It gets worse - you've reminded me about the warning for going over the sped limit - I have mine set to +5mph, tried it tonight 55-60 on a 50mph open road and got nothing. Does the sign flash or something, the manual doesn't seem to specify what happens? Thanks Ian
  11. Focus 2013 Titanium Auto Lights

Thanks, I'd be very grateful if you could let me know. My problem is that when I did my test drive the car had Sony sat nav and used sat nav data to show the speed limit of the road on the sat nav map, I though this would be very useful so I ordered the sat nav and also the Driver Assistance Pack which contains the Traffic Sign Recognition. Showing the speed limit on the sat nav map from sat nav data is a menu option, although I'm not clear why anybody wouldn't want it. As you say the traffic sign display is only a display but unknown to me, and apparently the dealer, when the Traffic Sign Recognition option is installed the option to show the road speed limit on the sat nav screen from sat nav data is removed by Ford. As you will have seen the Traffic Sign display is transient but from what I can see the sign is never displayed for more than 0.7 miles after it was recognized so in terms of speed limit information overall I'm left with less functionality than a cheap TomTom!
  12. Focus 2013 Titanium Auto Lights

I've checked mine in the dark and it all works as expected. I can hear a click as the main beam comes on, presumably a relay somewhere but that might help you track down what's happening. Also whilst we have a group of titanium owners together, anyone got the Traffic Sign Recognition? I'm having some strange experiences with mine - 60/70 mph signs are displayed for only 4 seconds and sometimes when I turn at a junction having just passed a 30 sign the displayed sign clears although it hasn't been on for the usual distance and I'm still in a 30 limit.
  13. Focus 2013 Titanium Auto Lights

Hi Elevonic I have a 2013 Focus Titanium with the auto headlamp dipping. I've just checked and with the auto dipping on and lights set to auto the main beam does flash. I try it again when its dark and report back! Ian
  14. Traffic Sign Recognition

Thanks for the information. Ford Customer Service Centre are going to ring me next week and if anything of interest comes out of that discussion I'll post it.
  15. Traffic Sign Recognition

Hi, I've recently taken delivery of a new Focus with Sony Sat Nav and the Driver Assist Pack (amongst others - I'm addicted to techo toys!). After discussions with Ford and with my dealer today it appears that because I have the Traffic Sign Recognition system I don't get the speed of the road I'm on displayed on the sat nav map, which is a bit disappointing as I think this is really useful. The Ford logic appears to be that I should use the Traffic Sign Recognition system but I'm finding the output from that a bit bizarre and I wondered if anyone could advise me whether the functionality I'm getting is usual or perhaps mine might be faulty. It has 'found' 90 mph speed limit signs in an urban area and told me there was a no overtaking sign on a 4 lane motorway but I accept that this is developing technology and these things will crop up! What has me vexed is the number of times it misses speed limit signs and when it has detected them the time they're displayed for. There seems to be no consistency in the display time sometimes they are on for several minutes and others gone in a couple of seconds - I thought I had it figured that once the car turned at a junction the display cleared but then next junction I went round it stayed on! Also sometimes it just seems to have shutdown and not be looking and then after missing several signs it suddenly comes to life and picks up the next one. I'm at a loss as to whether this erratic behavior is normal or indicates a problem - all information gratefully received. Many thanks Ian
